Infection was fun, grifball was alright. But to be honest, I’m not sure I want them back in matchmaking. (In Custom games, sure). While it is fun to hang out there at 1AM, these playlists more or less killed H3 matchmaking at the end because everyone was playing Griffball instead of playing Halo. The same happened in the later games with Infection, taking a major chunk of the population. I have no statistics to back it up, but by experience, I can tell at least 50% of the pop remaining back then was playing one of those.
Not sure I want H5 suffering this syndrome. (And please don’t tell me people will quit anyway if they can’t play Infection and Griffball. I’d rather play actual Halo with the rest of the players.
Halo should just have what a majority of people want. I don’t know if that’s arena or grifball but whatever the majority is. I doubt it’s the mlg people.
Gonna have to disagree. Regardless of how I feel about those game types, it’s kind of silly to do away with gametypes if they actually are what 50% of players want to play.
Yeah that does makes sense. It’s just sad that the majority of players are gonna be playing a random variant of the game most of the time instead of playing the game the way its meant to be played mostly. I know a -Yoink- ton of players used to play Halo just for that… I think it’s cool as a sidekick is all.

now if there was MLG infection and grifball then hells yes
of course, infection is a custom game only playlist and grifball is something now and then in a weekend playlist. I imagine they will give us grab hammers and the assault game type eventually bringing grifball back once again.

Exactly.

There’s no way that Halo is “meant to be played.” That’s an illogical mindset as Halo is very much a sandbox game compared to other FPS titles. Players should be able to play whatever, and however they want without being ridiculed or told that they’re wrong.
For me, adding infection is a good thing, that way you don’t have to play with teams that don’t want to play mlg and do bad in game, because they’ll be playing what they really like
These casual gametypes are where all the non-competitive players go. That is a decent chunk of the fanbase. The lack of these gametypes are probably a reason halo 5 is getting lots of hate.
Someone who loves casual halo has no idea how competitive halo works expects it to play similar to casual gametypes. This is not true and so to them “That is not Halo”. I am either ranting on about bullcrap or making a lot of sense right now.

I ONLY played halo for infection I didn’t give 2 -Yoink- and a -Yoink- for matchmaking and saying they shouldn’t bring those modes back well hell they may as well not put forge back in either
the tryhards, sweaty palm players aren’t going to play infection or grifball. Simply because playing those gametypes can completely tank your k/d. And lets face it, that is how those types find validation in their lives.
Not sure where you’re getting your ideas about the populations. Every h3 playlist had a really good population until reach came out. Even after that lone wolves, slayer, snipers, and mlg had plenty of people and it was easy to get matches. The trend during reach and h4 was more towards btb because armor abilities/ordinances and bad maps made normal slayer/objective horrible. infection/griffball barely affect the mlg/slayer/obj/snipers playlists, they mostly pull from the population that would be in big team. I would assume 343 have not added them to h5 yet because they don’t want to pull players from warzone. The avid arena fans don’t just up and decide to switch to casual playlists. Some people would say that the halo community’s ability to consistently increase variety and innovate is what made the community so great in the first place.
