Howdy 343. I’ve put 30 hours in Halo Infinite according to steam (less actual game time since I spend a lot of time looking at replays, waiting for friends to finish matches, and browsing the store), so here’s a big chunk of feedback that’ll probably get lost.
I’m a player that frequently monetizes in other F2P games, so this is from a perspective of a person that isn’t “butt hurt” about certain types of MTX.
Fracture: Tenrai Event
-
Event Challenges- Having only 7 challenges per week feels bad. As I understand it, there’s going to be 6 weeks to earn all 30 ranks. This means I have to absolutely bust my butt for four weeks, then log into the 5th week to finish it off. Now, I’m obviously gonna do it anyway because I’m loving the game so far, but this is a really steep ask for players. Personally, I think at the minimum you should add 3 more event challenges per week for events like these.
-
Free Pass Rewards - I think the handful of actual rewards are pretty decent, but the padding with challenge swaps and XP boosts is actually infuriating. Back to back ranks in which you don’t unlock anything feels terrible. “Oh man I finally completed these two event challenges in a single game. I can’t wait to see what I unlocked!.. Oh… A challenge swap and an XP booster…” Nevermind that there are FOUR sections in the event where you unlock three back-to-back-to-back Swaps/Boosts. This sucks: Please don’t do it for future Free Events.
-
Yoroi Core Colors - This is a simple one. Why on Earth does the Yoroi Core not start with the base color coatings that the other cores have? When I finally unlocked my event core and decided to start wearing it, I noticed that I looked exactly like every other player that unlocked that armor set. Then, upon looking at the rest of the free event, I noticed that I don’t even unlock color options for my new core. For the rest of the game I’m just supposed to look like garbage unless I buy a color bundle? Why?
Store
-
Pricing - As I mentioned above, I’m a player that very frequently monetizes in F2P games. When I started out I went ahead and purchased the Battle Pass (no level skipping) because I felt like it was a decent value for the cosmetics I’d be getting. However what isn’t a decent value is what you get in the store. These prices are through the roof and I’m finding it hard to pull the trigger on any of the bundles. They’re just too high for too little value. I’m no stranger to dropping $20 here and there for a collection of skins in F2P games, but when you’re telling me I gotta drop $15 for a sword and a handful of mediocre emblems? Nah. Slash the prices and give credits back to players who purchased them. I feel like more people will monetize in this game.
-
Why is Everything A Bundle? - Pretty straightforward question: Who told y’all how to make bundles? A bundle implies that I’m getting a bunch of items cheaper than it would be to purchase them individually. If I don’t have an option to purchase a color or an accessory on its own outside of a bundle, then these aren’t bundles. If I don’t want to pay for 4 crappy armor attachments and I only want the super cool stance, let me buy it individually. There have been times where I would have easily monetized to buy individual items from within a bundle, but I refused to buy the bundle because there was a bunch of trash I didn’t want.
Battle Pass
-
Free Pass - Now I haven’t actually played through the battle pass as a free player, but when you consider how slowly players make progress through it, having multiple ranks in which a free player gets absolutely no rewards is actual trash. I have friends who are free players that love the game, and the number of times I hear post match “Hey I leveled up finally, but I didn’t unlock anything. So that’s cool.” You’ve got a million random cosmetics you could easily throw in there. Why be so uptight? They certainly don’t feel inclined to monetize when the free pass keeps giving them the shaft.
-
Level Skips - This is absolutely the crappiest part of the whole system. You wanna know why? Because when I hit level 100 in my battle pass and I unlock these sick VFX, no one is going to be able to tell me apart from a player that opened their wallet and dropped $200 to instantly hit 100. This is the antithesis of what you claimed when you said there wasn’t going to be any ambiguity when seeing a player with specific cosmetic gear. If you have to play to get it, you can’t pay to get it (actually, no lol). It’s too late for this battle pass, but if you’re gonna keep this up for future battle passes, I don’t think I feel the need to monetize for the next one. What’s the point?
-
Progression - Alrighty, here’s where y’all need to make some fundamental changes. I completed my weekly ultimate two days ago and I have felt zero desire to jump into another game until next week. Making it so we get 50XP per match was a step in the right direction. On a daily basis there needs to be an incentive to play the game for bonus XP. Win 3 matches for 250 each day seems like a simple, painless start. As it stands, I glance at my battle pass and see that I need to play almost 20 matches back to back to get a single level. It actively discourages me from playing. While you’re at it, my match performance should give me some amount of bonus experience as well.
There’s my feedback. Halo Infinite is a really good game. It’s all the stuff outside of the core gameplay that’s causing me and my friends pain points.
