ODST in Halo 4

AUTHOR’S NOTE:
I am not one to -Yoink- about Halo 4 things, in fact, most of you know me as an avid Halo 4 supporter for many and all things…

…however, I think I finally found something that 343 did wrong by me, where i kinda draw the line.

On that same note, this will be some complaining but also some avid fan based facts and personal opinions. I merely wish to bring this to light to see discussion of it and see what people think. Please no bashing, trolling, and annoyances. Be mature, friendly, and courteous to those on the forum with you. We are all Halo Fans after all.
END NOTE.

So the reason I brought up this topic in general was due to this bad -Yoink- picture 343 showed off to the community.

This picture is fantastic, I love every bit of it.

however…there are two things…or people rather…that caught my eye very easily.

The two soldiers in the back, they are no doubt the new ODST’s. How do I know this?

Fact 1: They have blue visors. The ODST’s are iconical for using said blue visors.
Fact 2: Black armor. Of all the soldiers in the Halo Mythos, Lore, and Creation. ODST’s are the only soldiers to implement black armor (besides some Spartan squads)
Fact 3: The middle line on the top of the helmet. ODST’s have always had this middle line of color or just a design of sorts on the top of their helmet’s, no other helmet’s really did this.
Fact 4: ODST’s always had one design to their visor, and it always had this dividing line in the middle that followed the shape of the visor, and sure enough, these two have that same design implement.

So over all, these are the new ODST’s.

I must say, I personally love the helmet, the armor, etc. Now, if these were the new Spartan IV starting design, I’d be all over it. COMPLETELY even.

However…to call them ODST’s…I don’t…it puts a bad taste in my mouth…I always loved the Helmet of the ODST’s along with the perfect pauldron designed shoulder’s they had, and the chest? Fantastic, balanced, simple.

Fantastic. Perfect Special Operator Futuristic Design. And as I have said in the past, I am an avid supporter of 343 and their changes…but personally…this is just…I don’t know…it’s like they mixed ODST’s and Noble Six to create the helmet. And shoulder armor just aren’t those beautiful pauldrons anymore.

I mean, I could be wrong, these could be Spartan IV’s before War Games for all I know, but all my evidence leads me to believe these are ODST’s, and if they are…then I’m sorry 343, you lost me finally on something…Chief and everything else was turning out fantastic, but the ODST’s are one thing you shouldn’t have reimagined so heavily, I mean, I understand you wanna give your own artistic twist on things, and I have been supporting a lot of it. Almost everything I have seen till now has been superb…

…‘till now’.

ODST’s are fine the way they are, and if those background characters are ODST’s…please…change them back, or make them somewhat similar to the way they were. I’m fine with it if those are some new helmet designs and armor we will get later for Spartan IV’s. but if that’s the new ODST’s, then I am sadly let down in that aspect.

I still will get Halo 4 and play the hell out of it, and love every bit of it I’m sure. But that is one things I believe that you have done to offend and sadden me.

I’ve always loved the original ODST design. Just made want to scream “feet first into hell!” at the top of my voice. But these new 'ODST" (if they are) even though they are very cool, just aren’t ODST to me. I would love to see them on Spartan 4s but not ODSTs.

Although I love the new design, I completely agree with you on this. Why don’t they just put in as many helmets as they possibly can? I hope to God that they have the original ODST helmet in the game and a few others from Halo Reach and Halo 3. Maybe they’ll have armour expansion packs for 300 Microsoft Points or something like that?

That ODST armour and helmet should be the default one in Multiplayer instead of this crap; halo4nation.com

Those look more like Spartans and where the Mjolnir armour has advanced.

The ODST in Halo 4 should be an advanced/Modern version of the original Halo ODST.

Too bad 343 are absolutely terrible with armour looks and clothing.

Personally, I love the Spartan IV default armor…well, the armor anyways…the helmet is still half and half with me.

I love it for it’s ninja like look, but I hate it for aesthetics and over all design, but i agree that the helmet on these (possible) ODST’s should have been the default helmet for Spartan IV’s…the design is just fantastic and perfect for not only an advancement in MJOLNIR tech, but perfect for a new hud and over all look.

These are obviously Spartan-IV’s, maybe ex-ODSTs but certainly not regular Marine ODSTs.

