Number of Human Colonies

I’ve been looking around and I can’t seem to find an exact number of human colonies, I’m looking for numbers pre and post war, preferably with names as well. Does anyone know the exact figures?

800 colonies before the war. 290 Inner Colonies, 690 Outer Colonies. Bungee confirmed the number back between Halo 2 and 3.

Post-war: Unknown, but fan theories have put it at somewhere around 70+, most of then Outer Colonies (of which a not-insignificant amount have outright seceded from the UNSC as a whole, forming the NCA).

Post-2558: Zero. They’re no longer human colonial assets, they’re Created protectorates.

Sigh. Guess we’ll see how it goes!

Ok thanks, everywhere I read I kept finding different figures, like contact harvest saying there was only 17 and another book giving much larger figures.

That’s closer to a thousand colonies, not 800. Well it’s good to know that Bungie barely gave a damn when it comes to numbers, assuming those are the numbers they gave for the Inner and Outer Colonies. fumes over the utter crap that is the weapons stats, especially for the Spiker and Needler

Actually Bungie never gave a canon number of colonies and they’ve even gone on record (it was an interview/Q&A with Joe Staten) stating that the source (IIRC, I think it was a very loosely affiliated promotional site for either CE or Halo 2) stating it was 800+ did not come from the and was not something they had authorized. The only time Bungie themselves even came close to actually mentioning the number of human colonies was in Contact Harvest, and even then it didn’t really give the current number that existed at the time, just that Harvest had been the 17th colony founded.

Can you give the source for that please? Because the only time I’ve ever seen anything from Bungie concerning the topic was an interview/Q&A from Staten where he said that the 800+ colonies number hadn’t come from Bungie and was never something they’d signed off on or authorized and that as such it wasn’t canon.

Whether or not Bungie did state that the UNSC had 800 colonies or not, in Halo: Fleet Battles 343 has confirmed that the UNSC possesses around 800 colonies. See the Core Rule Book for Halo: Fleet Battles.

Really?

> page 4
> DOMUS DIASPORA
> In the year 2291, mankind was unleashed upon the stars with the discovery of slipspace and its use for faster-than-light travel. An overcrowded Earth and its burgeoning colonies quickly seized on the promise of exploration and colonization to break free of our solar system and find a new destiny.
>
> By 2310 the first wave of pioneers traversed the vast gulf of space to find myriad new worlds to explore, inhabit, and exploit, taking humanity’s dreams and grievances with them. As colony ships were built in ever-increasing numbers the trickle of colonists became a mass exodus from the Sol system - historically known as the Domus Diaspora.
>
> Colonies bloomed on verdant worlds and above resource-rich moons. Habitable planets that could be quickly reached through slipspace became home to sprawling cities and orbital factories tied together through trade and the influence of massive star-spanning corporations.
>
> Early terraforming successes and improvements in slipspace navigation spurred exploration and colonization further and further from the light of Sol. Within two hundred years billions of people were living, breathing, working, and dying under alien suns. For a time, all of mankind’s energy was expended in this frenzy of expansion.
>
> Those colonies on the nearby worlds prospered, drawing in investment and building infrastructure extensive enough to become self-sufficient and send their surpluses back to Earth; these core worlds became known as the Inner Colonies. Meanwhile smaller, lonely outposts of the greater human civilization spread ever outward along slipspace routes from this developed and tightly controlled zone to become the Outer Colonies. And, beyond that, the great unknown of the Orion Arm.

No hard figures on the number of UEG/CAA colonial assets.

They did in their official timeline they released. Said timeline appeared in Halo Wars and is on the site as well.

So four sources for the colony figures.

Of course there is also Contact Harvest which gives them only 17 colonies IIRC.

Not right. It’s confirmed in multiple sources there were 800 colonies, so there can’t be 290 inner colonies AND 690 outer colonies. 290+690= 980

The Contact Harvest figure was a writer oversight. There has been confirmed to be at least 800 pre Covenant War. As of 2553, there are a couple of dozen, if even that.
