Nothing Short of Infinity
Introduction

I would first like to apologise if this isn’t any good, and if I get a few things wrong. I’m a huge lover of the Halo universe but my knowledge is still growing so any criticism regarding the accuracy of my writing in relation to Halo lore will be happily embraced. I write when inspiration comes so I’ll be updating this as I write (Don’t worry, I have the story planned out but I like to share it as I write). On the other hand, if you enjoy my writing, then I’ll happily keep going!

The story will follow a young scientist as she develops and aims to become one of ONI’s top personnel. Here’s an introduction:

January 10th 2553
Home of Arina Regent in Kerria, a city on the planet Levosia.
“Thanks to a recent breakthrough making Linear acceleration possible in the most compact of products, the UNSC has begun testing for a weapon named the Asymmetric Recoilless Carbine-920 or, more commonly, the ARC Railgun. The testing is taking place right here on Levosia so expect more news on the breakthrough very soon.”
The monitor flickered to black as Arina stared blankly at the notebook in her hand. She found it rather unusual that the UNSC was spending so much time and resources on funding new types of weaponry, but the end of one war did not mean the end of all wars. There were still plenty of potential threats to humanity, including insurgent colonists, out there and that meant that the human race was in a constant state of alert. Sure the Elites had decided upon peace with humanity for the time being, but it would only take one feud to spark another war. Word had spread that the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) was looking for a brave scientist to spend time on Sangheilios and investigate a so-called ancient ruins that the Sangheili had discovered there, as well as to find out more about the Sangheili race and the cultures they embrace. Of course the ruins they were talking about were Forerunner structures, they had to be, but what fascinated Arina was the planet itself and the creatures that inhabited it. She had always wanted to study the Elites in more detail, but had never managed to get close enough to do so. She was an infant, nothing more than a ‘wannabe Halsey’, but subconsciously she had decided that this would be her chance; not only a chance to develop as a scientist, but a chance to work on a face-to-face level with the race that fascinated her so much. She painfully scribbled through her notes and ripped out the page she had been writing on, pacing back and forth in the hopes that some kind of inspiration would come to her. She needed something special, something that would single her out from the rest of the ‘Halsey Wannabes’, to convince ONI that she would be the right candidate for the mission.
