Not on Radar while walking (needs fixed)

This is one of the most broken things in a social playlist. It encourages you to not sprint and camp around corners with power weapons. Why 343i changed the radar mechanic like this is beyond my comprehension but it is by far the most annoying thing i’ve come across. Enemies just walk up to you (within radar range) when you’re fighting someone else and you have no way to know where they are until it’s to late. I really hope this gets addressed.

Radar was fine how it was in every halo especially for social.

I have to admit the radar seems almost useless = it’s acts more like a very faulty motion detector but the audio is very improved, in my stereo headsets, I can pick out if someone is coming from behind me or not, and an idea of their location, when they are sprinting. The audio was most helpful in Arena Slayer PVP.

That’s the entire point.

Wait, what?
How? Why? You can literally move around the map at a decent pace now without appearing as a bonfire on everbody’s radar.
If anything, this encourages map movement more than ever before.

You already answered it yourself: Sprint.
This is just the latest try to balance sprint in Halo.
There wouldn’t have been a need for this change if 343 hadn’t tried for the last decade to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Sprint, in its current form, is hardly faster than the base movement speed. Having sprint appear on radar while base movement speed does not is overkill.

i agree 100% the base movement speed is already fast so not being on radar is literally ridiculous when sprinting. Like they nerfed sprint, don’t make the whole game
annoying now because of it.

not being able to hear an enemy come up behind you combined with them not showing up on radar at standard movement speed is bad for my health

The footsteps are so hard to hear and with how fast the sidekick melts away your health it is legit impossible to respond to it if someone sneaks up on you.

The bottom line up front is that I respectfully disagree with your opinion.

It encourages you not to sprint, this is intentional and hails back to Halo CE, 2, 3 and ODST. Sprint is an option, enables slide but adds little in the way of overall player speed. You also do not appear on radar in any Halo game if crouched / crouch walking; with or without a power weapon.

Ppl just walking up to you when you’re fighting someone, is part of the game. Additionally, if they fire at you - they immediately appear on the radar. With limited exception, this is no different to being assassinated in previous Halo titles. You cannot direct your attention to your radar and an engaged enemy at the same time and so you always run that risk when initiating the dance.

Overall I think the movement mechanics and the way they interact with the radar land the perfect balance between classic halo play for veterans, while permitting advanced movements expected of modern shooters.

This is going to be a hot take, but personally, I wish they would remove radar entirely and join all modern shooters that rely on sound to locate enemys.

Disagreeing is totally fine but classic radar was way more balanced than it is now.

It does discourage to sprint because sprint is heavily nerfed and the speed really isn’t that much drastic from walking. So why would i sprint/slide and give up my position when i can just walk and catch someone by surprise to kill them with no negative consequences other than not moving faster. All engagements are base movement speeds while in a fight. Also the whole “You cannot direct your attention to your radar and an engaged enemy at the same time and so you always run that risk when initiating the dance” is wrong. I would have easily seen majority of those ppl coming up to me if they are walking in any other game besides this one even while in a fight as long as im not zoomed in. They can literally walk (base movement speed) right up to mid fight and melee you without giving away their position on radar at all. ← If you don’t find that broken then idk what to tell you.

> Overall I think the movement mechanics and the way they interact with the radar land the perfect balance between classic halo play for veterans, while permitting advanced movements expected of modern shooters.

This is halo, not a modern shooter (like cod, bf or anything else). It needs to be halo and what makes halo…HALO!! The radar is literally one of the biggest staples that makes halo what it is. Change it drastically just makes the game not play or feel like halo in a social setting.

Oh the last thing about not appearing on radar with or without power weapons while crouching is literally the whole point of crouching. You give up your speed so that you can be stealthy. The fact that you think base movement speed not showing up on radar like classic halo games is “expected of modern shooters” is mind blowing to me.

then they need to make the footsteps way louder in this game

Yep, I forgot to add that. They would have to increase footsteps significantly. I would rather use my ears, then take my eyes off the screen.

People don’t realize this will be the most hardcore Halo to date. Halo 5 was the ultimate casual game outside of advanced maneuvers. This game is close to CS GO. You can’t play this game like you played other Halos. It took me awhile to realize that.

I like this for competitive playlists but not for social.

“You can literally move around at a decent pace” With the way the spawns are now, the rules of engagment are now unknown since you could be fighting an enemy but another was right behind you the entire time. OR an enemy was using Active Camo roaming the map like Danny Phantom with their teammate and the one whose in sight runs youll never know the active camo person was there. Hell you could spawn near by the enemy team and NOT KNOW until its too late. And good luck trying to hold down a zone to gain some sort of map control. I caught one player lacking by the BR spawn on Recharge and smacked him upside the head. Honest to god, I didnt know how to feel about that in the moment. AND he was shooting at someone so good luck hearing me. (Although the sound audio in it is still good)

Fans want halo, I and many other don’t want halo to play like CS:GO. I realized that pretty quick that it plays like halo mixed with counter strike/valerant but that’s not halo. Its crazy how the radar can actually change the game and make it play so much different.

I’m all for it if its in its own playlist then go for it but don’t make the base game play like something its not supposed to.

And what modern shooter has had good audio sound with footsteps to locate enemies. Not fortnite. Not CoD, and damn sure not Apex Legends. Because the footsteps in those games? Are GOD AWEFUL. Splitgate though does have good audio BUT IT ALSO has a radar system that is legit like Classic Halo.

I am just stating it went that direction slightly. Of course it’s not going to be CS GO or Valorant. This is what classic fans wanted during the Halo 2/Halo 3 days with walking.

I’d argue Halo 5 has been the sweatiest Halo iteration yet. I haven’t played CS GO in a minute but what makes you say that? Last time I played you bought weapons at the beginning of every round, had one life, and most matches revolved around planting a bomb. 2 of those don’t happen in any main stream Halo games (AFAIK the one life thing wasn’t really added until competitive arenas in H5) and the third only happens in certain playlists.

At a high level everything will have to be far more tactical. Also aiming in Halo 5 felt like the easiest in all of the series outside of the movement skill ceiling.
