Not a single Covenant Map in the game?

Alright, now this is starting to get a little ridiculous.

It was one thing to remove Elites from multiplayer, entirely understandable even though widely disliked.

But Halo 4, INCLUDING MAP PACKS, doesn’t have a single Covenant themed map in the entire game. And that really annoys the hell out of me.

Some of the greatest maps the franchise has ever seen have been Covenant themed, Damnation, Chill Out, Midship, Gemini, Assembly, and Zealot were amazing Covenant-style maps. Midship even got an extremely successful remake in Heretic in Halo 3, instantly being one of the best maps in the game, And Damnation was remade in Halo Reach. The Covenant style makes a perfect aesthetic for very small, round, symmetrical 1v1-4v4 environments, in both Slayer and Objective.

Following the confirmed maps that will ship with the game:

Abandon - UNSC
Adrift - UNSC
Complex - UNSC
Errosion - UNSC
Exile - UNSC
Haven - Forerunner
Impact - UNSC
Longbow - UNSC
Meltdown - Forerunner
Ragnarok - Forerunner
Ravine - Forerunner
Solace - Forerunner
Vortex - Forerunner

And now the map pack maps: (source Youtube)

Crimson:
Wreckage - UNSC/Forerunner
Harvest - UNSC
Shatter - UNSC

Majestic:
Landfall - UNSC
Monolith - Forerunner
Skyline - UNSC

Castle:
Daybreak - UNSC
Outcast - Natural
Perdition - Unclear, either UNSC or Forerunner

I honestly think it is a mistake not to include at least one small, symmetrical Covie map in the game, removing Elites from multiplayer was perfectly understandable, but I am really starting to feel like 343i just wants to drive Elite fan community away from continuing to like and play the Halo franchise completely, the only thing we actually have going for us in Halo 4 is the ability to spawn with Carbines or Storm Rifles.

There’s no covenant setting in Halo 4, so the designers wouldn’t create a new pallet for that. Maybe in a DLC.

Your point?

You mad, bro?

I’d best be able to Forge Covenant then! I like the purple design.

Shatter looks really cool though dat electric volcanoe so can’t wait for that

> There’s no covenant setting in Halo 4, so the designers wouldn’t create a new pallet for that. Maybe in a DLC.

You’re telling me that during the entire Campaign and Spartan Ops stories, you never once attack a Storm ground base on Requiem?

And plenty of these UNSC themed maps don’t look like anywhere we will ever see in Campaign/Spartan Ops. Such as Harvest’s wheat fields, or Shatter’s cave, Landfall’s harbour etc. Heck, Halo 3’s Longbow and Orbital maps had completely new Palettes created for them, as well as Halo Reach’s High Noon, and Prisoner.

It just plain makes no sense. Some of the most popular competitive maps in the series have been Covenant. MLG loved Damnation, Midship, and Zealot.

Not to mention the Elite fan community, which honestly there are people who have dedicated time our of their days/weeks to for as long as Eight Years to. Eight. Think about how old you were Eight years ago. I was 15, in grade 10. I hadn’t even moved away from the city I was living in yet (which I did at 16), I still lived with my mom. That was forever ago. But still. Eight Years of peoples’ lives, LITERALLY just being excluded entirely from the game.

Just to put things into perspective for you, try to imagine something you care about, REALLY care about, just not being there anymore. Like you getting into a bad argument with a life-long friend, and them just deciding to excommunicate you. Or heck, if Halo is something you love, imagine if they just said “Halo 4 is cancelled, 343i is shutting down, this is the end of the franchise.”

THAT is how alot of the long-time Elite fans feel about the way the Elites are being handled in Halo 4.

> You’re point?

You’d have to be half brain dead to not get the point. Why even ask this?

The point is there should be at least one Covenant map, even if the Covenant aren’t the main enemy and we wont be in many or any of their facilities, they are still a big part of Halo and add variety to the universe being as such. The game will be phenomenal no matter what, but still, without at least one Covenant map, there will be a lacking feeling.

I agree it’s pathetic and there should be more covenant maps maybe I would even be happier if it was just 1 solid covenant map rather than a blend between the two themes. But at least you only have to wait till December to get your first helping of purple love.

Nice try, but Wreckage is a crashed UNSC ship, on Requiem. Not a crashed Covenant ship. In fact I’m fairly certain it’s supposed to be the wreckage of the Forward Unto Dawn.

> Nice try, but Wreckage is a crashed UNSC ship, on Requiem. Not a crashed Covenant ship.

You sure??

Have a look at the concept art.

> Witness the chaos of a clash of civilizations in Wreckage, with its blend of claustrophobic spaces and dangerous exposures

this is all I could find on wreckage clearly just stating a clash of two civilizations the art then shows that lovely hexagonal purple texture.

No my point is why bother with something so trivial?
A lacking feeling? I don’t know about you but I don’t care about the map pallets as long as they play well. I’m not looking at the scenery in multiplayer.
Maybe you’re half brain dead and can’t understand that?

Mm, it’s hard to tell, even if it is a crashed Covie ship, that makes the map no more Covie than the crashed Phantom made Sandtrap, or the crashed Albatross made Relic. The map is Forerunner, with some wreckage that will vaguely resemble the tech of whatever crashed.

Well I don’t know about you, but loading up maps on your own, and exploring the cool looking stuff on them is something widely considered a traditional Halo thing to do. Not having the added variety of a Covenant map to explore really takes the exploration factor down.

And of course there’s also the Elite community, who has nothing to take screenshots on, or build gathering maps on etc.

Yeah I am kind of upset about this, but you win some you lose some.

Again hard to say from just the concept art, for all we know it may take place entirely in the ship with holes in it to see the forerunner world. Again I agree with you that there should be more… I’m still hoping for a free covenant forge world haha

There are no elites in MM so you have nothing to worry about do you?

Whats the point in even putting effort into the look of a map if nobody cares?

I tend to look at details of maps all the time whenever I play, it doesn’t matter how many times I’ve played the map before either, it doesn’t affect my playing because I don’t look at the map when there are enemies near by. All I’m saying is people do look at the map.

Themes are important, everything in a game needs to reflect the games themes, and something like multiplayer maps need variety because people do care. Would you be find if 343 gave us the same crap that Halo Reach gave us? Grey Forge maps? So long as they were designed well?

If everyone thought like you than I don’t think we’d even have good sceneries in the back ground.

Exactly my point. 343i is taking a massive -Yoink- on an entire community of fans. Then expecting those fans to grab a spoon and start gobbling it up.

I personally, find it offensive, and am insulted by the way 343i handled it. Not having any Covenant-themed maps just topped the cake.

If it wasn’t for the fact that in every other respect, Halo 4 looks like an awesome game, I wouldn’t even buy it. And if it DOES flop like Reach, I’m not even going to look into Halo 5. The only reason 343i is getting this one chance with me is because being new developers, they could make Halo a good game again, like it was back on the original xbox.

Sadly space dinosaurs and there demigod floating chair aliens are not the main enemy in Halo 4, so I don’t think 343 will make a map that would be Covenant.

Maybe a remake of one that is now Forerunner or UNSC.

Also maybe Halo 5 and beyond they will have a bigger part. And have a Multi-player presence.
