So since Halo 3 I’ve been wondering about the events on Earth between today (2000’s onward) to the Human-Covenant Era of 2552. Yes there were the Rain forest wars and the Mars Campaign but those are just 2 events in a 500 year span and I wanted to know more. I have the old Halo encyclopedia and all it says about North America is:
“The United Republic of North America is a loose association of the nations of Canada and Mexico and the political remnants of the United States. The UNSC has many military bases and other facilities spread across the URNA, as the association with the former United Nations and its headquarters in New York City still ties the organization closely to this part of the world”
Whereas the “Commonwealth of Australia” is given actual lore as it was apparently stable and so was built up with military bases and tech industries and is home to ONI’s big secrets like something called “HIGHCOM Facility Brave-6”.
The wiki’s don’t really have much info either…
So I was wondering if any of the Halo lore / book experts can answer this question:
- What is/was the political situation of North America throughout this 500 year span (ie: whats Canada been up to and why is the USA now just “remnants”)?

I’m assuming your saying that the UNSC took control of the USA?
Some combination of civil war, international war, and soil degradation
Possible political, economic, or even ecological factors could’ve lead to the dissolution of the USA in the Haloverse. We really don’t have a lot of lore regarding the events leading up to the 26th century, so anything is possible really. I would love for us to get a novel or two eventually that covers stuff like the Rainforest Wars and touches upon what happened with the old world governments/nations before the UEG took over.

That would be a pretty cool book. It’d give them some more room for world building without adding too much new stuff (since its all around Earth and not “oh this colony that has always been around…”.
Most likely, a second American civil war occurred sometime. Who the combatants were is up to speculation.

We know for sure at least that Seattle still exists and that its apparently become a multi-mega-corp holding supercity (if the FOTUS armor is to be believe as canon and not ACTUALLY a joke poking at Shadowrun, but I like to think its accurate).

Welllllll we know that the Halo 4 version mentioned something about the “434 Readyness Lab” or something like that. Im pretty sure both Bungie and 343 Industries are still there in some form or another.
