For anybody that doesn’t play Halo to get a 50 doesn’t know anything I guess. According to some of these so called “competitive” players I don’t know what makes halo fun. I didn’t realize enjoying a game was about getting a number put next to your name and that it was all about bragging about how good I was…
Guess us “casuals” who like campaign and just playing MM to win shouldn’t like the new AA’s and guns and let the “competitives” have the Halo 3.5. Oops
Different people have different opinions, what one finds fun isn’t the same as someone else.
@OP Deep breaths…
It’s more than a number. I never had a high rank, but that number gave me incentive to get better and that’s my own personal way of having fun in Halo. It’s not for everyone, I understand that.
Don’t take it personally bro. Let the loud-mouths be loud-mouths.
Don’t make it complicated. All the competitive players want is for H4 to have a working highskill ranking system.

Exactly my point. The " competitives" I’m talking about are the ones with the center of the universe mentallity. I don’t care if you like the silly number next to your name it’s cool but when you have boosters and derankers it’s an issue the AA’s not everyone likes I get that but I hate the well I don’t like them so your dumb for liking them mentallity. 343 can’t cater to everyone and it’s obvious Halo is changing. Just a little bit of compromise from either side would be nice.
What has humanity come to…

It’s not about what is fun in halo, it’s about what is more balanced, even, and unexploitable certain additions add to high level competitive play. This means nothing to someone like you as this isn’t the reason you play halo, it’s not what you enjoy. However many people do enjoy this and it’s what is fun to them in halo, and thus they realize or feel that some of these additions may compromise what’s fun to them. Who are you, or anyone else, to say what is fun for everyone? Once things are revealed that appeal to players like myself who enjoy competitive halo, I’m sure the greifing will be much less on these forums.
I think they’re trying to say that you don’t fully understand the deeper mechanics of the game until you have sufficient competitive playtime. You might have fun, you might know or why you have fun, but they’re trying to suggest that you should not enter a discussion of balance and mechanics unless you have examined them as deeply as competitive players do. I don’t agree with that “need a 50” crap, but I understand why a lot of them get upset when they have to explain why some things may not work to players who run in without a fundamental knowledge of the game and blurt ideas without serious consideration or understanding of how they would impact the higher levels of play. I think people who make this argument overreact a lot, and that this isn’t justification to shut up anyone, but their basic idea makes sense.
As gets tossed around in Starcraft discussions a lot, the game should be balanced around the highest level of play. Hence, the highest level players (who generally understand how the game works better) should have the biggest say in the community on balance discussion. That isn’t to say other people don’t understand the game, or that only they should talk. More so, this is saying that a player with 100 games played and a Bronze arena rating shouldn’t complain about something being overpowered, or jetpack being completely fine, or otherwise demanding balance changes without research. Someone with 3k+ games in Super Slayer/MLG/Arena/Doubles, a decent, positive W/L and ability to play well in a team is probably much more qualified to be in that discussion. Stats don’t prove everything, but odds are player two is much more familiar with the mechanics and flow than player one, or people like player one.
They don’t yet have the experience or deeper understanding of the game to justly complain or dismiss complaints about things affecting the balance of the game, which, as stated before, should revolve around the higher levels. Unless that player has an amazing learning ability and desire to improve, they probably aren’t playing high enough skilled opponents to see the game being played at the top, and understand why players are doing what they’re doing. Hence, they should not pretend they know everything about the game’s balance and mechanics.
I see this a lot with jetpack and sprint. ‘Competitives’ get annoyed because they have to explain why things won’t work to people who aren’t at the point where they see what the competitive player is talking about in game (jetpack abuse is a good example), and such they ignore it. That annoys them. Then, sometimes, they overreact and make posts like the ones you’re talking about.
Competitive are talking about discussions of balance, which, ultimately, affects how fair, and for some fun, the game will end up being. It’s their definition of fun, and even in others, it determines the replay value and longevity of the game (look at Brood War, after they got things fixed). To them, the game won’t be fun. They shouldn’t tell you that you won’t have fun because of jetpack, but you shouldn’t tell them that jetpack won’t ruin their fun in Halo. As an example. Dismantle above me summed this last part up better.
Yeah, this is a wall of text. Sorry.
