ODST Ops

I for one, am enjoying Spartan Ops, especially Episode V. However, I think the experience would be enriched if it were carried out by ODSTs.

First of all, we could carry on with characters like Buck and Dutch, not stale cookie-cutter characters like the Spartans we find in Halo 4. Sarah Miller is too much the stereotypical badass -Yoink!-, the nerd is the nerd, and the guy who’s always trying to get into Sarah Miller’s pants is another bland character too many.

Second, being an ODST would make the experience more real. I felt in ODST when my stamina was low that I was actually close to dying, and the lack of shields and a motion tracker made me feel more alone. It made me feel like I could be experiencing it because I wasn’t some superhuman soldier.

Third, I’d love to see what the Prometheans would feel like from an ODST’s point of view. Spartans are human tanks and should be expected to take down Knights, but ODSTs are so much smaller compared to them, it would be like seeing Prometheans in a new light.

Finally, with the ODSTs we don’t get the lowdown on all the ONI secrets like we do when we’re the Chief. Not knowing certain details in ODST brought a whole new depth to Halo that would be nice to revisit in Halo 4.

I really enjoyed ODST, but I know they can’t really do a second ODST game. I think ODST Ops would be a great way to step into the Rookie’s boots again.

Heck I figured with an open casting call for spartans in the new spartan 4 program it wouldn’t be unreasonable to see Buck and Co. appear as Fireteam Serenity or Firefly (too bad Castle team bit the dust).

And it’s Commander Sarah Palmer (AKA Femshep), Spartan Miller is your team’s communications operator aboard the Infinity.
