I can now say I am legitimately upset with the Master Chief Collection.
I was alright with a “broken” Match Making, as I have much more fun in Campaign and playing with friends – via System Link… LAN…
So this past Friday, my buddies and I got together to do some LAN, spent quite a bit of money to get the Xbox Ones, Master Chief collections and controllers…
Nope.
No LAN option.
After frustratingly trying to find an option to host a LAN game (which we could not find…)
We had to resort to trying to use Xbox Live, unfortunately… Which just caused even more frustrations, but that’s mostly on Microsoft’s part…
Still, It was hard JUST to connect to each other through Live and to make it worse, sometimes we would get disconnected after a game…
and then have to TRY to reconnect to each other again…
Also, not sure if this was a problem on our side, but we also tried to play the last Halo 3 level and the lag was unbearable.
343i, Where is the LAN option?! Why do I not see a System Link party option like in the 360 games??
I hope this is due to me and my friends overlooking something, but if it isn’t…
I am thoroughly disappointed. What was supposed to be a fun night with buddies turned into a very frustrating experience.
343i, This is Halo. Multiplayer in Halo: CE was all about having a System Link connection with friends… Why would you stray away from that when every FPS Halo prior to this collection has had the option?

I don’t get how they are doing the eSports tournaments without a LAN option. It’s gotta be there somewhere, right?
After doing a search on the subject on the Internet…
Apparently LAN is possible, but you STILL must connect to Xbox Live.
However, with our experience, it was evident that what we were doing wasn’t being done via LAN…
There still is no option to do so, unless inviting users through Xbox Live who are playing on the same network initiates LAN, but that doesn’t make entire sense.
Why would I have to have Xbox Gold just to do LAN?
And if that is even the case, why were we lagging and frequently disconnecting if it was being done via LAN and not Xbox Live?
Yea it is -Yoink- and makes no sense why the option was removed other than for them to avoid a little bit of work to port it over. It is one feature I dearly miss from the 360 and original xbox that the One lacks(well and good streaming as it stands streaming works about half the time which pisses me off as it’s why I got a one over the PS4 and the PS4 has better streaming. It was supposed to be a better all around device, but you cannot stream worth a crap wtf). I highly doubt MS will ever add LAN back either with everything just always being online. It’s hard to even find split-screen co-op games on the One for crying out loud and is one main reason I am getting Halo MCC soon(I have only found 3 others games on the One with split-screen and bought one that lied and showed 1-2 player local on the store but it’s only 2 player online).
I just get more and more upset as I try to figure this out… there is hardly much out there on the matter.
I wish 343i could give a direct answer on this, but that probably won’t happen since everyone’s all on about the damn Match Making.
All I wanted to do was play Halo with my friends… I feel so disappointed… and so mad that I spent such money on Xbox just for this… we could have just used 360s…

They might still be working on releasing system-link features to the public. The LAN tournaments probably had code-in-progress or something else that we are SUPPOSED TO HAVE but do not yet. They did say LAN will be included, just not right away (pre-MCC release…I think Frankie said that in an interview, I can’t remember)
Damn, I hope this will be re-introduced into the games. “Just as you remember it.” <- please do. A person in here brought a good point, why go eSport and competetive without a LAN (System link) option?

Source?
I lack Call of Duty, unfortunately I cannot go and see for myself.

I have both games, Ghosts launched without system link and it was added later, Advance Warfare launched with system link.
Yeah, I see… those games have the option right there in the open.
Thing is though, with the MCC, there is no obvious way of knowing if you’re doing LAN or doing a Xbox Live Session…
Because there is NO LAN option to be found.
And I have my suspicions we were doing a game over Xbox Live…
You MUST still be online and connected to XBL - This is an Xbox One constraint because of the way Xbox One profiles have been implemented- You don’t specifically select “LAN” to play a LAN game - If there are other Xbox Ones on the Local network, when you set up a game with them, it will be a p2p game over LAN, NOT XBL.- Unfortunately there is nowhere where it specifically stats that you are playing over LAN.- If you loose internet connection, it can still kick you from the LAN game - Again this is an Xbox One constraint connected to Xbox One profile system.
I played campaign for two days with a friend at my house, he had his Xbox and I had mine. Couldn’t find a system link option so we tried it online. We never experienced any type of lag at all. I think it knows when you are on the same network and uses the LAN.

Obviously, my previous post here acknowledges LAN on the MCC.
My main problem here is that there isn’t a sure way of knowing if you’re doing a LAN session, no option exists.
And for us we experienced quite a laggy run…
Many disconnections to boot as well. I don’t think that was a LAN session.
Next time we try this, we’re going to use Ethernet cords instead of wireless connecting.

Me and some friends tried to LAN last week with 4 Xbox ones and we experienced the same issues you had. We connected the Xbone’s over WIFI and the experience consisted of super laggy games, missing friends online, issues with joining lobbies, multiple crashes and restarts, and of course teams being split after a custom game.
However, later that night we eventually connected all four xbox’s with Ethernet cords to a WIFI router/extender, with that setup we were able to eliminate the Lag issues and crashes, but the splitting of teams still persisted. I’m not sure if it was running on pure LAN, but from my perspective I could notice some Host advantages when I hosted custom lobby.
Keep in mind, all of this was prior to the 3rd patch, so we’re going to try it again today POST patch with a Gigabit switch and we’ll see how it goes.
Online matchmaking is fun, but it’s no where close to the satisfaction you get from wrecking your buddies face to face. Good luck with your LAN Spartan, please report your experience afterwards.

Interesting. You give me hope, lol.
Question though…Did at least one profile per Xbox need a Gold Subscription? Or do they simply need to connect to the internet?
Say you have two xbox ones. Your xbox one and someone else’s. You invite some friends to play 4v4 team slayer. Maybe some people don’t have xbox one accounts. Can someone please explain the steps you’d take to setup 4v4 team slayer for this situation? … What are the steps? How does your xbox see the other xbox? etc.

Halo 3’s lag was incredibly frustrating. For player two the whole game is basically walking around, the second some enemies show up or it starts loading your teleporting everywhere. Sad to see.

So reffering to the first part of your explaination, I realize that you need to be logged into xbox live but do you require a gold membership to play lan or can you just use an account with a silver membership?
