Not looking forward to this new E-sports show.

Just heard about the new Halo 5 e-sports reality tv show, while my opinion could change, I’m currently very dissapointed and I’m not looking forward to it. I’m honestly confused as to why they’d do this, while some fans would appreciate this, I feel like this would get mixed opinions at best. Share
your thoughts with me, hey, maybe I’m wrong.

Youre entitled to your opinion on this but ive got to agree. Doesnt sound interesting.
Those who care about the competitive scene dont need this and didnt ask for it,
Those who dont (as a whole) have no need or want for it

It might get some people into it and into halo but thats a very niche group.
Personally id prefer they put all that effort into making sure h6 is the first 343 main installment that is a stand alone and easily understandable story.

I agree with you. I don’t really care about eSports to begin with so yeah I agree with you IMHO I hate reality TV shows.

By “Halo e-sports reality TV” does that mean that a pro will be followed everywhere by cameras?

A “You join us live as we watch Halo legend Lethul eat his breakfast” kind of thing?

Didn’t realise there was a show until I read this thread lol. I won’t watch it tbh. It’s not my thing. It makes me wonder though, are the powers that be really that out of touch with the fanbase ? I don’t know one Halo player that would find that of interest. Maybe I’m out of touch lol.

What? anyone have a link to a story of this.

I don’t have an interest in E sports but the massive benefits it will have for the franchise cant be ignored, Halo has always been E sports heavy until Reach and 4 and a bit of positive media on TV of all things might just heal some of Halos wounds.

  • E sports fans get more love which should make up for Reach and 4 - Halo would get good media coverage which it really needs - Non Halo fans might watch it and be tempted to play which could increase the playerbase - 343 wouldn’t be the ones wasting resources into it so no worries there - Halo would have increased brand recognition.
I think we shouldn’t be critical until it launches, peoples own personal bias towards E sports shouldn’t negatively hurt this project.

Yeah something like that which makes me dislike reality TV shows and it’ll probably tell us how they warm up

At best it will show the training and dedication required to prepare for and win these matches.

At worst it will be edited and half scripted for extra drama and tension to gain more views.

Now to me, one sounds like a documentary, the other sounds like reality TV.

There are quite a few articles about this right now, but here is one Pilgrim, 343 Industries Developing Halo ESports Series.

It looks like I will be in the minority on this one when I say I look forward to this. I am a fan of these “reality” competitions. The Ultimate Fighter made me an MMA fan. This is the future of the franchise. I will try to find the article where Bonnie Ross talked about making the Halo franchise as big as Star Wars, and she was referring to their marketing strategy. This will just help bring in that market.

ill join you in the “looking forward” to it group. It certainly cant harm the franchise, and might attract a lot of new/old players.

I doubt it, the people that care about e-sports don’t need it and the people who don’t care don’t want it

How do they know they don’t want it if they’ve never seen it? This is more about bringing in people who don’t know anything about the scene. I didn’t know I would like the UFC until I saw the finale of the first Ultimate Fighter. After that I bought every match for years and went to Vegas to watch a fight. I don’t see anything wrong with trying to be in new fans, and possibly legitimize pro gaming.

The severe lack of elites killing Spartans is worrying for me too. You know what’d solve that? A bunch of elites killing Spartans.

I’m not saying no one will watch it, I’m saying few people will, it just isn’t really something most halo players want

Agreed, especially with h5s issues. Why worry about a competitive game with server issues/lag, Spartan abilities, ghost melee, bad weapon setups to the maps, ect ect. There’s a reason halo is small compared to everything else out there right now, cuz it’s -Yoink- settings hold it back and can’t get viewship.

that’s not what I meant at all, I just don’t think anyone’s interested in it, not that halo 5 is “bad” which it isn’t at all

Regardless of what you said, I know why halo is “bad” in the scene, hence why no ones interested. Seriously, look up the bigger games that pull in MILLIONS! And halo gets lucky to pull in maybe 50k or more.

why not say why it’s not interesting if “bad” isn’t a reason. Try to leave out personal judgement and look at it from an audience perspective.

Same could be said for all aspects of Halo to be honest.
