Occupy Halo 3?

I have a feeling that I may receive a crap-load of backlash for this. But, I’m going to drop my thoughts anyway.

Halo 4 is a cool game. 343 took Halo to an entirely new place, and I see nothing TOTALLY wrong with this because they did it in a new way; and ultimately, it’s their call on what gets created. However, with the incoming of the new, there’s some old elements that got literally crushed into oblivion that could have sent the game to an incredibly high level. I also feel that since we’re the ones consuming / purchasing their product, we should have a SAY in the game. The in-game ranking system is totally destroyed, they’ve removed the classic X on the radar, etc. The community has fallen apart in such an awful way as a result of this all, too (from what I’ve come to notice.)

There’s so much that has degraded the fun of Halo, the value of Halo, the competitiveness of Halo. Halo 4 isn’t that bad, but it really lacks that core; to the point that it’s heartbreaking to me as a dedicated player of the game. I know I’m not the first to post something of this fashion, and I won’t be the last, but it’s really sad to see where it has all went. And I really want 343 to see what guys like myself have to say about this. From Reach up to H4, these games seem like nothing but fillers for cash. But, even with that, with some simple changes / additions to the Matchmaking experience, we could build something so amazing off of what we have.

Until then, it’d be awesome to see people rebuild the Halo 3 Community up again. Like I said, I may receive nothing but hate for this, but it’s a desire of mine. Me and my friends get way more of a thrill when we play Halo 3 even to this day. I don’t know if anyone else feels this way, but I hope so. Would be amazing to see people take a step BACK from wherever 343 is trying to take this game, and let them physically see that “progression” isn’t always a good thing, and doesn’t necessarily mean to remove all classic elements.

The Halo 3 community is still going strong, heck when reach launched Halo 2 was still going strong. I for one am going back to Halo 3 once I am done cheevo huntting in 4.

That’s so sick, bro, haha. I agree. H3 is still holding up nicely I think. However, with a little more effort from the small community we have, we could revive it some more. I have faith in it.

I’ve already been there for weeks.

I was playing Halo 3 earlier on. I lost one game. :I
It’s not the same, but if you think people are going to go back to it you’re sadly mistaken.

That’s the mentality of humans, if it’s new, it’s instantly better because it’s slightly shinier.

If I could find a game quickly, then yes I would.

Which is very sad, man. Ugh. I do have faith that we can make do with what we have on H3, though. Get a decent amount of people back…

How strong are we talking? I’ve still got my copy but havent picked it up in a few years (for shame). I wouldn’t mind kicking back on social till i re-adjust but i’d wager 99% of the remaining community plays ranked?

I’d say there’s about 6,000 people per day. Possibly more, though, on the weekends. I’m going to check right now.

I’ll agree with you that. You very positive in what you say  343 has moved away from the original concepts of Halo, and in my opinion, they are moving in the wrong direction.

And you’re right, the community is broken. It pains me to see people leaving the franchise entirely. But going back to Halo3 out of resistance wont fix it though. We have to keep talking and showing that we are actively looking for ways 343 has tried to improve Halo 4. If no one’s going to stick around to let them fix the problems, why would they bother.

It’s like someone asking you for icecream and bringing them yogurt because that’s all you had to offer. If you go through the trouble to go to the store, find their favorite flavor (or something close), and bring it back to give it to them, wouldn’t you be upset if that guy left? Why would you ever want to listen to that guy again if he can’t wait or support you long enough for you to give him what he wants?
(very odd analogy)

I want to go back to Halo 3 and Reach too, and I go back to play them, but we need to check up on Halo 4 every once and a while. We need to show 343 we aren’t leaving, just going back to enjoy some good old times  Don’t forget about the people that enjoy Halo 4 also. We shouldn’t be split and at war with each other, just like you said, OP. We are the Halo community, not just the Halo 3 or 4 or CE or 2 or Reach or Wars community.
Let’s just see what Halo 5 brings.

Didn’t this already happen on the release of the new DLC for Halo 4 ?

considering the pop went Up a bit from the slump it had I guess it wasn’t that effective. I support you guys but I dont Have Halo 3 and while I agree Halo 3 is way better than 4 I still enjoy playing 4 and recently have been having a very Halo like experience in the new DLC and multiteam playlist. It has its issues but if your like me and find your Niche play-style in games that have loadouts it becomes pretty fun. Hell Ive even run into entire teams with people with mics, ENTIRE TEAMS!! thanks low population :D. Again I support you guys I would love to hop on and join you and play a classic like 3 but my funds are low and I’m saving up my gift cards for State of Decay coming out in June. Anyway Have fun

Let me be clear, I want to play Halo 4. However, they have really done so little to the core gameplay to remedy issues that I just cant play more than a game before I get sick of all the garbage.

  • Everyone having AA’s and Powerweapons
  • Huge Magnetism and Auto-aim
  • Map design and sprint sigh

However to me, all this can be fixed and worked on. That said, there is one thing that keeps me from playing H4, that they have already stated they will not change.

  • Flinch instead of De-scope

Mid range combat is a HUGE part of Halo. Flinch is just a horrible mechanic and I’ve seen the difference in impact since returning to H3. Unless they intend to replace flinch with descope to remove the horrendous issues flinch causes in mid-long range combat, im not coming back, and will be staying at halo 3.

Oh, and I’m not buying Halo 5 unless I see gameplay that is SOLIDLY GOOD and theres a BETA. Period.

There are plenty of threads about this already. Use one of those.
