Even though it really doesn’t mean that much to me via design I think the flow of words in “Don’t make a girl a promise, if you know you can’t keep it.” works better than the very straight forward version “Don’t make a girl a promise you can’t keep.”
Additionally it could’ve been purposefully designed that way but I still think she should’ve stayed true to her roots.
Yeah that was odd that they didn’t word it the same. Although for me the more annoying incorrect line was in the first level, after the Quick Time Event of throwing the Elite down the elevator shaft, John says "I thought we had a truce with the Covenant. I thought this was really dumb because they only ever had a truce with the Elites. And not even all of them, just the ones that followed the Arbiter.

Well the Elites did have other races allied with them, Bungie simply only had the Elites be friendly so people weren’t confused with two factions of Grunts, Hunters, etc.

Huh… i never really though about that one… speaking of the Arbiter… you think they’ll bring him back in 5?

Yeah but I meant like it was such a small amount that it wouldn’t be accurate to say that the truce was with a lot of the Covenant. I was aware some Grunts etc stuck with the Elites, but I always thought it wasn’t very many, so did a lot also side with the Elites? Because I’m not really sure now hah.

I honestly believe most of the Grunts and Hunters stuck with the Elites. If not, then I imagine Jul roping them into his Covenant would’ve been hard.
Most of the Grunts wanted to stick with their field Commanders, who were Elites, the Hunters did the same for the most part but they are a more neutral species overall.
It was the majority of the Jackals and Drone species that decided to stick it out with the Prophets and Brutes.
Jackals themselves simply did not want to be caught in a rift I believe, since they are more suited as pirates and rogues than they are as warriors. They may of just thought the Brutes, Prophets, would be the victors of the war.
The events to follow most likely changed their minds completely and thus we see a large amount of Jackals join up with Jul due to a promise of treasures and wealth since they are not very big on religion.
As far as Cortana’s line, she said it in a way this time that showed that even she was doubting that she would survive. She knew the hazard of rampancy and how deadly it was to AI and that John alone could not save her this time…

In the last two levels of Halo 3, we didn’t fight any Covenant at all because the fight with them was over. John knew this at the time; That’s why he thought there was a truce.
As for the Grunts and Hunters working with the Elites during the Great Schism, Bungie said that was for gameplay reason. It was not a canon reason. They just thought it’d be cool to have Hunters working with the player, instead of trying to kill them.
I can give you the source for that if you want. I’m just too lazy right now to not get out of this chair, lol.
OT: I like the way Cortana said it in Halo 4. She knew this time John couldn’t save her.
So they changed the visual look of every species bar humans AGAIN, made forward unto dawn magically change design in four years, as well as updating all it’s logos ect AND put Mark 7 armour in the prologue before it was even supposed to have been built.
