I have seen countless people claiming they are true Halo fans from back in the day. Well if there is one thing that I remember from back in those days is that the community far more mature than they are now. There so called ‘true’ fans keep on complaining whining, saying that they want old school Halo back. Personally I believe that even if the gameplay goes back to what I used to be it won’t bring back the old days of Halo as long as the community stays in the state that it is in. Just look at the response to when Halo 2 Anniversary was first shown off, the old school gameplay was brought back, but the community jumped at every chance they could get to complain about it. All that I saw were people whining over things such as the way that the medals look, and they way that the guns sound ect ect… Also look at Halo 5 guardians, 343 is giving us a competitive focused Halo game, but just because it isn’t a carbon copy of Halo 2 or 3 with a new coat of paint it is hated on. I have seen countless comments of people saying that they want competitive Halo back, but from what I’ve seen the community could give a rats -Yoink- about how competitive the game is, all that these people care about is their nostalgia boners. Don’t get me wrong I am super nostalgic about the old Halo games, but if I want some nostalgia I’ll just play them. Halo 5 marks the return of competitive Halo, and an evolution to the franchise, and for that I couldn’t be more excited especially after the disappointment that was Halo 4’s multiplayer ( campaign was good though ). While I highly doubt it will happen, I hope that Halo 5 will also mark the return of old school Halo community, the one that I remember from back in the day.
I don’t know where this quote came from but I sure as hell stand by it - Nostalgia is a poison for those who cannot control it.
I remember those days as well. Just know that alot changed since 01. Most of our peers from the CE-2 days dont have much time for gaming anymore if they do at all. In all truth it wasnt until reach that i noticed a decline in the comunity, numbers aside.
What we have now are people to young to know about Quake or Unreal Tournament to see that H5 is well within the definition of an arena shooter. Since they dont know they claim everything to be CoD. Funny since if there was no halo thered be no CoD.
You can still find people who know what arena shoots should look like here but there more concerned about how to make what we’ve seen look and play like halo. I know that that feel is subjective but people tend to know what a halo should feel like to them. 343 themselves are focused on this so eventhough theyre primary concern is gameplay im sure theyll respond to feed back about visuals.
I remember the community that would defend Halo to their grave. Now they spend hours searching for things to complain about. I seriously saw a thread about people not liking that the Sniper Rifle’s reticle had changed. You’re complaining about a 1 inch circle on you’re screen. I remember when the only things people talked about was when other games added theater they were copying halo. Now it’s all the ways Halo is copying everything else. What happened!?!?

Think that’s bad? Saw someone complain about the shell caseings.
I think since the old comunity has more to do in life than go to school, weve been replaced by kids who believe CoD:MW1 was the first cod game
If people are currently playing and enjoying the MCC, it’s not nostalgia. It’s them enjoying a game they currently play instead of fantasizing about how awesome the game used to be.
Ironically this thread is more nostalgic as you’re reminiscing on the past state of the forums (fyi they weren’t any different). Seriously just look at the thread title.
See signature. Nonsensical arguments the lot of them.

Funny thing is that a few days ago I was at a bus stop, there was a few teenagers there roughly 13-14. One of them was telling the other one about how horrible 343 is, that Halo 5 ruined Halo, and that he’s an og Halo fan who started on the first game. I was finding it hard to contain my laughter considering that he probably wasn’t even walking yet when Halo CE came out.

Sad to say but this is completely true. Entire factions among the community still want halo to go back to 30 fps for god’s sake. And then they act like the guy from green eggs and ham with halo 5, except that when they try it their premade opionios simply won’t let them think halo 5 is fun. Just watch, the day that halo 5 beta releases we will see tons of threads saying how bad it is from people who player literally 30 seconds of it.
I have said this before, the halo community is at a civil war, like a snake with two heads both trying to go in different directions. But in the end, all the fighting is for the love of the series, they don’t want to see their baby dropped on its head.
The nostalgia that people are referring to will never come back. Some friends of mine who are older said they played the originals but hmcc didn’t feel the same. That gets me thinking no matter how much you play the originals those good feelings you got back then are once in a life time experience, you only got that once you can’t relive it ever again.
I didn’t play the original h2 online because I was to little, but played all halos except assault and wars.
My opinion is that 343i just didn’t put much emphasis on community at all. Forge and Theater were still there, but nothing was new about them, it was just recycled stuff. Halo 2 and Halo 3 had great communities because File Share, Forge, Theater, were all new. They were an effort to bring the fans together and experience the game outside of just playing it. The game is really beautiful and extremely well polished, but the fans were who made Halo awesome to begin with. We were the ones who invented things like Grifball. Red vs Blue was not made by Bungie, but by fans. The new Spectator feature in Halo 5 is a step in the right direction for this kind of thing, but I feel like they’re should be more things that make the community bond. File share should be accessible during loading screens again. There’s just so much that Halo 4 took away from the community, and so they left. They literally stopped playing the game, because the single player is only worth playing so many times. The multiplayer was polished, but didn’t have things to keep people around. That’s why Halo 4’s population is so low.
if u listen to this for 10 mins. You will realize that Halo is not a special game anymore, and it’s just a hybrid indestinguishable ‘’ modern shooter’’.
