no skill required

This game has little to do with skill anymore. Those of us still playing have most likely been playing for a while. Matches these days give a connecrion advantage to one team or the other. I either go 20-5 kills/deaths or the opposite. When the other team has this connection advantage, I can shoot them repeatedly and they seem to take no damage while they shoot me twice with a br and Im dead. Clearly they are not where I see them on my screen since they take seemingly no damage. So…connection advantage it must be. The opposite can be said when I have the connection advantage on my team. I feel invincible and we win easily. That is why we see so many lop sided games. That is my take on it.

I disagree, I rarely have connection issues.
Matches for me are very much dependent on the individual skill of players.

Then there is hope…
So, maybe it is my variably stable connection?

Quite possibly yeah, I definitely feel like that’s a lot likely answer.

I play MCC almost every day for hours and I’ve really hit any connection issues. Matches are pretty close most of the time too.
The only one sided matches I’ll see often are in Ranked due to the skill based population being entirely dependent on how many people of a relevant skill are in the playlist.

I mostly play BTB and almost every match is lopsided. I do agree nhowever that it is most likely variations in my personal connection that explain my performance. That makes the most sense.

I think it’s also because matchmaking tends to place lower skilled players on your team if you consistently play well.

Let me guess, you’re an American?

People who live outside the US and often have to play on US-servers definitely see the difference between playing on their own servers or playing on US-servers who are on a whole different continent.

My internet is fine, but when i have to play on US servers i need more shots to kill ppl and they need less shots to kill me. It’s definitely a significant factor and you are almost guaranteed to lose against someone your own skill or even someone slightly less skilled.

It also depends on the game, for instance Reach, 4 and 2A’-Yoink!- reg for the most part is very good but other games like CE with all hit reg issues like guns doing little damage plus spread on the magnum (which 343 should remove like in Hardcore Doubles) or Halo 2 and Halo 3 with their hit reg problems too there can be some varyed results.

This. I know not to expect the Japanese server to be brimming with players and I understand it will often be necessary to broaden the search to servers further afield to find a match, but frequently I find the system appears to immediately default to the US servers and I know the latency will be rough.

I think America based players sometimes take for granted that their experience reflects the experience of every other player worldwide, and if you have latency problems, you just need to buy better internet. “Works on my machine™.”

I know the matchmaking algorithm has been tweaked in the past. Perhaps it has more to do with player numbers affected by seasons and game sales than servers, but there have been times when I’ve at least been able to find matches on SEA or Australian servers. I wonder if anything can be done to refine it further.

I disagree, change your playstyle.

What exactly do you disagree with? Changing my playstyle will not change the fact that sometimes I have a good connection and sometimes I have a bad connection. Unless you mean I should change playstyle based on how good my connection seems to be? Play agressive when the connection is good and hide and camp when the connecton is bad?

Its a mixture:

Part of it is connection issues. Though I blame my own internet for my connection issues. I am 100% certain my internet company is lying to me about my speeds, but can’t get concrete proof and its my only actual option. =/ And those connection issues can really screw with your timing and shots. I tend to use Armor Lock a lot, and it actually requires some pretty precise timing to use just right. Time it right and you’re guaranteed to kill 90% of all sword users and melee attackers, time it wrong and you’re dead. If I’m having connection issues, those timings are impossible to get down.

The other issue is just how the game balances matchmaking. In order to keep a skill balance between teams, they often toss the better players onto teams that are actual garbage while pitting them against teams that have somewhat similar skill levels. More often than not I find myself getting 18-20 kills lately while the next best player on my team gets 9-10, and the other two are getting 1-5, maybe 6 kills if I’m lucky. Meanwhile the opposing team will only have a max of 15 kills, but their worst player will still have gotten 10-11 kills.

I agree, there are multiple issues. I would also say that each players experience is different so its difficult to compare. We are each subject to our individual internet connection.

I still stand by the title of this thread “no skill required” when talking about internet connection issues. When internet connection is bad there really is nothing you can do to overcome the delay it presents. If there is, please speak up. I would love to be able to adjust my “playstyle” to overcome this disadvantage.

I agree, I do reasonably well on European servers but on American it’s a mixed bag. Literally had a guy no sell an energy sword without blocking. No counter-melee

Exactly, bait your teammates harder when you know your shots arent doing any damage. No point in contesting fights that you’ll never win.

Turn off bad servers? This is a non-issue in the MCC.

I am American and only play on American servers. It is a huge issue for me. As soon as I can do something about my bad internet I will.

Yeah just turn off all servers above 50ms. Also hit registration has been super RNG since the S8 update. I went from consistent 4 shot kills with the BR to a consistent 5. Some games it’s as high as 8 and I actually have to make a conscience effort to scavenge for ammo because I’m constantly running out.
