npc's

What makes npc’s so difficult to put in video games (overall). I would like know this because I too am unsure.

AI stands for Artificial Intelligence. As in, they’re fake. As in, they can’t do what humans can do. Since they can’t do what a human can do, without it being scripted, it sometimes becomes unpredictable as to what they will do.

Because you have to make a bunch of code to make them anywhere near realistic enough to be considered good, and adaptive enough to mimic what a real-life person would do in a certain situation. For example, think way back when, like Half-Life, for example, the NPC’s were a lot more scripted, making them seem less lifelike than modern day shooters, like Call of Duty, who’s AI has been coded to make them have somewhat functioning intelligence.

If you want me to explain further, I can, but I decided to summarize it.
