Halo: Reach is not a bad game. IMO, its the best Halo game made to date, taking elements from previous games yet staying fresh and new. This just my opinion, tell me yours.
You are just asking for trouble OP.
Just warning ya, this kind of subject always attracts Reach defense force kiddies and people with thumbs (i fall into the latter camp). It turns into an out right brawl sometimes…it’s get real ugly, real fast.
I honestly don’t see why these kinds of threads always turn into a flame war. It’s a matter of personal preference. Full stop. Some people like it, some people don’t, there is no right or wrong.
> I honestly don’t see why these kinds of threads always turn into a flame war. It’s a matter of personal preference. Full stop. Some people like it, some people don’t, there is no right or wrong.
From what i’ve seen on this forum, it’s not about “Reach has flaws and you should stop playing and enjoying it” but rather “There are some legitimate concerns about this game and things about it just don’t work but you rather ignore them and say it’s perfect”.
Now with the former: No point in trying to tell someone to stop enjoying something because you don’t like this or that. That’s not what it is about. If you hate it, fine. If you enjoy it, more props to you.
With the latter: This is where the flames erupt. Whenever someone dislikes Reach, defense force kiddies rage saying “go back to Halo 3!” or “This game is perfect, get the hell off my Waypoint forums!”. This is even more so on threads discussing actual problems with the game and when told this by the same people, it causes hate and very counter productive to discussions. You can like this game, no problem but when it comes time to discuss things that do need to be improved (say MP), you can’t ignore them and pretend everything is A Okay without sounding like a complete jerk.
On the otherhand, those who denounce Reach are not all saints, not even me. Hell, i’ve flamed before but it’s rather pointless. It’s more or less provoked by defense force kiddies who simply choose to not come to the table and have legitimate arguments (simply because they lack one and have been smashed on Anniversary settings one too many times). I digress however, it’s all opinions really and sometimes, i don’t see why both sides get worked up about it to such degrees. Maybe all this time in Skyrim has “chilled me out” sort to speak :P.
I strongly disagree.
There’s a reason Halo Reach’s sales were enormous and record breaking but the online population died 4 times faster than Halo 3’s. It’s multiplayer was terrible and discouraged a lot of players from even wanting to pop their disc in their 360. They effectively got rid of ranked Halo and skill, and also took away a coherent ranking system in place of one that shows how much you’ve played the game, and not how good you are at it.
I have high hopes for 343i in Halo 4, but Bungie royally screwed Reach.
If you compare Reach to any COD/MW or BF then yeah Reach is pretty good and way more fun than those other shooters, BUT compare them to Halo:CE, Halo2, Halo3 then Reach is the worst Halo ever made, I’ll quote iGOTurPistola “Thanks Bungie for making the worst EFF-ING Halo ever made!”, I clearly remember him yelling that at a lan he and 15 other pros were attending.
You like Reach? well thats fine, the Halo community needs every player it can get! but Reach needs to disappear for good in the future and never ever set the base for another Halo (Halo4). Frank O’Connor said that Halo4 will be NOTHING like Reach, that alone is the first step in the right direction.
Something is really wrong when a game sells big because of the name Halo on the cover, then loses almost all its online players and fail to sell DLC and hated by most of its hardcore fan base and most Pros, then concentrating on the COD casual gamers, only failing to do that and actually repelling them to play more COD.
Shockwave mentioned at the Nationals about the Shadow Run team working on Reach during its development and the Bloom coming from the Shadow Run team, that is something I’ve been saying since the Beta. People say that Reach took a different approach from H1/2/3, and it tried to do it own thing, but in reality it copied Shadow Run, COD, Gears of War, and CounterStrike. Reach is anything but its own game when to be honest its the most expensive remake of Shadow Run, hell not even Halo:CEA took this long to remake and cost a lot less too, AND it is a way better Campaign then Reach’s Campaign!
Reach is nothing like Shadowrun.
On topic: Halo 2 was the sweet spot.

The bloom is from ShadowRun!!! The team that made Reach is from ShadowRun, it moves and jumps like ShadowRun…the entire game physics are ShadowRun. Just go to Youtube and see for yourself, the similarities are uncanny!
in other words how is Reach NOT like ShadowRun? besides its COD/Gears/CounterStrike similarities!?
The Spartans were weaker in almost every way to give AA’s their niche.
Easily the most poorly balanced Halo title to date because randomness doesn’t equal balance.

Sage may have made the sandbox, but Reach plays nothing like Shadowrun. Not even close. And lots of games have bloom/spread and spawn loadouts.
Have you even played SR?
SR was hands down the best new competitive FPS this gen, and nobody bought it. Shame on you all. I’d kill for a sequel/spiritual successor, and Reach ain’t it.

