…is not always a good thing.
I’m playing through “Two Betrayals” on Normal (no skulls) this morning, and there were at least three sections in which I died multiple times because combat forms had rocket launchers. Needless to say, I was raging by the second encounter/10th death.
The first half or so of the game is absolutely amazing. It’s exactly as remember it to be and better, since I now have an improved grasp on how Halo is “supposed to be played” (in contrast to other FPS’s of the time).
But as soon as the Flood showed up, things got a lot less fun. The first two missions weren’t bad, but then Bungie had the brilliant idea of handing out rocket launchers to enemies with no of sense self-preservation. What’s more, these enemies were usually paired up.
I didn’t remember that part at all.
I’m still glad I bought HCEA; but man, I wish I had a better memory.
Sometimes Nostalgia should be remembered and kept in memories and cherished. Trying to re-imagine Nostalgia in the Halo Series is always a fatal flaw.
It was 10 Years since the release of Combat Evolved and the game was a blast when I was 8 Years Old. I’ve changed over the 10 Years. I’ve changed how I play games, how I think about stories and overall how I see things.
Halo: Combat Evolved felt like a dream when I was 8 Years Old.
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary feel somewhat broken when I am 18 Years Old now.
Trying to relive Nostalgia can make or break a game. That is why I am heavily opposed to people suggesting ideas of implementing nostalgic elements from previous Halo Games into Halo 4. This kind of thinking, the “REMAKE EVERYTHING THAT IS OLD” ideology should not be the prime motive for the development of the game.
343 Industries are a Developer created by the Halo Fanbase, not an Independent Company like Bungie who didn’t know what Halo 3 or Reach were 10 Years Ago. I’m still waiting to see what 343 Industries can come up with Game Development wise.
Nostalgia is the reason why I hate the Magnum even more.
> Nostalgia is the reason why I hate the Magnum even more.
Mind you the two best Nostalgia Re-imaginings for me were the Halo 3: ODST Brute Plasma Rifle and the Halo: Reach Magnum.
The Magnum was not as strong as its CE Predecessor but that was because the CE Pistol was far too overpowered in Combat Evolved and it wouldn’t fit in with any of the future Halo Titles unless it was tweaked. The Reach Magnum is a beauty in Firefight, Multiplayer and Campaign.
The Anniversary Magnum can go die in a Pink Mist of Death. 3 Shots… Really? The Battle Rifle relied on 4 Shots to kill and the Battle Rifle was a burst weapon so it fired 12 Rounds. The DMR only required 5 Shots but both the Battle Rifle and the DMR are 4-5 Shot Weapons.
3-Shot Kill is too excessive.
Ahh yes… I loved Halo 1 more than any other halo campaign purely for the the missions up through Assault ont he control room. (the lack of flood is why I liked ODST and Reach so much)
Still, its a good game though.
All 3 sections on Two Betrayals with rocket launcher Flood are unbelievably easy.
Observe.
Frag the first rocket launcher Flood.
Shoot down the rocket launcher wielding human combat forms with plasma rifle, pistol, or plasma pistol from a safe position.
For pulse generator rl Flood, use the Banshee to splatter them or just throw a plasma grenade at the door and use a Shotgun.
For the tunnel rl Flood, just bypass them with the Banshee and trigger the loading point to remove them.
For all other rl Flood, just bypass them with the Ghost.

Assault on the Control Room was pretty ridiculous. It’s not difficult, but it’s so absurdly long! What’s more, it set the precedent for Halo 2’s copy/paste-style of level design (not everywhere, but often enough).
I really don’t think I’ll ever play through Halo 2 again.

Modular level design has been around almost as long as gaming it self(exaggeration). Most of the CE missions have sections copy and pasted. Pillar, Truth, Assault, 343, Two Betrayals, Keys, and the Maw.
So long as the game play is solid it can be tolerable. I still think Halo 2 had the worst game play from a campaign standpoint. That alone is why I won’t be playing through Halo 2 anytime soon.
I have to say that I am surprised at how much fun I’m still having with CE. The game play just feels so good.

I’ll not deny his method seems easier, but two things:
- He seems to skip one of the sections I had the most trouble on (long hallway with 2 elites and several flood, including 2 RL combat forms.
- The video keeps fading in an out, which may indicate he’s skipping/hiding something.
Also, he’s playing the PC version, which allows for easier aiming precision/grenade throwing.
I’ll be honest, I’m probably never going to play HCEA on Legendary. I don’t like getting frustrated while doing something that’s supposed to be fun.

The PC version has no aim assist at all. I find the console version, with controller, much easier to aim because of magnetism.
I always thought the mouse vs controller debate was over stated. It never really had an affect on my performance.
