343i doesn’t get it. One of the reasons Halo’s story was so good is that MC was always hidden. We didn’t know who he was.
Some guy in armor that could be anyone of us. Now you bring in this Locke guy, that we all know who he is, and he’s boring. I’ll just play TMCC until something better comes along. But when you guys replace MC with this guy, I’m out. NOT interested in his story.
Just my 2 cents.
Master Chief has never been you and never will be. Master Chief is a title not his name. In Halo we play as John not a vessel for the player to insert themselves into. John is his own unique character with a whole backstory and history. Please learn the difference.

Thank you.
Seems like you’re mistakening mc with noble six

Don’t assume I haven’t read everything about Halo, I have.
Don’t think for a second that Bungie didn’t intentionally hide MC in all the games. Of course they did. My problem is with Locke. He is uninteresting.
Yes, I would’ve preferred Donald Duck to hunt down the Chief.
Okay, in all seriousness, I think he has potential. Always be open to new characters. The reason he’s here is to ‘bring Chief back’ from going AWOL. Chief has always been hidden, yes, but no new character has ever changed that fact. ‘Some guy in armor that could be anyone of us’. Except we know who Chief is. It’s not like Noble Six or the Rookie from ODST, where they’re modeled to be our persona in the video game world, we know who Chief is, we know his background story.

That is your opinion. Locke is looking like a very interesting character "With your life would you only create death or with your death would you create life? That is my question to you Commander Locke how will you die and for what? " Randal This statement is setting Locke up to question his place within ONI and his life. Locke is going to be in the morally grey and that will make him a very intriguing character. You have issues with John becoming his own character not Locke.
This is all my opinion, your results may vary, Locke is too boring for me, too vanilla ( a dark vanilla and impossibly smooth skinned) Chief is a man of few words but when he talks i want to listen, When Locke talks i immediately want him to shut the F up. I think the only way I might like Locke is if we somehow find he is related to SGT. Johnson
I get it. I spent the last couple hours reading about Locke. I just don’t find him interesting. You guys do. That’s cool.

Sgt. Johnson’s son would be cool!!!
I think Locke seems great, however I still like the idea of creating your own Spartan.
Read the books. Only Johns face as an adult is unknown. There was never any mystical about him after Halo: The Fall of Reach and that’s a very old book

Please stop with this. Making Locke sergeant Johnson’s son would do nothing for his character. Just because Locke is black and so is Johnson does not mean they are related. Locke’s home planet Jericho VII was destroyed by the Covenant and became an orphan. He then went on to become a freelance tracker and assassin before joining ONI. That is far more interesting than him being Johnson’s son.

Goodness, slow down turbo. Just one man’s opinion brother.
Why is this community so hostile to any and all new characters with any significant development?
Complaining about Locke being vanilla? Really? If you haven’t read the books, the pre-H4 MC is as bland as shooter protagonists get!

A very ignorant one at that. It is a fact that Locke is not related to Johnson in anyway. It is also kind of racist to assume that all black characters are related only because they are black.

Oh my… Get over yourself there my friend. You are obviously more knowledgeable in the Halo universe, which i commend you for. Honestly though you need to get off your high horse, just because someone knows less then you in a subject, doesn’t mean you should treat them as an inferior person. I’m not even going to get into the racist comment. Good luck in real life if you think like that, at all times.

have you watched any of the nightfall episodes?
The idea of the Master chief was supposed to be a blank canvas for the player to project himself onto was completely stupid with the way that they presented him. He had a name, a backstory, a voice, and a personality completely distinct from mine. The only indication that he was supposed to be a blank slate for myself to project onto, was that I didn’t know what his face look like as an adult. Like a lot of the things that Bungie did and still do with Destiny, the attempt to make the Master chief a simple blank canvas for us, was just a half -Yoinked!- attempt to hide the fact that they couldn’t write an interesting character.
343 industries are just making the master chief an actual human being now. And as for Locke? He’s a morally gray and questionable individual, with ulterior motives, an internal conflicts with the people he works for. By default is more interesting than the master chief from the original games. He was a rogue freelance mercenary who is picked up by the office of Naval intelligence, turned into a Spartan, and told to hunt down the master chief for as of yet unknown reason.
Jameson locke currently has more mystery about him then the master chief ever did. As for finding him boring, what precisely do we really have to go off of? We have a short 90 minute film, and a couple of lines of dialogue from halo two anniversary. The master chief has had 12 years to become a character, jameson Locke has barely had two hours. I would say it’s a bit too early to make a call whether or not he will be interesting, but given that he’s already got more backstory and more intrigue surrounding him, with more moral conflicts, than John, I would say shaping up to be a pretty good contender for one of the best POV characters in the series.

All of them.
