I can tell you right now that if thrusters aren’t a part of the Spartans abilities, so that players can protect themselves by being able to get out of the way of hazardous situations then you are making a huge mistake.
The first game was called Halo -Combat Evolved-! And i believe in that statement alone that anything which adds to halo’s development, be it combat or story should be kept and not discarded including the thruster system, clamber, stabilizers, dual wielding, sprint, book lore, weapons, ect. You dont just take something thats become so advanced just to wipe it and go back to your roots.
They can add it and then create playlists that dont involve the new mechanics for those players who dont prefer them. The future should be a sandbox were all of halos children can play and enjoy themselves.
I just hope it all works out in the end. I have very high hopes and strong feelings for future content in the Halo universe to come.
people lived fine without them in just about every mainline title. Hell, 5 was the only one that made them universal to all players. I am sure they will be fine if it was removed (i think its equipment like reach but its really not that big of deal)
I like thrusters too. Great for avoiding a grenade spray, getting out the of the way of a rocket splash, or ducking out from the sniper’s line.
It gave you an option to mix up / reverse a fire fight.
I still marvel at how the really good players use it.
no no no, press A to win mechanics dont belong in Halo, no sir
I swear I saw Chief hit a thruster type evade or something akin to it during the showcase gameplay demo. Could be wrong about that but there was a moment that he really seemed to jerk to the side more rapidly than I could attribute to regular strafing.
I’m personally not a fan of enhanced mobility on the whole, so the return of thrusters wouldn’t be my preference, but I’ve resigned myself to the fact that they’re likely to come back in some fashion or another. I do suspect 343i will try to tone them down in a pointless attempt to conciliate the pro/anti enhanced movement crowds, but I do think they’ll return.
I thought thrusters we’re cool but Halo was fine without them before. I wouldn’t mind them returning though.

Wish it was simply press A to win (or in my case, R.upper paddle).
Consistently find that I am beaten by those with better aim and/or manoeuvring (including use of thrusters).
And I love watching the good players strut their stuff.
What if they returned in a manner such as the grapple hook? Where it was like an on map pick up (providing that’s actually the case) where a play that picks it up only has like two thrusts before it depletes or something.
FYI, not the biggest fan of thrusters but the changed the dynamic of some fights. I’m indifferent to them. They could stay or go.
I liked thrusters but it doesn’t look like they will be in Infinite. I’m curious as to how common equipment will be in multiplayer, if grappling hooks are common they could quite easily do what thrusters did anyway.
The game is going to be Free to Play. I’d suggest giving it a shot at launch anyways. It literally won’t cost anything but time and hard drive space.
There’s so much more to Halo than thrusters. I wouldn’t recommend ignoring a game entirely based on that one feature. Besides, H5 was purpose built for Spartan abilities. The bullet magnetism, enemy AI, and other aspects were built around your ability to use thrusters and other abilities. If thrusters are removed, Infinite’s mechanics will likely compensate, making the experience similarly enjoyable to you.
The thrusters add an interesting element to gun fights. It’s very hard to compete at a high level with good accuracy with players using thrusters, crouching, jumping, and strafing effectively in a gun fight.
I’m not a fan of the ground pound though. I think spartan charging is easy enough to defeat with a counter melee.
I have to admit, I am pretty surprised 343I didn’t keep thrusters as a base ability. It was one of the things that the majority of old and new fans alike agreed on. Instead they decide to get rid of them and double down on the sprint animation yet again…

I think you’re talking about Sprint. That is a 100% press button to almost guarantee survive. Thrusters aren’t anywhere near as bad as the sprint animationin my opinion.
Thrust is one of those things that I think can be really appealing to both a spectator and player. Because Halo has a long TTK, surprising moments can be somewhat of a rarity. People can toss a sick nade or get a sweet noscope but you rarely see pistol/BR clips in the highlights.
Thrust gives a player the utility to surprise the opponent and potentially outmaneuver them. I wouldn’t be surprised if Halo 5 had the highest percentage of reversals among all Halo games.
If thrust is indeed gone, I hope the base movement speed is increased and the time it takes to shift momentum in a strafe is decreased.

I thought i saw this too. He either did a thruster to the right or he did a sprint/slide to the right at the scene where he goes for the second brute that come down in the ODST style pods.
From all the Halo 5 mechanics, I think thrusters were the most well received and it surprises me it is gone, at least for now. It is in my opinion the most successful advanced mechanic in Halo, providing variety in movement with endless combos and the gunfights had a little bit of more depth with the choice of where or when to use thrusters. For me it is a shame it not being in Infinite, but we have to wait for more information and see how Infinite is going to be.
Thrust was probably the one newly introduced mechanic in 5 I had zero issues with. I’ll live without it, but I wouldn’t mind if it returned.
please bring it back
I’m a long time player of the series. I prefer most of the mechanics added in Halo 5 with the exception being thrusters. I’m not sure how I feel about the grappling hook if it’s in multiplayer either. Fast paced movement has never been a core part of the Halo series. Sprinting and aiming are basic things that can be implemented without changing the core identity too much, but thrusters and grappling hooks basically convert this game in to a discount Titanfall. Methodical pvp is something the series has done a lot better than fast-paced reactionary gameplay.
If I could, I would ditch slide and clamber for thrusters. But either way is fine by me, Halo did well without thrusters.
Please tell me this is sarcasm.
