So far, we know that Locke’s team consists of:
- Locke (go figure)
- Tanaka
I (and pretty much everyone else) think that the Spartan in the ODST helmet is definitely Buck (or, if 343 feels like being stupid, then Romeo).
The only one we have left is the red, female-looking Spartan. The prevailing theory is that it’s Macer. Does anyone have any good proof (or even convincing speculation) that it is indeed Macer? Or, better yet, does anyone have any reasonable theories about it being someone else?
What are your thoughts?
There are a couple of threads already on this very topic.
Some speculate Buck because of the same chest piece he uses in ODST.
none other spartan except ex odst would choose the odst mjolnir gen 2 armour imo so its an odst for sure, but there is a chance its thorne considering the whole spartan ops he was main focus.
The ODST helmet is more than likely Buck, and the red armor can only be either Chips Dubbo or Sergeant Johnson’s backup clone.
I think people associate the red Spartan with Macer because they look female and because she battled alongside Locke and demonstrated herself as a soldier in Halo: Nightfall.

And Randal did die so they both could live.
Honestly I don’t see how the red spartan could be anyone else but Macer or another new character. Its weapon choice suggests close combat, Rome’s a sniper though, and its a massive color departure for Palmer.

I don’t think Palmer would go with Locke to hunt down the Master Chief.
Honestly, I see Palmer, Lasky, Thorne, and Infinity as a huge wildcard. We don’t know what they’ll do, because we know that Lasky has huge respect for the Chief, and Palmer respects Lasky. And Throne’s assigned to Infinity last I checked.
I mostly just tossed Palmer in since she’s a female character who’s a soldier of the UNSC. There’s really not a lot of viable options that’ fit a red armored close combat character who’s still alive. I mostly factored in Palmer because her dual-pistol preference is generally tight in range.
Mancer works the best because we’ve never seen her really fight. Though its kind of surprising Locke’s team doesn’t contain more veterans.
I mean, the main gap in the S-II vs S-IV threads is experience, and provided Buck’s there, it seems like half the team is relatively ‘new’.
Is it possible Veronica Dare’s got new armour? I mean, her Recon helmet did get pretty much trashed in ODST.
Though deep down I’m still hoping it’s Romeo.

Anything is possible but I personally highly doubt it. I really want to see her in HD though she was one of my favorite characters in ODST. Love strong female leaders.
In my opinion the fact that Tanaka is getting this much exposure with her confirmed 3 appearances with her two origin issues and now Issue 21 one thing is very obvious to me. If Locke’s other team members were characters we aren’t familiar with they would have their own issues or appear in one of the upcoming novels ( so we’ll have to wait on that). So if my skills of deduction are as good as I believe them to be the other members have to be characters we are familiar with I believe they are Buck and Macer but that’s just me.

That’s a good point I hadn’t considered. I just really hope that 343 can tie all this up in a believable package, because the thought of sending 4 new Spartan IVs, allegedly 2 of which didn’t really see much combat in their previous military roles, after the most famous Spartan in history seems very foolish.
I didn’t see nightfall… Could someone tell me who Tanaka is and where 343 confirmed he was part of the squad?

Holly Tanaka was a character introduced in issue 17 of Escalation as the main character of a two-issue story arc telling her origin. At the end of the arc, it shows Tanaka standing in front of a window, her reflection replaced with the blue Spartan from Locke’s team while narration boxes shows a message from her CO to Jun, recommending her to the Spartans. Also, she wasn’t in Nightfall.
Talitha Macer was in Nightfall, however, and is the only other person besides Locke to survive the mission to the Alpha Shard. She is speculated to be the Spartan in red.
How upset would you be if the Spartan in the armor with the ODST like armor isn’t Buck (very unlikely though)?
My guess would be Buck and Macer (from NightFall).

Very, lol. But after New Blood, I’m sure it’s Buck.
