Objectivity lacking in many posts: Git gud?

Tl;dr - basically stop making repetitive and subjective posts, stop raging, and be social: add people, play with them and no longer suffer the randies you so hate.

This is just a suggestion to people critiquing or even defending Halo 5. The more I follow posts the more I see a lack of objectivity regarding issues or praises for Halo 5. What this is creating is a repetition of threads revolving around common subjective complaints, such as the following:

  • “I lag too much” Learn to check the connection speed on your part. It’s not the servers many of the time. Often the weather throws your local connection out of whack.

*“The maps suck. [Especially Overgrowth].” Most of these people, I would bet money, have not studied the maps for strategy, positioning of power positions, weapons and powerups, and jumps. If you can’t explain how a map works and where the weapons jumps and powerups are, then you don’t know the map very well. Take some time out in customs or forge, watch/read tips and tricks, learn the callouts and relax. You’re gameplay will improve immensely.

  • “I keep getting killed by X weapon or X mechanic” Stop complaining that you keep getting killed by them, use situational awareness to counter them. If that fails, ask objectively what others think, instead of raging.

  • “The teams are uneven” or “My team keeps getting swept, it’s getting frustrating.” Play with a team. Start adding people and stop playing with a team of random, uncoordinated people, and you will see a difference. Trust me.

  • “I used to be good at Halos 1-3 and now I can’t play this one well.” Maybe it’s because this is a different Halo with different mechanics, and every player has to get used to them. Aiming? Practice it. Sprint? Practice it. Thrusters and everything else? Practice it. Not just using them, but countering them as well.

  • “Warthog Sucks.” The Warthog is a very efficient tool if used in the right situations. It should primarily be used to support spartans, rather than trying to rush into a mass of troops where the enemy has much more cover, escape routes, and sightlines than a single hog gunner. In addition, a good driver and gunner or a must. An inexperienced gunner or driver will lead to a short hog life.

  • “Vehicles are too exposed and too easy to board.” Firstly, you should never ever ever ever use a ground vehicle without at least one person watching your back. That’s your fault. Remember, one person vs the whole other team trying to destroy your vehicle doesn’t end well.

  • “I keep dying too fast with my hard earned reqs” Spawn at your home base, first of all, if it’s a big concern. Sometimes spawns suck if your armory is under siege. Second, the speed at which you die is largely determined by the coordination of your team. If you’re playing with uncoordinated randoms, play like the whole enemy team is out to get you and act accordingly. I.e. don’t get too disappointed when you die.

“Halo 5 is too different than the others” Welcome to the modern era of shooters. On your left you will find speed and on your right you will find mobility mechanics. Enjoy your stay, as shooters have evolved.

Consider this before making statements, either as an OP or a commenter. Are there already posts pertaining to the issue? Are you approaching something in the most objective manner (i.e. is this more about you dying than the actual game?). Could you make your statement in a less contentious manner? I’d really like to cruise the forums and see more discussion and less raging and flaming.

So basically you’re saying we should defend mediocrity in our favorite AAA game?

You posted way too fast to have read it all. And no, I’m saying we can objectively defend or critique our favorite AAA game, if you must have a Tl;dr summary.

I did read it, my comment was directed towards this part + your mention of Spartan abilities… My bad for not clarifying.

I will freely admit to being a crappy Warthog player. I always wince when I hear that horn but I get in the driver or gunner’s seat cause I know I need the practice. The relative lack of vehicle based Arena modes does make it harder to find those chances to practice though. I feel like I spend a lot less time in Warthogs than I used to

Says the guy who didnt read a word of the post…

First, these are largely subjective issues.

Second, this thread just comes off as you trying to shove your opinion down everyone else’s throat as if your beliefs are somehow objective.

So…how in any way is your post objective? Feels like you just failed your own advice. I’ve seen many of these posts as well.

OP spot on with ur post

Im taking already largely subjective posts from other people and offering advice for these often rehashed topics. My advice may be more subjective at parts. However, as the rest of the post implies, I ask for more obectivity in opposition to the examples I display.

I feel like your post is basically saying “if you dont like something it can’t possibly be the game it must be you”

Ive come to accept that some people will just see it that way.

He has point if i told you to pick a map you hated out of any Halo and said “well the map is good you just dont know how to play on it” if the map is awful are you going to still defend it? overgrowth is a bad map it isnt just a matter of “because i dont know how to play it”

well when you say something along the lines of “overgrowth isnt a bad map you just need to learn how to play it” when im sure there is a map you dont like that i could say the same thing knowing how to use something or not doesnt determine weather that map, weapon vehicle or whatever is bad/good because of course people like something when they are good on or good with it. Like the boltshot in Halo 4 im sure we can both agree that the idea of a pocket shotgun is not good. Yet people that use the boltshot and get kills with it will say things along the lines of “get good its a balanced weapon” or what have you.

I agree with everything you said. Except Overgrowth. I have studied the map and it designed for camping. The way to win is grab camo and shotty. So even when I win I hate myself. It is the ultimate noob map!

Well, map preference is a highly subjective topic as well. While I didnt say Overgrowth was a great map, my response to that topic (reread it) is solely about learning the map. That response is geared toward the people who make non objective posts that 9/10 revolve around raging about getting shanked or shottied, rather than breaking down the map’sflaws.

You’re not supposed to tell the scrubs how to git gud.

While we dont necessarily HAVE to have an evolved Halo, I am more concerned with the constant raging about how its changed. Its been happening since Reach, and I just dont understand why people wont give up the battle. Its not going classic again.

If it keeps those scrubs from scrubbin on MY team then I gladly will LOL

Yeah, I suppose this is true. Narrows from Halo 3 is a horrible, horrible map. It has nothing to do with playing it well.
