I just want to play objective games with my friends with varying skills. Why is there no such playlist and a ton of slayer playlists? HCS only matches me and my friends against pro players.

I feel the same, I miss arena though it was almost the same as HCS I used it to warm up for HCS and play less intense matches. Also, I find myself tired of slayer in this game.
There is an objective playlist called Core Play, but it’s a rotational playlist. The issue is objective playlists historically don’t do well as permanent playlists so keeping it as rotational will keep the interest up.

Honestly at that point your best bet is to play customs. Since obj playlists do so badly in terms of population they aren’t worth keeping around permanently besides HCS.
