Am I the only one who would rather play on the better-looking, original maps, or oh, I don’t know, the maps included in the map packs I paid for? Reach did this and it pissed me off. I don’t want to sit there being forced to choose between a bunch of maps made of grey squares and blocks. Each Infinity Slayer game is basically “Here, choose between grey block map 1, grey block map 1 as Slayer Pro, or grey block Map 2.”
Basically stuck playing Big Team Slayer to get any decent map choices.
Would it be that hard to make a separate playlist for the Lego-esque maps? Maybe we’ll actually get to play on the DLC maps we bought for a change.
No, I do not want forge maps removed. Nor do I think the aesthetic argument holds a lot of water. I’ve seen plenty of beautiful looking forge maps that incorporate the land, trees, rocks, and unique structures into them.
And quite frankly, even if they were completely untextured grey blocks, I’d still prefer them to maps like Complex. Gameplay is more important.
The Forge maps are built with competition in mind, while the maps created by 343i and other companies are made with aethetics in mind.
I would choose to play a well-made Forge map over a poorly-made “Real” map 9 times out of 10, and the single time I wouldn’t choose a Forge map would be if I was playing split-screen.
At least there is some color in these Forge pieces. In Reach it was nothing by gray. Plus, many Forge maps play pretty well, and as long as the map flows nice and doesn’t suck cough Complex cough then I’m okay with Forge maps.
I love most of the Forge maps (Scythe and Settler can die in hellfire) and would much rather play on those maps than broken ones like Complex. I got excited when I realized Confined was a take on Narrows in the Forge Island playlist (not a perfect translation but you could tell it was based on Narrows). Give me Simplex or Relay any day of the week.
You know, it wasn’t that long ago that people were begging for more Forge maps. Honestly, I think the ones they do have are great and play really well. I prefer them to most of the maps that shipped with Halo 4.
I just don’t like Onyx and simplex, too many angles to watch out for, I love some of the others though, basically as long as I’m not getting shot in 3 different directions I’m cool.

100 times this, Imo Scythe is the only bad forge map at the moment (at least in Infinity Slayer). Haven’t played too much of the new Forge Island playlist but I’d say the Narrows remake and Onyx could easily be implemented to 4v4 IS.
I actually like the Forge Island playlist and Forge maps in general, but I do have a slight beef with them: Except for one or two, they’re all arena-style maps, meaning that they’re all “center structure with more-or-less circular paths around them”.
As for DLC maps, I’d really love to play more of them. They come up only every so often in regular playlists (mostly IS and BTIS for me), and the Castle DLC playlist only has Castle maps, logically.
I too would like the forge maps to be taken out of the vanilla playlists. While I am a big fan of playing forge maps, I get a little frustrated with having a new map to master every so often. Usually the logic behind the map is a little different than 343’s or even Bungie’s usual fair.
It’s also really unfair to only have forge maps as an option in IS. Many of the maps on disc are already competent. I would also like to play them because they are aesthetically pleasing. The lego maps can only be enjoyed for so long.

This. That’s why forge maps NEED to stay in matchmaking
Possible solution. Instead of map packs in halo 5, they should just take whatever the most popular forge maps are in matchmaking at the time and give them a graphical rework to make them more aesthetically pleasing like the maps that came with the disc.
Then you will have balanced maps that don’t make me think iv’e gone colorblind.
As much as I love the forge maps I have to agree about the DLC. While it does seem a tad better these days as I get to play majestic maps every other day as opposed to once a week a full DLC playlist would make me and a LOT of people very happy. There doesn’t really seem to be any excuse to not make it happen after the castle DLC playlist goes away.
