So I was just playing the new anniversary firefight map online and I watched in horror as some guy murdered an ODST just to take his shotgun. Was this really necessary!? I actually give my good weapons to the ODSTs, but he was killed in cold blood for the shotty. How terrible.

They knew the risks when they enlisted, and several Spartans have not forgotten the treatment given to John-117 by the ODST of the Pillar of Autumn. Never forget, never forgive.
But he was shot in cold blood! He was just standing there, thinking about killin’ some covenant, maybe get in that warthog over there, drive around and kill some things, then BAM! His life was taken for a simple shotgun! I’m just trying to understand why you could be so cruel to innocent ODST. Poor guy never saw it comin’.

The player wasn’t thinking of it as killing an innocent ODST. He thought of it as disposing of an expendable NPC in a video game so as to acquire superior weaponry from them. This is what happens when a player isn’t immersed in the game enough.
