Every gun shown was the new pistol, new shotgun, assault rifle, BR, sniper, rocket launcher. Thats literally the core UNSC arsenal right there that has been around every game. Though this time, no sign of the DMR? I consider that weapon part of the core arsenal now and I hope it wasn’t replaced so the Commando could replace it. I just hope nothing gets left behind.
DMR has always been irrelevant when paired in the same game as a BR. Reach never had a BR because the DMR was literally it’s replacement. And with 4, all of the main loadout weapons were practically just equals, including the carbine. With 5 the DMR was better but it was still in the Battle Rifles shadow. There is no reason for it to come back as all it does is muddies the sandbox. Plus I’m pretty sure the Commando is the replacement for the DMR and SMG in one.

Everyone has their preference. Not everyone chooses the BR in a fight. I pick the DMR if the match comes to long range fights as well. Same goes for the SMG. Has nothing to do with the logic in the game.

Pal I’m agreeing with you, people sure do have their preferences. I’ve always preferred to use the SMG in halo 3 to the assault rifle so I’m a bit gutted that’s gone. All I’m saying is they’re in the same weapon category, and they’ve chosen to get rid of the DMR for what absolutely is logic involving the games sandbox. If it makes you feel any better, we haven’t seen all the weapons just yet, and if it isn’t in the game, you’ve got 10 years of updates to bring it to you.
Well the Commando has a 3x zoom, just like the DMR. So I do strongly expect it is an effective replacement. The SMG and Saw are also at risk.
However, I also expect older weapons to be gradually added to Halo Infinite post launch.
I don’t count combining weapons into a single weapon “evolving the game’s sandbox”. I doubt there will be a REQ number of weapons like Halo 5, but enough. Just not so little because they scrimmed up weapons into a single type.

Never was a fan of the DMR in general so I’m glad it’s gone. It never felt like it separated itself enough from the BR.
I feel like the DMR didn’t really have a well defined place in the weapon sandbox. It was a bit better in some circumstances but with the BR being a fan favourite and being able to do everything the DMR can do…one had to go. I’d say the same applies to the SMG and AR.
Even if the DMR & SMG aren’t in the game at launch the game has a lengthy post launch support plan so it could easily be added in the future.
I’m sure the DMR will return. Was probably just left out of the MP overview trailer.
As much as I like the DMR aesthetically, good. The Halo sandbox had gotten incredibly bloated as of late, we don’t need 5 near identical precision weapons anymore than we need 4 near identical bullet hoses.
On a practical level 343 only has so much time and resources available to them to implement and balance weapons. You can’t expect new weapons while keeping everything that came before, that isn’t a realistic thing to expect.
Let some weapons go to give you some time to miss them.

The DMR was the best weapon to use in Halo 4 until the weapon tuning update a year later and even then it was still prominent in the sandbox.
Idk i liked the DMR. Halo 4’s DMR was the best one imo. The Commando sounds so weak. It feels like the Halo 2 Magnum of the sandbox.
I feel like the commando is replacing the DMR tbh. No pre release skins for the dmr have been dropped either so.

Excellent points. Halo 5’s sandbox was crowded with precision weapons but most of them had their own style which gave them a place as more of personal favourite then a necessity. I actually found the DMR to be the superior long range weapon in H5 and not something also suited for CQB like the magnum and BR.
The commando as seen in the trailers still seems a bit of a odd man out in PVP, wouldn’t see a reason to pick it up yet if I have a BR & AR. For campaign however it’s a delight to have a high ammo count headshot weapon combinable with something to drain shields and armour.
So I guess missing the DMR will mainly depend on how strong the BR will be, especially on those mid to long ranges for BTB.
I bet that if it is not there at the games launch, it will show up later in post launch as a “new” weapon. So I don’t think we should worry about this at the moment
