NOT GAMES AS A SERVICE!!!

Hope Halo 6 is not games as a service which requires an internet connection all the time to play. Learned the hard way why online always is a bad idea with last Fridays XBOX LIVE OUTAGE. I couldn’t even log into any of my games without xbox login. Vary bad experience. And if you play offline, most multi player futures are locked. Heck, GoW 5 doesn’t allow you to play offline, as far as I know. Just terrible business practice. We should be able to play any games we want offline and any game modes vs bots or LAN or System Link! Hope you can also earn XP or credit in offline at a fair rate also!

Pretty sure that infinite will have lan support

Gears 5 allows you to play the campaign offline, as does Halo 5. I expect Halo Infinite to be similar.

Well, Infinite is coming to the next gen Xbox too so there is a chance that there will be less forced online connectivity aspects, unless MS decides to mess up again with their console development.
Though I doubt anyone would be that dense after the hit the sales took with Xbox one.

At least they even joked about the Xbox one incident which pretty much indicates they likely wont do the same thing again with their platform.

At least not until another “Genius Revolutionary” CEO or whatever takes the reins.

Games as a service just means the game will be supported post launch, doesn’t mean it has to be online only. I assume you’ll be able to play campaign offline unless they go some weird MMO route like Destiny. LAN has been confirmed so you’ll be able to play customs offline.

Halo Infinite will have splitscreen, so I do not see why you would need to be online.

If it’s also launching with Game Pass / Ultimate it will require an online connection. Also, having splitscreen does not guarantee offline. I have Gears 5 on disc, I can play only the campaign offline. I have a feeling Halo Infinite will be the same. Think of things that have been said “we want to be able to change things quickly” or something like that. I’m always hopeful every one gets what they want. However, I think offline play will be very limited at best, like Halo 5 and Gears 5. Hope I’m wrong.

We can all hope, but if the same mistake is made (especially with that Stadia being a thing) I can’t say I would be all that surprised. Very upset yes but surprised no. This last console generation was not 2 steps back and 1 step forward, it was 200 steps backwards and 1 step off to the side.

What does launching with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate have to do with requiring an online connection? You are not obligated to get the game with XGPU.

No you’re not obligated, but many will if it’s a day one Game Pass title, and that requires an online connection. I hope you all get your wish, but I think it will be campaign only offline, and everthing else online. It’s over a year away, many things can change.

That would be a silly move on their part.

I expect more rather than less online integration to continue to envelop the gaming industry in the next gen, despite the negative attitude and perspective most of us long-time gamers have on it.

This still shouldn’t mean that the campaign is unplayable without a connection (that would be rather extreme if the game doesn’t feature some sort of MMO/Live world type of setup, and I won’t believe Infinite ought to).

But I think expecting for Infinite to completely dodge the Games as a Service profit model is extraordinarily optimistic bordering on the point of irrational. There are going to be microtransactions (although not “random loot boxes,” apparently, as if there aren’t other ways to grievously abuse implementing MT’s) and I’m sure there will additionally be other paid DLC shoved in.

All of this is regrettable, but it’s the state of AAA game development today, so it at least doesn’t have to be especially egregious compared to EA’s dumpster fire in-game, real-world-currency economies. If 343i can make Infinite a game that can be played and enjoyed reasonably offline, I think most players will be able to forgive occasional online annoyances.

I agree with this. I’ll be really annoyed if Campaign is the only thing we’re able to play offline.

Making it so that Campaign is the only available option offline.

They did it with Halo 5, they did it with Gears 5. I see Halo Infinite being similar, especially if it’s Game Pass title. I don’t like the idea as much as the next person. It’s the way things seem to be going.

They did it with Halo 5: Guardians, and they got a lot of backlash for it.

I know. I’m not disagreeing. However, with the what we’ve seen and read, the comment “we want to change things quickly”, the job ads for monetisation and experience with player psychology, games as a service rumours etc, I see it being more online. I don’t care to be honest, I cannot remember the last time I played without an online connection. I’m not selfish or self centred though, I always hope everyone gets their wish. I just feel those hoping for an extensive offline experience in Halo Infinite are going to be disappointed. I hope I’m wrong, and things can change considering the game is over a year away.

I hope you’re wrong, too, because I do not always have an online connection. Playing splitscreen/LAN games offline has always been a huge part of what makes Halo what it is to so many fans.
