Not Nearly Enough Maps

What is up with the low map count? 10 is so minimal (9 according to Bluejay who points out that launchsite is never used) and really sad especially when 2-3 are BTB which i basically never play. It gets boring really fast they should know this and its a top 2 reason why ive barely played even though i enjoy the gameplay in infinite

At the very least i hope they are planning to add 5-10 more once the “full game” launches but i really doubt it. They’re probably gonna end up adding 1-2 per month (if that) which wont be enough. If there were 20-25 maps right now I would say its in a good spot.

Btw im not saying they should add in all new maps either that would be a lot of work. But put in old maps from previous halos or choose from the ton of forge maps that have been created over the years. Getting to 30 maps would be easy

They’ve stated multiple times that what we are playing now is what the game will look like all season 1. No more maps or modes

Wow then its even worse than i thought. Obviously its f2p but that is still unacceptable given how easy it would be to add in remastered maps or maps created in the past by the community

Launchsite in my opinion doesn’t really count because its not used in anything, so I only count 9 maps.

BTB maps probably take far more time than they used to, hence why we only see 3 of them at launch. So they’ll slowly add maps in to the rotation, but we won’t really see a lot until after Forge comes out, Forge (as it always has) carries Halo titles in terms of map creation.

i think thats better to have a low map count and have the maps played than have a high number of maps that half are usually never played

and i dont think easy is the right word here even remastering a map takes time
plus rebalencing and redesing cuz of grapel shot

I highly doubt any of the BTB maps in past Halos would suffice for Infinite, not to mention that porting process takes a long time and although Halo 5’s Warzone maps might be possible, aside from that I would be very skeptical of them remaking anything for BTB.

Halo 4 had no (well, except for Haven) good 4v4 maps, Halo 5 had a handful and just remaking them would be boring considering how many years people spent playing on them.

Edit: they may eventually do remakes, but those will be much later on in Infinite’s lifespan I believe.

I strongly disagree i always prefer more variety up to a reasonable limit. Yes 50-60 maps would be too much for example but they are way too extreme on the low end here. It just gets boring so quickly, and if they have more maps eventually you would get to play on all of them.

Also its a nice feeling to play for a while and not see all the maps it’ll keep people coming back for more. Plus if they add in a bunch then the ones that people dont like can be removed or put lower in priority in rotation. With only 9-10 maps now, they cant even afford to do that because then the problem of staleness would only get even worse

Halo 3 only had 11 maps at launch, and reach launched with 8 and a few forge world maps. This is pretty standard for Halo MP launch content.

Nah bruh, Halo 3 was perfect in every single way, whereas Halo 4/5/Reach/whatever game I didn’t start playing Halo on is trash.

honestly though, I think that 343i should’ve/could’ve done more. Its important to note that Halo Infinite had 6 years to develop maps, whereas Halo 3/Reach only had like 3, so we waited far longer and, in the end, they just gave us less content for it.

Just because something is standard for the past doesnt mean it’s good or ok. It just means you’ve gotten used to lack of content so now you accept it. But its not ok, especially when you compare to the most recent game halo 5 which it should be compared to because we need to see improvement or at least parity with the previous title. That game had 18 at launch and some of them were really big warzone maps which take even longer to make

At the very least infinite should have much content as halo 5 did, but no instead they’ve gone backwards and given us less. Not good

Yes great point. They’ve had such a long time to make this game that its very baffling how such little map content was produced in that time.

Bigger doesn’t necessarily mean that much longer to develop when the bases are just copy and pasted for each one.

Halo 5 had 3 warzone maps, the warzone assault maps had different names but were the exact same layout with sections walled off. Then it had 8 arena maps, with 2 forge maps. Of those 8 maps, 2 were remixes. Then 5 breakout maps, essentially forge maps.

In terms of development time, there really isn’t that much difference between the amount of map launch content in Infinite and 5.

The fact we’ve had 6 years between Halo games doesn’t mean 343 have been in active development for 6 years. Previous Halo games have had 3 years between each release, but pre-production for the next games started before the previous one had released. After Halo 5 343 likely had to completely scrap the existing work they’d done on whatever Halo 6 would’ve been, pushing back the release. Add Covid delays, some bigger engine changes and changes in management and I can easily see how what is normally a 4 year dev cycle (started a year before the previous game is released) could stretch to longer than 5.

I also think its likely that 343 are keeping some content back to cushion the pressure on the live team, if they aren’t a bit ahead in content production they could easily end up in a cycle of never ending crunch to keep up with demand. I imagine they also didn’t prioritise map development immediately after the year delay last year because they at that point anticipated launching with forge, and a couple of forge maps bulking out the roster.

Right so it had 18 maps at launch. Thats a lot more than what we have in infinite. Whether it’s remixed/forged/remastered I don’t care as much as i do about the actual number. You don’t know for sure about development time only they do. But what i do know for sure is that 18 is a lot better than 9 (if we exclude the one that apparently isn’t used for anything for some reason).

And even if it did take the same time, then they should have spend it differently. Fewer original maps, more remakes/forge maps to get the number up to around 20. This was a major mistake for them and the game greatly suffers because of it

I agree. Really hoping we see more maps at launch. Say what you will about gameplay, progression, monetization - lack of maps will actually kill this game if they don’t release more consistently.

Really disappointed we don’t have more considering the delay.

Could you link this? I was not aware of this and that would be a disaster because the season is pretty long.

I don’t think you understand what happened here.

It’s a shame launch site isnt getting any more love. Though the map isnt great. It’s the closest thing we’ve gotten to asymmetrical maps like zanzibar and high ground since halo 3. I really hope they make a push for some of these. I miss 5 plots gametype and 1 flag/bomb. I did play a 1 flag on launch site tho. That wasnt bad

No instead we get “events” aka cash shop updates that time gate modes that should be there all the time.
