WHY IS IT STILL CALLED THE ANTI AIR WRAITH!?!?
This has been something that has bothered me since Halo 3. The damn things sucks at shooting down air units but ROMPS everything on the ground. Everyone I knew during the time hated the idea of them being called AA wraiths so much that we just called them Assault Wraiths. It has two automatic fuel rod guns, you can’t tell me that thing isn’t used to obliterate EVERYTHING (but Hornets) on the fly.
It’s like calling the ultra ghost and an anti-air vehicle. Just because it fires explosive rounds doesn’t make it AA. I have the same problem with the people who call the Fuel Rod Gun the Flak cannon. NO! STOP IT! You know better guy who made that up. Shame on Bungie for not being more creative with the naming of the Assault Wraith. They could of even called it the Ground Pounder since a single squeeze of the trigger will lead to total carnage on the surface of whatever now desolate world you just destroyed.
So I pitch the idea to you and 343. Rename it the Assault Wraith, because we all know the normal mortar cannon can only do so much and is easily outclassed by the scorpion since it’s clearly not designed for head to head combat. I love the standard Wraith, I have one I’ve personally named Ani Haran. Yes, that’s Mandalorian for Universal Annihilator, I love my wraith. I named it that because years ago I got my first Unfrigginbelievable with a Wraith. Along the way I killed a few teammates as well so…yeah, not sorry honestly.
So what will it be.
The disgusting AA Wraith
or
The Dauntless Assault Wraith
?
P.S. Was it ever explained why it was a different color? Was The Prophet of Design and Coloration feeling particularly spicy the weekend the ASSAULT WRAITH was pitched to him?
I’m wondering if 343 added it just so it could be used by the A.I. in Warzone. I’m sure people won’t be good with shooting down air vehicles, but I’d bet that thing is going to be pretty accurate when the A.I. uses it.
They could fix the AA Wraith – make its projectiles fly faster and track airborne vehicles really well. Basically make them like Halo 5 hunter cannons. The crucial step, I think, is that they have to fly faster than the banshee does while it boosts. Even if it’s only slightly faster, that should be enough.
with how creative 343 naming is im just just it isn’t just called SWORD ROCKET HOG WRAITH

Better then AA if you ask me.

I thought the same thing when I heard about the sentinel beam being added into the game. They’d work for both honestly but I’d just like a bit of a name change.

But what stops it from just turning it’s guns down a couple of degrees and wiping out an entire platoon of Spartans? Just calling it the assault wraith or all purpose Wraith would solve the problem.

Possible answers:
- Literally the game could stop it. Maybe AA wraiths in Halo 5 can only really look at the sky. That would solve it right there.
- Arbitrary game balance without logic. Maybe the projectile does a lot more damage to air vehicles than to anything else.
- Something vaguely explainable but still essentially just balance. Maybe the projectiles do more damage the farther they fly, and start at a fairly low base amount – thus, your airborne targets (which will tend to be far from you) will get hit by a two-shot kill, but targets within 30 meters of you will get hit by an 8-shot kill. Say that the plasma’s made of a weird element that gets hotter when the outside cools, at first, before the inside finally starts cooling. The extra heat means more damage.
- Change the way the AA Wraith fires. Maybe it fires one big green blob. Maybe it fires a bunch of weak green ones in a set burst (like the Mantis or rocke warthog). Ultimately, they could slow down and control more how many shots the player can/will unleash and balance the damage around that.
Wait, we’re getting AA Wraiths?! I’ve dreamed of driving one of those (without glitching) since Halo 3!
swoons
I can almost guarantee you that in lore the AA Wraith tracks airborne targets, but since Bungie did not exactly plan for it to be driven (oooooh Bungie you naive fool who did you think we were) they didn’t program it to track, I bet this one will though X3
Probably due to lore reasons. Guns behave diffrently in lore than they do games.
Assault wraith sounds badass btw
Also flak cannon = og PC name for the fuel rod.

You made air shoot out my nose.

Thats exactly what it is. The Type-3 FRGs it fires track heat signatures and explode in proximity, dealing stupidly nasty damage to anything caught in the blast.
I hope you’re right that they implement it here too…and that we get a UNSC equivilent. Scorpion with twin rocket pods? YES PLEASE
The covies better AA guns utilise Needler tech. we need those.

Or a wolverine

Or a Wolverine, yes. Though the way I see the Wolv, the Rocket Hog kinda fills the same roll. Then again, the Wolv would have that grenade launcher for the driver so

I’m hoping I’m right too otherwise those banshee raiders are going to be a **yoink to knock out of the sky XD oooooooorrrr we could get the Wolverine :3
I’m more curious what that new armor is I’m hoping it’s not an uncommon I’m nearly done getting every pecie of armor and I don’t want to back to uncommons just to get that armor set
Maybe the fuel rods seek air targets?
The ai don’t need any more help being over powered.

I believe the UNSC equivalents would either be the Wolverine or the Sun Devil Tank.
