During the past couple of days 1 update has made people VERY angry and made them say that it isn’t like Halo and that it’s like CoD …Which made this question ask itself, is nostalgia ruining sequels and new games? Are we saying that Halo 4 is bad simply because it’s too different from previous Halos? Are we saying that Halo 4 is bad simply because 1 thing in it is similar to a past game that we don’t like? Is Halo 4 being shut out simply because fans want a Halo 3 replica?
From what I see, yes, yes it is… Anyone claiming to have played Halo 4 and says it’s terrible ALWAYS brings up a past Halo or CoD.
A suggestion/solution: Don’t look at Halo 4 with your Halo standards, look at it with your gamer standards… Look at it like it’s a new game, like it’s the start of a new series…
But that’s near impossible cause we can’t forget Halo 3 or CoD while talking about it.
I will be buying Halo 4, and I like most of the changes (except for armor, its nasty) even though I would love to have it be a Halo game with EQUAL STARTS, but I have to say something.

But that isn’t nostalgia! If I liked Halo 3 because of It’s balanced Matchmaking starts and didn’t like Reach because It had loadouts I don’t go “OMG THIS GAME NEEDS TO BE A COMPLETE FULLY INTACT REMAKE OF HALO 3 OR I’M NOT PLAYING!!!”
I say to myself "I really wish they had everyone start with the same thing, It would be more balanced.
SO you sir are saying that If i wish that something I found fun (like balanced “everyone starts the same” starts) that means I’m blinded by nostalgia?
So If i go “I wish the BR sound from Halo 2 or 3 was on the BR instead of the sound it has now” I am apparently BLINDED FROM THE NOSTALGIA.
I fail to see how refering to something from a previous game that you see as something that would help gameplay is being completely blinded by nostalgia!
I like most of the new changes, which I stated in my Original Post but If I see something I don’t like I will point it out, that isn’t me being blinded by nostalgia, it’s me not liking what they are doing with certain things.

I’m not arguing the fact that Nostalgia can’t blind people, it definitely can, but people can not like things that are being put into halo 4 without being blinded by Nostalgia.
And I would like to ask you what you want people to think, you’ve said you want them to think of Halo 4 as a new game series, but will people actually do that?NO, people aren’t going to just go “Hey, lets forget everything good and everything bad about the halo series so we can’t make suggestions on what would be awesome to see come back from previous games!” You are asking people to not compare a game to IT’S OWN FRANCHISE, why would someone not compare the new game to it’s previous game? That is stupid.
It’s not that Nostalgia is immediately good for future games. It’s just that the older games of the Franchise had a better competitive side to gameplay, that’s why a lot of people refer to it.

Care to elaborate on HOW exactly you know past games are better in the competitive side?
Though I am a massive supporter of halo’s arena style, i long ago gave up my shackles of purist perception.
I met and grew close to many of my current best friends playing CE. I was an extremely serious Halo 2 player. But, things change and I do not think an arena shooter will survive in the current market.
That being said, Halo will make the changes it is making. It will make them as best it can. I think it is doing a great job. I agree with the OP.
Many of us do really feel very strongly connected to Halo, based on the original 3 halo games. However, i think we all do need to not think of the purist arena start off and just try to really enjoy this game. I bet the MM is going to be unbelievably fun, and the campaign might be the best one yet.(hard to beat the first time we all met the flood.) But, unless the gamers are willing to judge it as a new game and not as Halo 2 Anniversary(wouldn’t that be epic) it will ruin a game that could just as easily be viewed as one of the best additions to the Halo universe yet.
