I’m not really sure where to post new game ideas, but since we technically don’t know for sure what Halo Xbox One will be (although all signs point to Halo 5), this seems as good a place as any. Anyway, I think another ODST spinoff could this time be a third-person tactical shooter. I know the idea of Halo in third-person sounds a little far-fetched, but think about it. What else could it be? The ODSTs aren’t Spartans. They lack MJOLNIR armor, and thus, energy shielding and enhanced physical attributes. Theyre just regular humans. So the use of cover would be essential for them, and I think we can all agree that cover usage works best from a third-person viewpoint.
I’d imagine the player character would have a team (perhaps Buck’s squad can return), so the squad commands that many want to see could be a gameplay element. Maybe you can customize your team’s weapons so they can specialize in different roles. I also don’t see why it can’t be a true sandbox game, with open areas, alternate pathways, optional/secondary objectives, and the like. Adds replay value. And of course, like Halo 3: ODST, there would be a Firefight mode. As for the multiplayer side of things, I don’t know what engine 343 would use; it’s all up to them.
I know this idea may seem radical to some, and I’d agree if this were a main installment. But seeing as how this would be a spinoff, I don’t see the harm in trying something new. It would solve the problem of how to differentiate the ODSTs from the Spartans. Thoughts?
Although I do agree they should make another Halo ODST 2
“2” or spinoff title like they did with Halo 3 ODST, I don’t think it should be a third person shooter. Although I like the idea of at least 1 halo title in the future should become a third person shooter, not a Halo ODST game though. Halo has always been known as a FPS with the exception of Halo Wars, so lets keep it that way for now. I am fine with that happening in the future, but not now, and not a ODST title. It would be cool if you were playing as a marine though, and they could (I guess) introduce an ADS mechanic, since Marines don’t have smart link tech as far as I know, but it would be like the ADS from gears or something like that, where you just see your character doing it, and its not in the first person.
But I would rather have them make a Halo ODST 2, with a longer campaign, firefight like it was in H3 ODST rather than Reach (reach’s version was garbage) and most importantly, ODST multiplayer with suppressed SMG and pistol spawns, and you drop into the match from your drop pods at the start of each match. That my friend would be awesome.
I would rather them make a Halo Wars 2 as well before they make a Halo Third Person Shooter IMHO, but its a great idea though.
@Avenged FADE
I wouldn’t mind it being first-person; I just feel that the ODSTs should play much differently than the Spartans. They are just regular humans, after all.

But they do though, there system is completely different. Have you ever played H3 ODST? ODST’s still have smart link and a lot of technologies that the Spartans have, they just can’t take as many hits, because they don’t have shields.

I just don’t think simply taking away the shield bar is enough. But that’s just my opinion, and like I said, I wouldn’t mind it being first-person.
While I’m not a huge fan of third person shooters in general, I wouldn’t be opposed to a third person Halo spin-off being made.
I certainly wouldn’t be ok with a main title being third person, but the expectations for spin-off games are not nearly as strict; there is more room for exploring new possibilities that way and I’m more than happy for them to do this in the future.
I will say, I still want there to be new FPS Halo spin-off games!
Out of curiosity, what do we all think about future spin-offs where we get to play as a Marine?
I personally think it would be interesting to see the Halo world through the eyes of someone much less significant than a Spartan.
Imagine how much bigger and scarier the enemies might look in comparison.
Of course, I don’t think they would make a game like that, but I would be interested if they did.

I think a marine and ODST would play pretty much the same.
Yeah, I’m kind of trying to say what Jazzi is saying. I am not opposed to it being made, I just don’t think a main title, or another ODST game or sequel should be in the third person. I am also trying to say it should be done in the future, like a ways from now, once they are done with Halo 6, and have made an ODST 2 and Halo Wars 2. Right now, they should be focused on doing those things, rather than a Halo Third Person Shooter, since Halo is KNOWN as an FPS. It just takes a while you know, it would be like if gears were to become a FPS, it would take time. Also, if they were to do it, it would have to be completely “fresh” with new characters, new plot etc, which is why I imposed doing it based off of Marines instead of ODST’s, then they could do whatever they want with the game, while still working within the boundaries of what makes Halo, Halo.
I like the idea of playing as a Marine in a spin-off.
However, I would still prefer first-person.
If they were to make a game in which one plays as a marine, I’d imagine immersion to be a big factor in the game.
Seeing just how scary Elites and Hunters can be.
And how squad cooperation is extremely important.

Marines don’t have armor, smartlink tech, a HUD, advanced gear, the list goes on…

Marines do wear armor. They’re soldiers, duh. They do have smart links as well, haven’t you noticed the little eye piece some of them wear, or even the full helmets have them. It’s standard issue. As for advanced gear, the only thing ODSTs have that differentiates them is VISR mode, which could easily be implemented into the Marines’ helmets.

Smartlink only works if the user has a HUD, and Marines as far as we know, do not have HUD’s. SOME Marines do have that eyepiece, in certain games, but that being a HUD is all speculation. And also, ODST armor is a lot more “durable” than marine armor.

Have you seen Forward Unto Dawn? Marine helmets have HUDs.

You make a great point there, but I think that was added for entertainment and nostalgia reasons, not canon. But I have to give you that. Still, I think ODST’s and Marines would play extremely different, other wise, there would be no point to having ODST’s. Also,if they were to make the next ODST game a Third Person Shooter, it would most likely piss a lot of the ODST fan base off, since the first one was an FPS, so it just wouldn’t make sense.
Honestly, I have always wanted a Halo RPG to come sometime in the future, and it would make sense if they have it where you can switch from first-to third person, and then it wouldn’t make anyone mad, and is more of a preference thing. They get Bethesda to help make it, and it would be the start of Halo becoming King again.

It would have to be canon, otherwise the fanbase would be pissed off. But about the first-person thing, you’re probably right. But if a new squad is introduced then I don’t think it would really matter.
Honestly , I just want the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers to be shown more love in general . So , I have to agree , this would be great .
Why not Rainbow Six vegas Style? First person shooter but once you jump into a cover system it becomes a third person?
> Why not Rainbow Six vegas Style? First person shooter but once you jump into a cover system it becomes a third person?
I’ve never played Rainbow Six, so I don’t know how well that system worked, but it seems like it would be confusing or annoying. I could be wrong though.
I’d imagine the play style to work like grand theft auto v, very fluid looking and taking cover would be easier. I think taking cover should be more Important in an odst game to make it feel like your not invincible like a spartan.
Also being able to make your surroundings work for you would be awesome. Like shooting at a sign to make it fall onto an enemy