HEY! YOU TALK DOWN TO REACH! TEH BEST HALO GAEM EVAR?!?!!?
Lol

your title says it.
reach is not a bad game, but it isnt a good one either.
i mean look at it. what made the previous halos so successful?
in my opinion its the layer of skill the games added. people played halo because it was something new. the games built up a great hardcore player base that loved the games for its variety (skill). now reach comes along and tones down the skill gap to get more players. thing is people loved halo for the skill it involved. now that this is gone the hardcore base doesnt want to play anymore and the “casuals” hop around to gears, cod, bf and what not.
another point: change for the sake of change isnt good. it would have been better if the actually tested the changes they made. its just a great misconception.

Yes I have played it and I’m ashamed to even admit it! Reach is the closest thing to ShadowRun and less like CE. Half Life blew ShadowRun out of the water btw. Funny you say SR was the best FPS and nobody bought it…hummm i wonder why?lol!
yes other games have bloom and LoadOuts but NOT the real Halos. Did you forget that some of the ShadowRun team made Reach? and TAHT’S where the Bloom came from, NOT from Counterstrike(AR is though), NOT COD(loadOuts are), NOT Rainbow6, NOT 007, BUT FROM SHADOWRUN! On the audio logs from bungie before Reach released, and Sage was saying that “they decided to add the bloom FROM SHADOWRUN to add a new element to the game”! those two SR guys had a lot more input than people think, not just the bloom, but the jumping, running, nade throws, AAs, melees, etc… Did you see the National Reach tournament last week? ShockWave himself said “Yeah you can see the Bloom right there which was brought over from SHADOWRUN!”
You just cant say “Reach is not like ShadowRun” and just expect us to go on your word, explain how its NOT ShadowRun. for gods sake Sage himself who works for Bungie and help create the stupid game said that!! are YOU gonna say he himself was WRONG?
Where’s your proof that SR was one of the greatest FPS???
and whats the point in people saying Noble 6 saved Master Chief when the SR guys killed him in the end along with the Halo franchise, Six died for nothing!

This.
This is not an original Halo that the fans like. This might be yout first halo, and that is why you bring this up, and you might not know the real good that the other halos have brought to us.
It’s the best halo game to date huh? Now I respect yours and everyone elses opinions but let us have a debate shall we?
Halo: Reach is bad in my opinion it is the slowest Halo gameplay I have played compared to other Halo games. My 1st opinion to why reach is bad to me is that there is slow gameplay. Armor lock is a factor that slows down gameplay, now I grant you the fact that it is only six seconds but six seconds can make a big change in how long a match is (especially when every one else on your team and the enemy team uses it) let’s see 7x6=42 (If your not using it) adding on almost a whole other minute which can DRASTICALLY slow down game play. Opinion number 2 would be bloom; You see, bloom to me is like communism, it has a great idea and concept but it was not implemented properly. Bloom to people like me thinks it promotes randomness (which it does)the person who spams seems to more or less win MOST of the time, therefore the person who takes their time and doesn’t spam will, to put it so bluntly, get raped. Now yes, with no bloom there is also spamming but it takes skill to force and focus your reticle on your targets head which is where randomness comes in at. You can’t focus your bullets to stay on your targets because they go everywhere randomly. Opinion number 3, AAs. Once again it was not implemented properly, they should of been pick ups on the maps much like Halo 3, who knows maybe people wouldn’t be complaining about them as much and the game would be enjoyable to people like me. Maybe it would of been another break through in gaming revolution!
These are just some of the many opinions in my head that I have typed down. Please keep in mind that I will not flame you I just want to have a nice friendly debate with you along with the chance to really see the reasons on why you like Reach. Thank you for your time.

Good reply!! nailed it!
The Defense of Reach’s only real reason they say its better than other Halos is that it has better graphics and a superior Netcode! Even though its registration is far better than Halo3 its still terrible compared to Halo2.
My bro and I along with some buddies were playing Halo3 this weekend which we haven’t done in a long time, and were having such a “BLAST” playing the only “Real Halo” available on XBL today. We almost forgot just how much “FUN” Halo3 is, and reminded us even more just how terrible Reach is. I play mostly GoW3, my buddies play mostly MW3, but last weekend we all played Halo3 and all started playing and sounding like the old group of trigger happy hot heads were once were!
Reach is lost forever and unrepairable, lets just focus on Halo4.

This will answer all your questions about what Reach really is. And remember these guys are Pros and MLG staff and also Coaches, so non-of this their noobs crap…except for D-Maq he’s a noob!

@D34D D34D D34D- here is more proof of the ShadowRun team and other teams NOT from Bungie being in the development as well as the failure of Reach!
click on the link between the arrows. and speed up the interview to 1:21:00 and listen for about 5-10 minutes. And this is coming from the CEO of MLG.
