Not a rant, just a question:

What is the point behind taking out/swapping playlists?

They’ve said they are trying putting different things in every week to see what the community likes/dislikes.

I can dig that, but why take things out completely? They could just mash all of the unpopular gametypes into a playlist or something.

So 343i can save money on car insurance switching to Geico.

this would be because if they did that they wouldnt be able to accurately gauge what people like, the voting system is the reason there. 3 people may have wanted to play KOTH but 4 people wanted to play Oddball, while the left over wanted to play CTF. it isnt possible to see how many people actually want to play each gametype unless they give it a unique playlist.

Can’t they gauge popularity while still offering all of the playlists?

you would think so.
but this way they can take an unpopular playlist off of the rotation with minimal outcry because its rotation was up.

> What is the point behind taking out/swapping playlists?

Their goal is to concentrate players into core playlists which they believe will benefit all players.

They rotate playlists to force players to play what they want. They thought Halo players would play anything they were presented with.

Instead of having Doubles, lone wolves, KOTH, Snipers and Griffball, they insist players want to play FFA throwback, Regicide, Team regicide, and dominion.

Its an example of how 343 does not care for what players want, only what they think will be best.

“You don’t know what you like, I know what you like.”
Is pretty much what they’re saying.

Yea but why have a rotation at all
McDonalds does seasonal stuff for profit but 343 already has our money, what’s the idea behind taking away content?

But why force people to play their idea of what works best? It’s not like leaving modes that don’t play as well in the list is going to kill them. I just don’t see any logic behind it.

Actually, it can. Just look at Reach, it was released with many gametypes, but eventually the game died (not as bad as H4 though) and some gametypes (such as my personal favourite Action Sack) were taken off the playlists altogether because of the lack in population. I guess rotating the playlist is an effort to keep people interested, or come back. I can personally tell you that i play less than i used to because Team Snipers is no longer in the rotation. When it does come back though, i’ll be on pretty much all day. Hope that answered your question.

In your case keeping it on would be better so they don’t take the drop in population from people who just want to play Team Snipers. I guess it’s just manipulation on their part to entice us with exclusivity, but rotating playlists doesn’t really seem to have any worthwhile benefit on their part. Also I don’t get how leaving a gametype killed Reach.

Even with all of the talk of finding out what players want or the seasonal aspect it isn’t new news at all that players just want options and variety. But I digress, since there’s no point in ranting haha.

I’m not so sure about that, i used to always play Team Snipers in Reach and eventually got bored of it, which is why i switched to Action Sack.(never ending excitement :D)
But your right, i would be on more if it was simply there. They also already have the seasonal aspect with Spartan Ops anyways. I also think it’s safe to say 343 hasn’t exactly done the best job maintaining Halo, but i won’t judge them until next year, when Christmas/New Years is over and people start getting back to work.

I don’t think I’ve ever played action sack as I never played reach, is it just an assortment of FFA types?

Well regardless as to how they’re handling the game I wouldn’t be as persistent wit with the question if it actually made any sense at all. I’m content with the game and I know somewhere down the line it’ll be finished, but 343 just seems like an enigma, not sure how they came to take the halo torch lol

Apparently 343i is a branch of Bungie or something like that, and the frachise was passed down to them or “inherited”. Also Action Sack was like a compilation of Custom Games in Matchmaking, played it in Halo 3 as well… Those were the days…

Welp guess they should have kept some of the Bungie producers lol…

WHAAAAAT a matchmaking playlist for custom games? That sounds so rad, hopefully they put that in H4.

I truly hope so, although i see myself as quite a competitive gamer, i just can’t stay away from the casual playlists lol. I guess i need to balance my competitiveness and my need to have fun.

Yea you can definitely balance the two. I’m relatively competitive and get salty when I go up against a team of DMR’rs in this game but I still try to have fun with it. After all it’s just a vidya haha.

I think the main reason could be that they are restricted by the powers that be on the number they can have so they have to rotate them as they are being tight on the purse strings it seems.

I mean why would they remove KOTH when it has commendations attached?

What do you mean number they can have though, like population in the playlists? I hope it’s not some huge nefarious scheme :O.

I think they removed KOTH playlist to make Crimson maps the only way to play KoTH and thus promote the new content, which gives them money. Sneaky and manipulative, but 343s gotta make dat money I guess.

I completely agree lol, it’s exactly what i thought when they got rid of KOTH. Bet they’ll release the pre-order skins as DLC as well (Gears of War style) to rake in that extra bit of $$$ XD
