Now that the honeymoon phase is over.

What are yalls thoughts to Halo 5’s multiplayer?

Personally, I’m enjoying it, but now that I have my fair share of matches under my belt I feel like their are some major things that need to happen.

i don’t expect a lot of people will agree with me, bc let’s face it this is a casual Halo forum, but if you don’t agree that’s fine.

  1. ARs have to be nerfed. It amazes me honestly that 343 tries so hard to make this game competitive, yet they allow a low skill weapon to dominate in close and medium ranges. With this set up we have watched Halo become a game that isn’t about gun skill, but who has the right weapon for the right situation. I see people trading out pistols for the plasma rifle, smg, all bc of how they dominate in CQC. The assault rifle in particular needs a huge range nerf.

  2. The pistol needs a buff, or we need BR starts. The pistol is suppose to be this games utility weapon. However it constantly gets outgunned by ARs in close range. Doesn’t do enough damage to a BR in medium range. I mean this is the worst utility weapon we have ever had in a Halo game. Utlitly weapons are suppose to make the game even by allowing a person to compete with people off spawn. Run into a AR guy CQC- dead. Get in a fight with someone with a BR- Dead. Smg close range- mowed down faster than you can shoot them 3 times. Like I said in my first point Halo has become who has the best gun for the best situation.

  3. I still feel like the radar is useless. Either disable it or give it a 25m range. I’ve adapted pretty easily to it so this might not need serious adjustments.

  4. Maps are horrible, plainly put these maps are way to cluttered. Couple that with Thrust and there are so many “escape out of jail free” cards

  5. Thrust- they need to do something about this. Thrusting away to escape death is the same thing as armor lock IMO. All anyone uses this is 99% a defense ability, to get away from opponents.

I would suggest they nerf thrust directly with how much shield you have. For example full shield equals full thrust distance. That way people can still do jumps that require thrust.
Half shield half thrust distance.
No shield you can’t thrust.

i feel like that would balance it and it would be used for more of an offensive ability.

Keep in mind, just my opinions. What are yours?

Only thing I agree with is radars too small. I’ll admit I’m not crazy about a lot of the maps but…

[REDACTED]

But if you take out thrust you have to take out shoulder charge. I use thrust as a counter to shoulder charge, also a last hope chance if I am in a close BR Battle and both of our shields are broken.

The weapon balance in H5, might be the best in any Halo. The pistol serves it’s purpose as a utility weapon. It’s great at short-mid range, and pretty decent mid-long range. If someone misses one shot with their DMR/BR/Carbine/LR, you are able to trade kills with the magnum. The automatic rifles, AR/Suppressor/Storm Rifle/SMG should beat the pistol in a short range fight, since that is their strength. The pistol user should not lose a battle mid range to an automatic user. That is on the player, not the weapon.

actually the AR is arguably the worst weapon in the game and the magnum is really good.

I dont know. I actually think the spread on the AR is to tight for mid range. I dont think you should be able to spray a whole clip from a AR at mid range and get the kill. Automatic weapons just dont work like that. CLose range is a different story.

Long story short, I get more enjoyment out of coming on the forums and debating and discussing the game, then I get out of actually playing the game

The aiming mechanic specifically ruins the experience for me, coupled in with things like Spartan charge (the Spartan charge + AR noob combo has become the equivalent to the sprint double melee from reach) Autos that preform a little too well outside of their intended range a shorter radar (a short radar in of itself isn not a problem, when you factor in all these other things it becomes an issue) and everyone and their uncle crouching around it (to me anyway) is a really frustrating infuriating experience most times

I would say make aim-assisting to the level it was at the Beta. It was perfect then, now it’s essentially non-existent. I think this is just forcing competitive play.

I’m enjoying it, for sure. I think all of your points are horrible, save number 3 (make the radar consistent across all modes). The weapon balance and diversity is the best in the franchise so far, the game doesn’t hand you easy kills with generous aim assist, the maps are solid overall (we’ll see how they stand the test of time), and Arena and Warzone provide plenty of complimentary options to keep interested.

