Nothing is worse than the „I hate every map that is not symmetrical and square shaped” community

Yes, I’ve said it. All the Launch Site & Behemoth haters can come at me.

Seriously, this is something that mostly comes from Halo 5 Fans (or guys who previously just played COD and know nothing better)

Yes, this game has a lot of issues right now and I agree with almost all of them, however, the outcry on particular maps is just ridiculous.

For the first time in over 10 years the maps seem to get more diverse and interesting – I was surprised by the attempt to implement maps like Behemoth and Launch Site – 4vs4 Maps with Man Cannons and vehicles – I was just happy to finally get a different experience.

Then I’m looking and Social Media and the only thing I can do is to shake my head. People complaining with arguments like

  • maps too big

  • my teammates don’t know how to navigate

  • I get lost on this map

  • way too open

  • this map should be removed because I hate vehicles and man cannons

Have you ever thought that certain maps play well in certain game modes? Like Launch Site with One Flag, One Bomb, Territorries etc.? Don’t you guys know how to use man cannons or vehicles?

I can’t believe that some people say that Behemoth is too big and demand this map to be a BTB Map. Like seriously, are you kidding me? The infantry section is actually tiny, lmao. If you sprint in the sand like a headless chicken or don’t know how to use man cannons / vehicles, maybe you should start questioning your own decisions first?

But the SAME guys literally always have maps like Street & Aquarius as their favorite map, which further proves my point that most of these guys are either used to games like Halo 5 / COD, where every map looks the same. Symmetrical, 3 lane, just sprint in a circle until all braincells are gone.

Yet the SAME guys complaining about the lacks of map. Why do you even complain, when the only thing you want is the 1000th iteration / variation of midship?

I’ve already given up / am not looking forward to any new maps, because with all these complaints the only thing we will get will be the same, symmetrical square shaped 3 lane map with 1 ramp changed. Or they go overly “creative” again like they did with H5 and just turn the map upside down. Apparently, this is enough to make certain people happy.

My advice: This game is not centered around you. I’d rather have 10 unique maps where I dislike 3 maps with the bottom of my heart and enjoy the 7 other ones, instead of having to play the same map with a displaced ramp over and over again.

I guess we will never see unique maps with dynamique elements again (like in CE-3) because of the outcry that map designers face once you try something new out.

If the only thing you enjoy is the same map over and over again, why don’t you just boot up custom games and play midship / aquarius 24/7 and let people enjoy a broader experience of maps?

PS: Before I get marked as a Aquarius / Midship hater, I’m not hating on these types of maps. I’m totally fine with a midship variant. The only thing I’m saying is that we need more unique maps that play well in certain game modes. We have to move away from this restrictive map layout we have been getting for over 10 years now.

Behemoth isn’t rubbish because it’s not symmetrical, not square or too large…it’s just a very poorly designed map that has been universally criticised for being so bad. My heart sinks when that map comes up in the rotation…it needs a complete overhaul and redesign…or just nuke it altogether.

Oh BS. We we were fine with maps like Ivory Tower, Construct, Lockout, Guardian, Chill Out, Zanzibar and a huge list of other maps. None of these maps fit the Halo aesthetic and gameplay. Recharge and Aquarius are the the only ones that come close. Every map literally plays pretty much the same. You’re right. We WON’T see unique maps and that’s because 343 straight up doesn’t know how to make those.

Lol I remember the 1 million variations they had in Halo 5 maps for already existing maps.

Really hope they don’t do that in Infinite. It’s just lazy design imo.

I’m not here trying do defend 343.
But right now the messaging feels wrong and the critique makes it seems like the only thing people are fine with are square shaped 3 lane maps with endless cover.

We need those more open space maps for the implementation of vehicles. Not for everyone, but maps with vehicles certainly do. I want to feel different experiences like I used to between Halo 1 and 3.
I’m not saying that they have to go overboard and reinvent the wheel with every new map. But having different combat flow on different maps is what makes a game unique and replayable.

Lockout, Damnation, Ivory Tower, Boarding Action, Zanzibar, Chillout, Terminal, High Ground, Construction, Longshore and many more all offer different combat flows - this is what this topic is about.

The problem is that right now people are not demanding for more variety, most of the critique is demanding for the opposite. Playing it safe and not risking anything (like H5) will lead to nothing.
