ODST ESRB Rating

I’m not entirely sure why Halo 3: ODST received an M Rating. I suppose it could be because of the combination of blood smears and some harsher profanity (ESRB says at least one use of BS) at some point, but it almost seems like it should have gotten a T Rating. Thoughts?

I am confused to why it is 18 rated I think should be teen rated. but maybe because it included halo 3 multiplayer disc so it is 18 rated

I never really understood it either. Most of the Covenant blood looks like Kool-Aid anyway lol.

I’ve never played odst but maybe its rated M because maybe the graphics are remastered.

Its rated M because it contains Blood Language and Violence. The ESRB would slap on a 17+ rating on anything that involves a bad word or using firearms it seems

That is a good question, but it will never be. ^^

I think the Engineers may have played a part in the rating. The Brutes strap explosives to them and then blackmail them into working for the Covenant. The player is then asked to handle the moral quandary of killing the defenseless Engineers to disable the enemies’ overshields, or rolling the dice to try to save the engineers. That’s how I perceived the encounters, at least.

Also, the fact that ODST included all of H3’s multiplayer probably influenced the decision as well. While the M rating may not make a ton of sense for ODST, I think it does make sense to match H3’s rating since they’re the same PVP.

Not really sure either, although I don’t think I care anyways. On my copy it says rated M for blood, language, and violence.

^This. Literally Reach’s rating is M for “Blood and violence”, as if the ESRB couldn’t be less descriptive and vague because Halo Wars has both of those things and the game is still rated T. Additionally, this means that much more violent games such as Gears of War have the same rating as ODST and Reach. PEGI’s ratings are better as they have a 16 and 18 year-old rating.

TL;DR, ESRB is a waste of time for consumers of all sorts.

Exactly, I had to double check my copy since I don’t remember ODST having much M rated content but I guess a “damn” and an smg are enough

That’s great, but why comment if you don’t know and don’t care?

I meant I don’t really care what rating it is or could be. It wasn’t supposed to be a I dont care about this topic. I don’t know why and neither did you or else you wouldn’t have made this topic. I gave my guess though, sorry I couldn’t give you the exact reason.
