Noticeably Longer Matchmaking Times (Ranked)

I have started to pick up on noticeably longer matchmaking times in Ranked. I play on the east coast at prime-ish weeknight hours (8PM-10PM). I am used to matchmaking for major games (COD, Halo, Fortnight, Apex, etc)
being pretty much instant. However, I’ve started running into a minute or two delay to get matches.

Obviously, this isn’t a huge inconvenience, but I’m curious to see if others are seeing longer times. Do we have any sense of the Xbox population these days? It seems like a not-so-great sign.

Currently 4,163 people on Steam rn. Idk about other platforms, but I know it can be a struggle for EU at times. Popularity is definitely fading for the game. Twitch viewership is awful unless there is a tourney, (yes I know it’s not what to base off of). I don’t really see the numbers increasing that much for the remainder of the season based on previous numbers. The new season didn’t really retain or bring back a lot of people. I think the true test of sustainability to judge the game off of is once forge & co-op comes out, how many people will still be playing say a month-2 after that release.

I haven’t personally noticed much drop in peak times, but definitely in off-peak times (mornings) it can take a few minutes to find a game.

Another factor may be in our searching variables. In peak hours I’m usually searching Open Crossplay with a full squad of Diamonds. In the off-peak times that I play, I’m usually solo-queueing Open Crossplay. I stopped playing Solo-Duo Queue altogether due to wait times and just general difficulty in ranking up versus Open.

I’ve also noticed recently that I often get matched with the same people multiple games in a row.

And it often puts me in non-East coast servers, which seems crazy that it can’t find people in East coast U.S.

The population is definitely decreasing.

Edit: Or the matchmaking is just completely scuffed.

Yes, this is a good point. I have seen the same people in repeated games much more regularly over the last week or so, which is generally a sign of a smaller population too.

I observed the same and I am living in EU.
To be honest, matchmaking here is horrible in Ranked. I need to wait sometimes for more than 5 minutes, sometimes I cant find any game at all even in the evenings.
And if I find a game than its mostly the same people whereas some people are very high Onyx players and its no fun at all.

I am thinking to drop Halo infinite because of that.
