non english dubbing

Hi everyone, I’m starting this thread because of some translation mistakes I found on Halo Nightfall and Halo 5 Beta, every word must be as it was translated in past games (apart from Halo CE that has lots of mistakes of this kind in my language…) if you found something like this for your language or you want to add something for my language specify it with a reply, so that every language is wrote down on this only thread.

My language is italian:

Halo Nightfall mistakes:

WORD: Spartan:
EXAMPLE sentence: Master Chief is a Spartan
WRONG translation: Master Chief è uno Spartano
RIGHT translation: Master Chief è uno Spartan

Halo 5 beta mistakes:

WORD: Energy Sword:
EXAMPLE sentence: We have the Energy Sword / We have the Sword
WRONG translation: Abbiamo la Spada Energetica / Abbiamo la Spada
RIGHT translation: Abbiamo la Lama Energetica / Abbiamo la Lama

WORD: Power Weapon:
EXAMPLE sentence: Power Weapons on the field
WRONG translation: Armi Energetiche / Armi Potenti / Armi Potenziate in campo
RIGHT translation: Armi Speciali in campo

example of Halo CE wrong italian translation:

WORD: Pelican:
EXAMPLE sentence: the Pelican needs space to operate
WRONG translation: Il Pellicano ha bisogno di spazio per manovrare
RIGHT translation: Il Pelican ha bisogno di spazio per manovrare

extra wrong translation (this happens always in Halo CE and sometimes in Halo 2/3 - mostly 2)

WORD: Master Chief:
EXAMPLE sentence: the Master Chief will care about that
WRONG translation: se ne occuperà il Capo / il Boss / il Master Chief
RIGHT translation: se ne occuperà Master Chief

fun fact: Chief has the worst voice I ever heard in Halo CE italian XD

edit: adding my replies on the main thread:

REPLY1: also the italian dubber for the Arbiter changed, he sounds more like a nasty pirate than a strong proud Sangheili >_> it’s so bad dude XD

REPLY2: The point is another dude, “Energy Sword” has always been translated as “Lama Energetica” since Halo 2! It is VERY iconic for italian fans, and it is also cooler. Now, speaking about vocabulary, “Lama” in english is “Blade”, so it means that the guys who first translated Halo 2 purposely decided to “rename” the “Energy Sword” for the italian version so that it would sound cooler for us  it is absolutely not about dialect, I speak ordinary straight italian, and I can surely tell you that EVERY italian fan would HATE to hear “Spada Energetica”, it sounds weak…

Yeah dubbing seems to be a problem in Halo  there are some wrong translations and senseless dialogues in German too, very funny. Oh and fun fact: Arby loses his deep German voice in Halo 5 and gets voiced by Patrick Dempsey’s German voiceover, it’s sounds really ridiculous (like a teenager trying to sound honest)^^

I hope Halo 5 brings back the option to change your Xbox’s language to English to activate the English voiceover

Sorry if I’m horribly wrong here, but I’m just wondering: could the Lama vs. Spada thing be a dialect issue? For instance, I know that many Spanish speakers, depending on where they’re from (like autobús vs. guagua), using different words for the same thing. Neither of them are “wrong”, per se, just different.

I really hope this doesn’t come across as insulting or anything - totally not what I’m going for! You know 10,000% more Italian than I do: I just figured I’d throw that idea out.

Ah, I gotcha. The dubbing is being inconsistent with its own dubbing from previous games. Yeah, that’s a problem. I hope they stay consistent so our fellow fans of all languages can get the full experience.