Yep.

As long as hayabusa does not make a return, that’s fine with me :stuck_out_tongue:

The shoulders and legs give it away. It’s not an ODST.

those are spartan IVs, altho that might be the new odst helmet. (Speculation: 2 odsts from glasslands?) and spartan IVs are in campaign–just look at the pic with the elephant in it, and see who is in the warthog with chief.

I thought them Spartan IV’s personally, I did prefer the Halo 3 design of ODST’s more. If they are ODST’s then I guess it could be because of the fact that Infinity is a research vessel and so it’s an experimental design but I don’t like the sudden change in their design.

If I had to guess, I’d say they are ODSTs that have volunteered to be Spartan IVs. So they kept the style of their original ODST helmets, but the rest is the new MJOLNIR armor.

Agreed mate. ODST is, has and always will be my armor. I’ve loved the odsts since halo 2 (even though they had bad helmets back then) and used to try to keep them alive on delta halo on legendary.

The helmet worries me. Even the armor. Now, I’m sure you are aware that the best soldeirs in the UNSC have been turned into spartan IV yes? So this will be the ODST that transferred over.

But if this is the ODST helmet, I’m almost ashamed. The ODST helmet was almost Iconic for the halo games. It was perfect in everyway, and smooth as well. This one is clearly a spartan upgraded one, but If i don’t have the option for a normal one as well, and if there are no normal ones in the game at all…

Well I honestly feel robbed. Especially with the lack of elites, to take out the only helmet I really, really liked is just a big -Yoink- you in my direction…

Don’t get me wrong, it works great with the armor of Spartan Ivs, but ODST has always been the armor I rocked, and to not have the one I know and love is pretty sad really on my part.

This armor looks a lot better than its spartan IV iteration.

I really want this back in multiplayer. And even if I don’t, I’l still rock the new stuff, just very, very half heartedly.

EDIT: THe helmest for the new ODSTs looks a lot like the halo 2 odst helmet.

Could be Ex-ODST Spartan IV’s? The IV’s are after all, the elite, as are the ODST’s. I’m sure most of the candidates to enter the Spartan IV program were ODST’s as they are the best of the best, aside from spartans of course.

Well, I can understand if these are spartan IV’s and all, and 343 never truly said if they were or were not. But what I don’t understand is, if they are spartan IV’s, why don’t they rock the default armor of the multi-player Spartan IV’s.

I am pretty sure there spartans, but who knows right?

I don’t see how those could possibly NOT be Spartans.

Their armor is clearly Spartan armor, and we all know there are ODST Spartan helmet variants. The only iffy factor is the blue visor, since Spartan visors are general gold. However, we also know from Halo: Reach customization that Spartan’s can have blue visors. Also, their armor doesn’t appear to be black at all. It seems to be a default steel coloration.

My conclusion? These are Spartan IV’s touting a new, redesigned ODST-style helmet. Why they’d be in Campaign, I don’t know, but their is no doubt to me that these are Spartans.

The default Halo 4 spartan armor is the Rogue Armor set, same Rogue Armor from Halo 3 just a more armored and ninja appearance and it works perfectly. Some ODSTs in glasslands are said to wear more Recon styled armor similiar to Dare in Halo: ODST. I believe there will also be ODST’s in Halo 4 using the same style of armor we see them wearing in Halo Reach and previous Halos so I wouldnt worry to much, perhaps 343 would be kind enough to release a few more photos before long of Marines and ODSTs.

The way I look at it?

It’s…how many years into the future? 4? 5?

and about 2 or 3 past glasslands?

Furthermore, even in glasslands, Spartan’s were said to have light armor, like we see in multiplayer, further, who’s to say that the ODST’s didn’t get a lighter variant of the mark V or VI spartan MJOLNIR armor for their own uses? they are apart of the same military. why are both spartans sporting blue visors and black armor? why not more personalization between them? I don’t know

…but speculations and observations aside, I feel like these are truly ODST’s, too many underlying factors to suggest that they arent.

Im willing to bet those arent odst’s, at least not in their current form. maybe they were before but they seem like spartans now. and i guess im the only one who actually likes the new spartan IV look, helmet and all. really fits with the virtual reality war similation story theyve spun up to explain the red vs blue
