Now I've played the GOW 4 beta...

Now I’ve played the GOW 4 beta, I truely appreciate Halo 5 more. Gears is WAY too much like Gears 3, right down to the copy and paste animations and executions. Halo 5 is how an xbox franchise should be brought to next gen.

Talking about GOW 4, this leads on to what H5 does right. Halo 5 feels like an advancement and it doesn’t feel like it employs copy and paste from previous Halo games. It does feel relatively next gen and it ‘feels’ different but still Halo at the same time.

This is so important with sequels. To use the same assets and to make the same game over and over without changing things up, is boring.

Big well done to 343 for trying different things with H5 and the execution from a gameplay perspective is great.

Last I checked at least Gears included the gametypes of the previous games.

I like how we can compare Halo to a lot of other stuff. This community is the best and I couldn’t appreciate it more.

GOW4 is like GOW3 because that is exactly what fans want. Judgment was a complete Failure in comparsion to GOW3 because a new team decided to make a bunch of unwanted changes. Specially They took away core stuff that fans loved like executions, and gametypes. I mean completely removed them. DUMB. I loved Judgement but a lot of fans didn’t for the reasons I mentioned.

As a BIG Fan of Gears I don’t want them changing anything about the game mechanics. They could improve the accuracy of some of the weapons. But other than that, I don’t want any changes. FOR ME Gears is very unique. Its very different to Halo, COD and BF. I want it to stay that way.

I would rather have a game that makes significant gameplay advancements and has initial lack of game modes than a rehashed sequel with consistent game types to its predecessors.

Oh, good. I might pick it up then. I loved GOW3 so much.

I will still be picking up. Not saying otherwise. But shocked that a new in house developer can’t even create a semi next gen experience. Makes me appreciate 343

Your argument would make sense if Gears of war judgement was a success. Judgement was a major departure from the series, it was universally hated. So the developers went back to the drawing board to what made gears successful. Something 343 should take note of…

That’s missing my point. Yes I don’t want Gears to lose it’s identity and features. I’ve played all of them. However -identical animations? Identical executions? Identical sounds? This is laziness to the max and it’s cheap. For a franchise moving from 360 to X1, there are no excuses

Changing the gameplay a lot doesn’t constitute a next generation game. Halo 3 barely changed anything from Halo 2, and it was a next generation game.

It’s not about Judgement. I have made no points about that. I am talking about the sequel to Gears 3 which is Gears 4 and the parallels between 343 moving Halo to next gen and The Coalition doing the same for Gears.

They have added some executions. I have seen videos of them. I think its dumb how Halo has changed its sounds in EVERY FREAKING game. Half the weapons in H5 sound terrible they sound WEAK. Go listen to how violent the weapons sounded in CE and you will see what I’m talking about and don’t get me started on how bad the AR sounds in H3. HORRENDOUS. I could rant about that one thing all day. You don’t fix what is not broken. I like guns to sound like guns. I don’t want them to sound like toy guns bought from a local Kmart.

There was a full-game called Gears of War Judgement that came out between Gears of War 3 and the upcoming Gears of War 4. It was terrible. So now they’re listening to fans and going back to their roots.

The game being identical to Gears 3 is intentional. The fans want a return to form and they’re getting it. Makes me discouraged that 343 can’t do the same.

Maybe not. However graphically, on an artistic scale and on the whole Halo 5 feels next gen to me. If I compare the H5 beta and GOW 4 beta, it’s no contest.

Judgement did the very thing you want for gears. It did not work, so the devs did the only reasonable thing to do and made gears play like a gears game. If you think its boring then gears wasn’t the game for you and you should find another franchise. Gears should play like gears, halo like halo, etc.

Still missing the point…

A return to form is copying and pasting animations, sounds and executions? We will have to completely disagree. I am not alone in my thoughts. People are echoing similar thoughts on the Gears forum.

I am praising 343 for making use of X1 with H5. Gears 4 does that no more than Ultimate Edition, judging by the beta.

What kind of different animations were you expecting? You have no way of knowing if the animations are even that similar unless you compare them side-by-side. You’re going by memory. If you’re talking about executions, well yeah, of course they’d remain consistent. Halo 5 has all of the Assassinations from Halo 4 as well as other animations. You don’t fault 343 though, right?
Sounds like you’re looking for a problem where there isn’t one, and as well as whoever else “echoes your thoughts.” If you have to bash another franchise to make you feel better about Halo, then there’s something wrong with Halo, not Gears.

I love Halo 5, however had they just copied and pasted Halo 3 with next gen graphics, I’d have been happy with that as well.

It’s not to make myself feel better about Halo. I love Halo. There’s dozens and dozens of new animations in Halo 5 - look at all the multiplayer assassinations. Why would executions remain consistent? These are new characters 25 years on from Gears 3. They would not have the same executions. I love Gears but number 4’s multiplayer feels no different to Gears 3. That is my issue and as I said, it makes me appreciate 343 more
