Now less than three months out from launch

We are now officially less than three months out from launch for H5 and the game has yet to go gold for certification
Does this concern anyone else?

Not at all. From what I’ve noticed games go gold with about a month or two left.

In the past most Halo games don’t go gold until there is about 7 weeks until release

Cheers for the info guys

To me, gold status is more of a manufacturing consideration than an expression of market readiness.

The ability to push out massive day one updates and other patches mean that developers continue to work right up until release (and beyond).

Technically, a game doesn’t go gold until after it’s been through certification.

343’s games have typically gone gold only a month or so before release:

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary went gold on October 15, 2011, and the game was released on November 15 (31 days later)
Halo 4 went gold on September 27, 2012, and the game was released on November 6 (40 days later)
Halo: The Master Chief Collection went gold on October 17, 2014, and the game was released on November 11 (25 days later)

We’ve still got plenty of time, I wouldn’t be worried.

Good post and solid info
Cheers and thanks

Do games usually even go gold 3 months out? I cant think of any off the top of my head.

And no doesnt concern me. Besides theyd work for a day one patch anyway.

I’ve always have wanted to know how the development process goes when a game is near release :stuck_out_tongue:

Even though some people already answered the question.

Just because a game goes gold doesn’t mean it’s finish. I can name several games that when gold but was missing features and turn out they weren’t done.
halo 4 and mcc went gold but they never finished the game in time for the deadline. Even if halo 5 goes gold very soon before release, I hold your breath despite me being exited for halo 5.

343 probably isn’t as finished with the game as we think…

lol wut, why would you think it would be going gold so soon? Games typically dont hit gold until a month before release. Halo 3 for example went gold in August before it’s September release.

Great post and thank you for the info. Can’t wait until Halo 5: G comes out.

They call it “crunch,” and it ain’t pretty. To wit:

Perfect reply. Yes games don’t go gold until typically about a month before they release.

Yay three months to go
