That’s it. It has bloom, it requires too many shots to kill an enemy, it’s inconsistent, it’s just a spam weapon.
Ok
You must not run into the same people I do that use the sidekick because it feels likes anytime I come across someone with a sidekick they are melting people in two seconds. I agree with you that it is a straight spam weapon but either I’m running across people with the best aim in the world or that gun has insane magnetism because people will wildly spam the sidekick in my direction and melt me before I can get behind cover.
7 shot kill perfect, you aren’t trying hard enough, but you stated in your OP you aren’t looking to have your mind changed, so why even bother posting this?
I freaking WISH it was 2 seconds.
Pretty sure sidekick spammers are running with controller mod packs for auto fire. If not then the hundreds of players that I come across each week, will likely get arthritis or tendonitis in the next few years. Hope those couple extra kills are worth it.
It’s 1.10s, which to put into perspective the AR is 1.35s, and the BR is 1.45. The only tier 1 weapon with a TTK that rivals the Sidekick is the Commando, and it’s up at 1.14s and it’s far less likely to actually score a max rof perfect.
The fact that the Sidekick can miss a shot and still beat all the other options, or miss 2 shots and still beat a perfect with a BR is ridiculous. By the time a BR user who didn’t land a perfect gets their 5th shot out, the Sidekick is about to reload. That’s a LOT of opportunities to punish a BR user for missing not even a burst, but a single bullet.
That’s insane.
Shouldn’t the sidekick be more like it’s namesake? Something to finish off kills? Paired up with a shield draining weapon. The quick swap feature that it has lends well to this, but most people just use it like a primary weapon since it’s likely the best possible weapon you can have ready at any given time.
The amount of people I have dropped just using the sidekick… I get excited when I see get X amount of kills with the sidekick I’m like noice Too easy
Halo had that once before in the M6C from Halo 2. It was trash. Aside from occasionally gimmicking it with the Plasma Pistol if you couldn’t get a BR/Carbine, or dual wielding it with an SMG if you were desperate it went pretty much untouched.
The Sidekick DOES serve an important purpose in Infinite, in that it makes AR starts tolerable, because if the AR was stronger than the Sidekick, the game would devolve completely into an RNG fest. The Sidekick will actually shine in a skilled player’s hands, but skill has very little weight on the outcome of an AR duel.
The problem is the AR is so lethal in Infinite that the Sidekick NEEDS to be as busted as it is to maintain an advantage over it. If the AR was more in line with previous Halo games, the Sidekick could be weakened a smidge as well, which would make a pretty big difference.
Dual-Wielding had a lot to do with that. I’m pretty sure you couldn’t kill someone without having to reload first (that’s just bad design). And on top of everything, it was paired with the SMG which was also trash (again, dual-wielding). Then combine that with how cracked the H2 BR was and you have Curb Stomp Simulator.
It’s not just the AR, it’s the entire sandbox. TTKs are down across the board. It’s the AR, the BR, the Sidekick, the Commando (although the bloom and recoil really humble it) even the Bulldog improves on the shotgun. It’s these simple, point-and-shoot guns with hitscan projectiles having lower TTKs than slow firing, projectile-based weapons with bullet drop. There’s a reason guns like the Mangler or Heatwave get torn up by starting weapons: There isn’t a big enough gap between map pickups and spawn weapons.
What do you think is the best way to design a Magnum for halo Infinite?
Because the current, kills-faster-than-half-the-sandbox pistol isn’t the right answer IMO.
This is true to a point. There are other ways to achieve this balance. For example, picking up other weapons which can be found all over the map gives players an advantage over the AR (you aren’t forced to use default weapons).
Additionally, the Sidekick does not need to be more powerful than the AR to reward skill. The sidekick gets its power over the AR as a short ranged spam shooter, it is an RNG weapon just like the AR. What if it was a precision weapon instead?
The current sidekick:
- Optimal TTK = 1.10s
- Shots to Kill: 6 shield, 1 crit (7 / 12), MoE = 42%
- High Bloom
The Sidekick could be reworked like this:
- Optimal TTK = 1.30s
- Shots to Kill: 8 shield, 1 crit (9 / 12). MoE = 25%
- Less bloom.
In this way the Sidekick would actually set out to be what you describe it as, a skilled weapon to combat the MA40 AR. It would have a very fast TTK for a precision weapon, however it’s low MoE (you can only miss 3 shots before a reload) would actually require true accuracy. Although it doesn’t have a faster TTK than the MA40 AR (why should a pistol be more powerful than an Assualt Rifle) if it was more precise it would still be the preferred option for skilled players (players that prefer to trust their ability vs bloom).
100%. There is a middle ground between a 13 shot kill pistol and a 7 shot kill pistol.
The Sidekick is a boring, high bloom spam cannon that is a significant step back from the H5 Pistol that seems like it was born entirely out of the complaints of the most shallow Halo fans. On one hand you have the people who will always whine about utility weapons like the H5 Pistol existing and on the other the even shallower people who have a fit if a Pistol can kill someone with a rifle in a video game because “realism”
And what have we ended up with? Now we are back to having a split playerbase between AR and BR starts, as opposed to largely universal AR/Magnum in 5 and the “pistol shouldn’t beat rifle” types will never be satisfied until human pistols are completely useless “backups” in a franchise where you can only hold two weapons regardless of size or shape.
Its a genuinely disappointed step back.
Fun, useful weapon. Nothing will change your mind so this post is just spam. You can decide to not like a weapon. Some folks do.
The sidekick is just ok. It’s nothing to write home about unless you’re really good with it.
Sidekick is the best pistol since CE it melts opponents with little effort, change my mind.
