I hear tons of people saying make the maps better for H5. That reach and H4 had terrible maps. I think both games had decent maps it was just the DMR made them frustrating. Especially in Halo 4 there quite a few good maps with good structure proper cover points and symmetry. Its just allowing every player in the game to pop shot from basically anywhere forces players to camp on the outside of the map. Making 80 percent of the map a death trap we don’t get a chance to fully enjoy them. I just constantly find myself saying “This map would be so much fun without the DMR.” All I’m trying to say 343 is if any of you have an ounce of decency you’ll take that awful game flow killing, no talent encouraging, joke of a weapon and kill it. Please Halo 5 needs that weapon gone.

I don’t even play multiplayer and I know that isn’t the only thing, Active Camo does, Ordnance does, Insta-Spawn does, etc.
I don’t blame the BR because someone kills me up close, the BR ruins Close Quarters then when it’s a precision weapon
Also out of curiosity… if you hate the DMR so much… why is it your most used weapon?
If you can’t beat em join em. That was the beauty of the older Halo games you could use any weapon effectively. Now try taking two steps in any map without being tagged by DMR fire. I guess it’s not so much the power of the weapon but the range that bugs me. I do realize its not just the DMR creating map flow problems. It’s just my favorite to hate on.
The DMR isn’t even OP now, the LR can easily counter it, I can take them out with a magnum easily, it’s not as bad as people make it out to be
In many cases, it is the maps fault.
Reach and Halo 4 maps were unique in the fact that many of them were built around the use of a specific gametype.
While these maps were good on that gametype, they eventually got overplayed and annoying, making 343 or Bungie look at this and go “oh, well why don’'t we put these maps in other gametypes, make it change gameplay a little.”
That is where it becomes the maps fault, as it wasn’t designed to be played that way and disrupts gameplay.
Weapons are only 15-20% of the problem.
the rest is AA usage, layout and fluidness of maps and how they are used during what games.
IMO.
Halo 4 had some of the worst btb maps in a Halo game. They were compact and not built well for vehicles. Mainly due to, as you said, the DMR being a handheld WMD.
Well, it was some of the maps fault. Like Unfair Vehicle placement, and asymmetric maps. However, Halo 3 had asymmetric BTB maps that were, and are HUGE hits.

I disagree wholeheartedly.
Maps in Halo 5 need to be much, much larger. I am talking about the scale of Battlefield 3. Before you call me a “Call of Battlefield” fanboy, realize that I actually do not like Battlefield games (I only play them to socialize with my friends and cousins). The one saving grace of that series, in my eyes, is probably solely the fact that their maps are so gargantuan.
I have been playing Halo since “Combat Evolved”, and this is something I’ve been wanting in the halo multiplayer for years.
A good map design can be enough to nullify any unbalance in the sandbox.
The DMR is OP? Not on a small corridor map. The boltshot is OP? Not on a map with rounded corners. Just two examples here.
However, a good sandbox will make it much, much easier to make epic maps, as more maps will obviously be playable with better game mechanics. Maps aren’t 100% the reason why Reach and H4 are worse than H2 and H3, but they certainly contributed.
The maps, by the way, weren’t worse because the designers all of a sudden lacked inspiration, it was because they had to take sprint into account into the map design. Which makes it impossible to make small arena maps like before.
So in a way, the changed sandbox is the cause of it all, yes. But both maps and sandbox are equally important.

“Let’s make maps the size of Battlefield maps, because we won’t be copying Battlefield or anything”
How about we stick to what made Halo so great? Why do we need to keep trying to find things from other games to make Halo more successful? I have played Battlefield for roughly 1000 hours (all games included), and Battlefield is slowly moving away from what made it successful. Battlefield was all about Vehicles, but it is slowly moving towards Infantry with Vehicles playing a side-role.
If we keep Halo as an arena shooter, this includes the map design, then we can possibly restore some of the Halo faithful back to playing Halo.

It doesn’t matter what 343 does the halo loyalist are not coming back, as far as the size of battlefield maps it could work but it would have to be bigger than 8v8 and then it would be hard to balance with kill times as not to be to overwhelming, it honestly could see it working and could have the potential to be a whole bunch of fun.
I’m sorry but the maps in halo reach and halo 4 are terrible. There are obviously other things wrong with these games but bad maps are definitely on the top of the list of things wrong with these games.
