Not too thrilled for the progression system

First, I’ll say I called it. I’ve made threads way back explaining how the SR system would be the progression system and turns out I was right. I just looked at the bulletin and theres some things I do like and don’t like.

What I don’t like is this. Yes, we have different loadout classes like Reach but we can customize every class now unlike the loadouts in Reach. I can understand that Halo has to evolve to keep up with the next generation of gaming. But what I’m seeing is our starting class is going to be with just the AR and Magnum? I’ve gotten fairy decent at Halo since Reach, so I know I’ll be fine, ranking up in Halo 4. But I haven’t played the game so I don’t know how strong the AR or Magnum is. I hope they are more buffed unlike their Reach counterparts. But starting with one class? Black Ops 2.0 just popped into my head, I’m sorry but it did. But mind you it is different. You have one default class to start with and probably the tailored loadout options for each gametype which in that way is different then COD. Still, I don’t agree with only having one starting class but thats me.

I know it’s Reach’s system, but improved. I know you don’t gain xp from losing matches which thank the Oracle that this mechanic is somewhat similar to Halo 3, though I don’t know if you get any xp since it does state you won’t get competition xp. I sincerely hope it’s 0 xp if you lose a match. I don’t like however, how you do not de-rank if you lose a match. I know 343 is catering to new players coming into the Halo series with this, and some people don’t mind it but we know some peope are not going to like it.

What I do like is that it’s improved. I didn’t like Reachs system at all, and I’m hoping it’ll pair you with players at your skill level and not be random. That’s one of the reasons I don’t play Reach. If I’m gonna go solo, I want to be matched against players with similar skill to me, not players that are gonna mow me down. There are a crap load of ranks after you hit 50 and I wasn’t expecting 80 ranks for the specialization. I just hope the quit ban isn’t in and I’ll be fine.

I’m still skeptical about the progression system. I’m not excited for it but doesn’t mean I won’t give it a chance to see how it plays out. Doesn’t mean I’m unhappy about it either. As long as it gives me incentive to keep playing, that’s all I care for.

You still get xp for losing matches, just no win bonus(BUT, the win bonus is much bigger than Reachs). And de-ranking would be awkward with an unlock system IMO.

That’s what I don’t agree with though. Why give players a pat on the back and say goods job you tried and give them xp? People didn’t like that about Reach, expecially some of the compeitive people.

You’re acting as if it’s for ranking. It isn’t, wasn’t meant to be, and the amount of weapons you get shouldn’t be dependent on your skill level.

> I’m not saying that the weapons would be dependent on my skill level. I’m just explaining that Halo 4 is a Halo3/Reach hybrid. They should’ve put Halo 3 mechanics in Halo 4’s rank system also. I don’t care if it isn’t ranking. What I’m seeing is a progression system that is an upgrade Reach system and I’m not happy with some of it. I have every right to not be happy. If and when they release info about the skill based ranking system then I’ll possibly change my mind about it if it’s incorporated into the progession system.

That you don’t like the fact a player doesn’t lose xp upon losing a game, means you’d rather have a skill based system dependent on your team winning, and have your loadout dependent on game-game play. If you still hold to this, then you obviously don’t get what this system is for.

That said, assuming they match you against other players of a similar sr-rank, as you level up, you’ll come across more experienced and well developed players leading to more even games. It’s also very possible you’ll have a hidden true-skill rating, and that’ll get you better matchups. Either way.

You have a point.

This isn’t the only ranking system in the game. Frankie confirmed a skill based ranking system will be in and it’ll be using Microsoft’s True-skill, as per Microsoft’s requirements. It was also confirmed that it won’t be the 1-50 from Halo 3, nor the Arena from Reach. Cool your jets, please. The SR ranks are just for instant gratification. And another thing, your skill based rank, a la True-skill will be hidden, as per Microsoft’s requirements.

EDIT: Forgot my Red text

No problem.

Personally, I want a skill rating based on officer ranks. It’d make sense at least.
