Not having a Beta would be an insult

I don’t think it’s right to do what 343 did with Halo 4, applying new updates every couple of months like it’s no big deal. When I buy a game, I expect it to be complete, not wait during a painful 7 months of updating. Had I known Halo 4 had the flaws it had on release, I would have waited to buy it. It was my own fault thinking that the game was complete, but 343 sure did make the game look good in the trailers didn’t they?

But seriously, 7 freaking months? Don’t you guys have an in studio testing team? So many problems could have been identified had their been a Halo 4 beta.

How important is a beta to you guys? I’d like to be confident of my day 1 purchase knowing I played a beta version of the game and any major problems were fixed. (DMR, Boltshot, No red X, etc)

Oh and let’s say there is a beta, I really hope things that are in the Beta make it to the final game. I don’t understand how something that works good gets taken out. Invasion on the Reach beta was amazing, longswords would fly over and blow up the elites if the spartan’s won. There were 3 shades of green for the spartan’s and 3 shades of purple for the elites. That was awesome. And don’t kill guns like with what happened to the Plasma Repeater. It was useless in the final game.

I would love a Beta. My only Halo beta was Reach, and that was friggin’ awesome. I know most people play beta’s to give info to the devs, but honestly I could care less about that I just want to get my hands on the game. Kind of like a two week demo that gets you hyped up for the release of the game. But yeah I agree with you, public beta’s are always a good idea.

They have confirmed and stated DOZENS of times, there will be no beta. They will have ALPHA testing done many of the top players and other known members in the Halo community.

If we were to get a beta for Halo 5, we’ll be talking about an extra 4-6 months of delay on the game (NO EVEN INCLUDING CHANGES)

I’d rather get a complete game and wait instead of sitting through updates. 4 to 6 months? Big deal. The game is already coming in late 2014 so 2 years isn’t even that bad. 2 1/2 years would be less then normal wait anyway

If there isn’t a beta there’s a 90% chance of me not buying the game. I was concerned that 343i wasn’t having a beta for Halo 4, but just assumed they wanted to avoid bad feedback like what happened to certain weapons after the Reach Beta. Boy, was I wrong they just didn’t want anyone to realize what they had done to Halo.

Don’t forget about the Focus Rifle and Plasma Launcher! They actually did their roles as Sniper rifle and Anti-Vehicular weapon extremely well in the Beta. So many things were better in the Reach Beta, it pisses me off that they changed some of the things. Invasion colors were awesome and immersed you into the game, there’s no explanation for that change.

Yeah I used to complain so much in the bungie forums about invasion colors. Why take them out? Pretty stupid if you ask me. The magnum was also better. Betas are always better I guess lol. Stupid how things get worse when you actually buy the game

Didn’t you know you’d been playing a beta for the last 7 months?

Where are you getting this from? I’ve heard nothing about this. They said Halo 4 wouldn’t have a Beta, but they haven’t even said anything about Halo 5 yet. They haven’t even announced the name of the game, why would they tell us there’s not going to be a Beta? I’m pretty sure you’re making this up.

I’d rather have the game delayed 4-6 months than have a repeat of Halo 4. The stuff they spent the first 3 or 4 months fixing could’ve been caught a lot earlier if they had a Beta.

No beta.

He is making it up. They’ve said NOTHING regarding Beta testing for the new Halo game. Nothing.

My guess is he’s got it mixed up with Halo 4. Not to mention, I don’t care what anyone says, after Halo 4 we need a Beta.

343 are competent people, but I feel like they need a little help.

Please name me 2-3 online games that have gone through a beta that still don’t go through the process to which you don’t want happening.

<mark>Beta’s are not for game balancing or glitch finding, betas are for stress testing code.</mark>

But do I want to beta test the next Halo?? Duh!!!

It’s funny. I always think that when people request a beta, they’ll make up anything they can off the top of their head not because they want to help make the game better, they just want to play the game early and for free.

> No beta.

No beta as in you don’t want a beta or no beta as in there isn’t going to be one.

If the former, why not and if the latter, source?

I think they should have a beta. AT LEAST you could not say that 343i did not care/try/learn.

Halo 2 had this problem too, it isn’t exclusive to Halo 4

Depends, it will most likely be multiplayer only and I hate multiplayer with a passion so it doesn’t bother me, I’d like to test a SpOps level so we don’t have any enemies being stuck outside the map, which was a problem in Halo 4

If the game were to take an extra 4-6 months to be released, but ended up being a lot more polished, balanced and overall complete, I can’t say that I would complain at all.

And I doubt public betas extend the development cycle of a game by 4-6 months anyway. If anything, we might be looking at a month or two, tops.

> <mark>Beta’s are not for game balancing or glitch finding, betas are for stress testing code.</mark>

This. Game Betas are not to tell them what you like and don’t like. They are only to test the netcode. That said, a beta for Halo 4 to test the netcode may have done wonders. Since they are going to dedicated servers, a beta would be a good idea. Make sure it’s working properly.

Beat me to it.

You guys are getting just a little confused here.

Beta’s can AND do give developers an early idea of what weapon balancing changes the game might benefit from, based on fan feedback.

However, more significant changes like taking out ordnance drops, would not be the purpose of a Beta.