There are some individual changes that need to take place (death to BTB dynamic spawns, changing Stronghold cap point locations in a few spots, some TLC on the playlist management side including adding gametypes), but overall it’s an excellent experience that’s combined some of the great qualities of Halo past with some sensibly added modern updates.

I agree with this, though they need to increase the range on the radar for arena.

I agree with maps being horrible. But I don’t want the Magnum to get too much of a buff Cough wheneveryoneusedmagnuminhaloCE cough.
I’d hate to see everyone in a lobby using a magnum making every other gun besides rockets and shotguns absolute.

  1. I think assault rifles are fine. I rarely get a double kill with an AR. I just don’t think it’s that good but requires some certain level of skill to be able to effectively take out opponents rather than die in a 1-for-1 brawl.

  2. I completely disagree with this point too. I think perhaps change play style.

  3. The radar is definitely a problem, especially when you’re in a vehicle and a blip appears for a second and your tank is blown up.

  4. I don’t think the maps are aesthetically pleasing at all. The majority seem to all look the same. As for it being cluttered I disagree, it’s obvious that they’ve made it to be able to flow quicker if you’re able to manouver correctly like parkour. I can get from one side of the map to the other very quick with a slide jump thruster move. Which brings me to

  5. Just, no. You can dip out of battle if you’re able to even make it out alive. You can clear jumps and get around the map quicker it is probably my fav new feature. It isn’t difficult to chase people who thruster out of the 1v1. Especially if they retreat behind a corner or something for cover, just rush and thrust to burst out when they don’t expect it. Once again I recommend changing your play style rather than wanting nerfs for a new game you haven’t adjusted to. x

As for the mp itself I love Warzone and it is the only thing I play unless I have other friends online I can play Arena with and not get screwed over by quitters or terrible mates with whom I can’t communicate because nobody seems to use game chat these days

So you don’t think that “using the right weapon for a situation” is a good thing?

There shouldn’t be one OP gun that everyone can use. This multiplayer has the most balanced guns of any I’ve played in a while. But maybe that’s just me. It definitely blows COD and Destiny way out of the water.

they need to let us upgrade and change weapons in multiplayer!! this game is super fun but not being able to change guns is lame! that’s the best part about shooters! I personally would not of bought the game if I knew I wouldn’t be able to change my guns… I think its better than COD but not being able to change your gun makes it lame and COD better

I’ve got no problems with the weapons in the game, they seem quite balanced,

hate to break it to you, but automatic weapons of the rifle variety do work like that, should be able to provide effective fire 300m + maybe not with holding the trigger down and unleashing a clip, but i guess being a spartan, they should be able to keep the weapon steady and on target and unleash.

> Hello, is there a way to change weapons in online play such as big team battle and slayer… love this game but I was told there is no way to do so! they should put that in an update, sorry to post this here couldn’t find a forum to do so!

They tried load-outs in Halo 4 and it does not work. Halo 5 does not have loadouts for Big Team or Slayer. Everyone spawns with an AR/Pistol in slayer and AR/BR in BTB. Equal starts for everyone.

damn that really sucks they need load outs its better that way. the game is amazing and I love halo but not being able to change the guns kills it for me

I just want a little more variety in terms of playlist options. Other than that, I’m pretty happy with the overall experience.

I don’t really agree with any of the OPs points. Maybe about the maps.

  1. There are so many weapons on the map that are better than your starting set so it’s not hard to make sure you have one.

  2. If you get the first hit with the pistol you can still beat an AR. If the pistol was buffed it would make a lot of weapon pickups redundant

  3. I really like the short radar. It works both ways - it means it’s a little easier for you to sneak around the back too.

  4. I think the maps are OK, but not great.

  5. I like the way the thrust ability has changed the game. I enjoy those moments when you see your enemy and wait that extra moment to let them move too far away from cover before you attack them - it all adds to the strategy.

The one thing I don’t enjoy is rockets. I think they are too important on slayer in particular. The splash range is too large which makes it too easy to get a lot of kills. I’m ok with having to try to make sure the rockets are on your team but it’s barely even satisfying to use rockets. I would change them, either reduce the splash range and/or increase the reload time and/or increase the time to switch to/from rockets to make sure you have to think a bit more about how you use them.
