Where did Halo 3 go wrong with the Race Playlist? It only had Rocket Race. At least, thats all I can remember, since I stopped playing when MW2 came out (shame on me) and when the new map pack came out with ODST, I never looked back.
I hope to see it return in Halo 4, under the Community section, right under Grifball, not stuck in Action Sack where it has no business being! This time, hopefully, 343 will have picked up a few things from the various leagues and communities that have spawned on Youtube and other sites since Halo 3 and Reach. I want to know what is wrong with providing players the option to choose between standard race game types on a “standard” (relatively realistic) race track, rocket race/VIP/hog race variants on likewise maps, and a third option of some sort (MX/SX or terrain? or dare I say round by round races?) I understand that the racing community is not as big as some of the other playlists, but it’d be nice to have a place to take my party for a race every now and then without having to scan through hundreds of maps just to make a good selection. Make a forge fest out of it, give free crap away to contest winners, I don’t care, just make me a race playlists so I can have my GAME WITHIN A GAME again, and not just this hog race junk.
At the very least, I hope 343 hasnt forgotten, or given up on the Halo racing community. The vehicles have always been one of the greatest features in the Halo franchise, and in particular it is a shame to see the mongoose’s full potential confined to custom games only. A MM Race Playlist would give players a chance to expand their racing network. Is it really too much to ask for a Grand Prix Playlist, an MX/SX/Terrain/City (AKA: short tracks) Playlist, and a 3rd, mixed variant playlist? I think with the right combination of maps, game types, and party limit sizes, a varied selection of Race Playlists could have the potential to succeed in growing a following worthy of 343’s and Halo Waypoint’s attention. [key words, trolls: “think, could, potential.”]
Maybe the guys at Rooster Teeth could do commentary at MLG Tournaments for the Race qualifiers? I mean, they gotta get tired of playing Horse eventually, right?
