Okay, so it’s another “Ship of Theseus” situation: Some parts are the same, some parts aren’t but since we don’t know how many and which ones, it’s not possible to tell how “new” the new engine exactly is.
I understand why most of you think a delay is necessary, but it’s just not going to happen no matter how much we ask. 343 probably already has a plan setup and I’m sure they have it under control.
Halo 5 is a similar… but different situation at the same time. Halo 5 was rushed out the doors with everything in general, while Infinite is only missing co-op campaign and forge, which does suck, but it’s not going to be filled with bugs and missing content. We just need to calm down for a second and be patient. 343 has learned their lesson from Halo 4 and 5.
Halo Infinite will launch without forge and co-op campaign and it will suck, but it won’t be the atrocious launch that Halo 5 was. So far, 343 has proven to us that they know what they’re doing.
There’s some sort of issue with management going on here. I truly feel bad for the employees. I have a suspicion that while this game has been in development for 6 years that it’s been scrapped and restarted several times in that period.
I think Microsoft has run out of patience and is forcing a release this year one way or the other and that it’s out of the hands of 343i.
Even though it won’t happen I think a delay is the best course of action. Core features missing at launch is going to aggravate casual players and hurt retention. They’ve been waiting 6 years, they expect this game to be in a complete state when it launches. Forge is possible to get away with because we’ve come to expect it at this point. Only bad thing about Forge missing is a severe hit to custom game availability. Campaign co-op missing is quite disastrous. Many people, myself included, always play through the campaign day one with friends. They really need to do a crunch, or higher an outside studio or something to cram this in the game before launch.
The other downside is that if these core features are missing, what else is missing? Are we going to be missing game types like SWAT and Infection day one? It’s happened before. We already know we’ll be missing weapons at launch like the magnum and the shotgun. It’s just a bad sign all around and I worry for this game.

>
> Who cares? You missed the moment.
It’s a poor analogy though and only disproves your point.
You don’t delay the movie when there is no popcorn.
Nor do you come out of a film and say “That was great/rubbish, but the popcorn was good”.
Nor does everybody have popcorn, because it isn’t needed to enjoy the film.
It’s nice to have, but isn’t essential to the movie. The same with Forge/Co Op as not being essential to the campaign.

Yep, pretty much. I will say, that from the different discussion I’ve heard and read from those content creators and the 343 employee spotlight, it sounds like there is far more net-new engine code and features than legacy code within Slipspace.
It’s tough though, because it’s mostly all second hand info without concrete details given. The context the info is presented in sounds like the devs only have to perform change-management on legacy code blocks pretty infrequently, which is where I’m getting my thoughts on that new/ legacy ratio.

That is barely even an argument.
“Go start a company, hire hundreds of employees, get a $500 million budget, and make a new halo!” See the problem with that argument?
As an indie dev, while I can only speak from my personal experience of making an indie game solo, they should still have it at launch. If they really wanted to I’m sure they could delay it again so this argument makes no sense as it’s not about them running out of money, it’s about them pushing a unfinished game out the door for Christmas sales.

While I can’t find the source, I believe I remember them saying that it was built from the ground up as a new engine instead of a blam engine upgrade.

If you say this, then bro you are not a dev at all no cap. any dev would know how crappy the best laid plans can turn out. how a simple feature can almost break you.
I get your point but don’t lie

Believe me I know great ideas and plans can turn out awful when you make them but they’re going to put it in anyway. It’s not like they’ve given up on adding it. That’s why they should delay it, so it’s there on launch. Making games is about solving problems, and a delay would give them enough time to solve said problems.

The idiot meter is off the scale due to this ridiculously poor decision to launch without a necessary game feature. This HAS to be in the game. Halo 5 all over again and it’s really destroyed they hype I had for this game. Day one was literally going to be a split-screen fiesta all day. So much for feeling like halo. Guess I’ll just play campaign by myself and have a friend watch or something. So screwed up.

Like the failure of halo 5 to launch without forge killed a lot of the custom game community. It’s these basics that attribute to the lacking success of games during their launches. It’s simply not good enough and is blatantly incompetent. Just because it doesn’t affect you doesn’t give you the right to be an inconsiderate -Yoink-.

The Majority of people play multiplayer and they will be able to enjoy split screen etc. It can’t be helped if it’s not ready. Get over it and either enjoy the game or choose not to play it. Endlessly commenting on here won’t change the facts. However, they haven’t delivered on what they promised for launch. That I agree with, But I can forgive it considering the past 2 years they have been in lockdown which has made things even harder for them.

Your analogy is poor too though. If you order a double cheese then Campaign would be one patty and Multiplayer would be another and the sauce, Onions, cheese, and salad would be all the attributed side modes for these two.

You’re wrong. Are you paying for multiplayer? No. The multiplayer is free fries and they try to upsell you on the drink with no refills (cosmetics/season pass). You can walk in and have as many fries as you want. You don’t have to buy a burger. The Campaign is the only food you’re ordering and it’s the only thing you’re paying for. The Campaign is the burger. It’s a double cheeseburger and we’re being given a single even though we paid for a double. We bought the double because we wanted two patties.
If you ordered a double cheeseburger and they said, “Well, you can have the single now, and then will bring you out the second patty a few minutes later, or would you just like us to wait until the entire burger is ready and give it to you all at once, meanwhile help yourselves to some fries,” which would you choose? You would choose eating the second patty separately? Really?
The analogy is perfect. The problem for you is that it is so ironclad that when you tried to argue the analogy that only when you realized that you lost did you give up and then retroactively claim the analogy was poor instead of arguing it was poor from the beginning.

> This is absolutely ridiculous. You’ve had 6 years to develop this game but you can’t have campaign co-op or forge at launch? What the hell is happening with this studio? This can’t be another Halo 5 situation 343, it just can’t be.
Nope, the game doesn’t need to be delayed again, if you won’t pay for the campaign, just wait until the next season, and you can pay for.
If 343 wanted to they could but I think they put this to
Microsoft and they were basically saying if it’s ready ship it out and fix it later type of deal and 343 kinda had no choice in the matter

Also being ‘free’ doesn’t criticism and Halo Infinite is not entirely free, if you mean ‘game pass’ then that is also not free because it’s not a free service.
I was talking about the re-inclusion of forge and Co-op. They won’t make us pay extra for those, since they are already supposed to be in the game and the game is a live service.

Like I said they were going to charge us double the price and proper F2P was not going to happen since the live service would have to be a paid online live service. They only recently stopped this from happening due to the recent complaints.
