You literally have no idea that was a challenge. How many teammates were with him, enemies dead? What’s the point in picking up the ball if youre going to immediately die. People who pick up the ball without thinking lose games. It’s best to get a proper team setup as that’s where you get the big bunch of time. Getting 5 seconds and dying is not helpful.
Yup. At this point I’m not playing to “win games” I’m playing to complete whatever is on my challenge list, game mode be -Yoink!-. And I’m not playing this way because I want to, I’m playing this way because 343 is forcing my hand with this janky -Yoink!- progression system
I agree and I think this could be solved with challenges of winning matches or game modes. Or extra EXP to win the game + complete
Feels like people treat games as a second job now. I just like to play the way I want and whatever I unlock while doing so is just a bonus, not a main objective for me. Wish people would just let themselves enjoy the gameplay for what it is. You’d swear the way some people talk here, they enjoy unlocking cosmetics in games more than actually playing them lol
I definitely see this too, right there with you on the fight. At first I thought this was going to be a post about people just being idle, messing with settings, quitting out of games that are 3v4 or just griefing.
In some form it should be considered griefing to queue a big team battle and not act anywhere near the “team” part of it but to each their own play style. Sometimes the lone wolf can start the push if they don’t get melted by 3 guys or lose their 1v1s.
This is a solid take, we should like upvote and have this pinned or something.
Welcome to objective gametypes in games since the dawn of time.
Yeah I would like to see an XP system that just generally grants you points based on game performance; they already have the algorithms too. They implemented a score system based on feats, so just use that. Say you get 2000 score in a game; well, you get 200 XP then. That would also resolve the current sluggishness of the progression system.
Agreed, this is one of the most important issues that need to be fixed.
This right here is why you can easily win objective game times with a team K/D as low or lower than -2x. If the other team won’t go for the objectives, it doesn’t matter how good you are, you’re probably going to win. And vice versa for losing if your team forgos them. It definitely needs a rework.
Before you could choose your gametypes though, so people playing the objective gametypes had more of a reason to go for the objectives. Since, you know, they choose to play that gametpye.
I agree that it does seem like teammates don’t play the objective in a lot of matches. With that said, in BTB that has been the nature of things for time eternal unless you are running with a group. It may be exacerbated now by the challenge system but there were always those folks who were trying to pad kd’s and just get sniper kills etc.
I do think and agree that games (and life) are about incentives. When an incentive is given it influences behavior. What 343 needs to think about is if the incentives they have put into play are manifesting the type of gaming atmosphere they are shooting for. I suspect that it isn’t. What I would like to see is progress based off of challenges as well as game performance and playing. It’s not a zero sum game. I would also like to see specific armor sets/features based on the type of player you are. For instance if you are a flag capturing pro you should be able to unlock a specific armor type/helmet etc. that lets people know that. If you are an outstanding driver then there should be a set of wheelman armor that indicates as much. I’m excited to see what comes down the pipe in the future but I think everyone agrees this system needs work.
IMO winning should just get you 100xp if playing a match only gets you 50xp. Easy fix.
Performance based XP would also solve this problem. Even when you lose a match, you are still granted a good amount of XP, if you played well.
Yeah honestly, performance-based XP would be nice, especially with the completion of Objectives in Objective-based modes being weighted heavily. They could even have that in addition to a minor win XP bonus
Maybe this could work?
Matches
- Each match gives 50 XP.
- Each winning match gives 100 XP.
- Winning 5 matches consecutively (doesn’t need to be in the same playlist) gives 150 XP.
Daily Challenges
- Daily challenges have changing requirements instead of only giving XP for playing matches, but the requirements are simple (“Play 5 matches of Oddball”, “Kill 10 enemies”, etc.).
- Daily challenges give 750 XP.
- A new daily challenge is given each day.
- Missed daily challenges can still be completed until the week ends, but they only give 250 XP.
- Daily challenges can be completed in Bot Bootcamp.
- Completing 7 daily challenges unlocks a small reward (a complex coating, a charm, an emblem or a backdrop).
Weekly Challenges
- Weekly challenges have the same requirements as current weekly challenges.
- A new weekly challenge is given each week.
- Weekly challenges give 1,500 XP.
- Missed weekly challenges can still be completed until the month ends, but they only give 500 XP.
- Weekly challenges can be completed in Bot Bootcamp.
- Completing 4 weekly challenges unlocks a large reward (an armor piece, a vehicle piece, a weapon piece or a stance).
Medals
- All medals give XP.
- The amount of XP given depends on the medal:
Medal XP
I got these from a Halo wiki, so I don’t know if it’s all of them (also, I tried to give medals that support objectives and help teammates more XP to encourage teamwork).

Service record will be very welcome as well
And that does exist to a degree. Halotracker can access match statistics but there isn’t much else.
Yeah, I’d like to be able to see my and others:
- Matches won/lost.
- Campaigns completed (and at what difficulties).
- Top 5-10 most used weapons/equipment/vehicles.
- Ranks reached.
- K/D.
- Medals earned (and the amount of medals earned).
Through a menu with tabs for each game (Halo 3, 4, 5, Reach, ODST, Infinite, etc.).
Actually, even just having that for Infinite’s stats would be nice.
The problem is people are going for challenges that 343 decided to make be the ONLY way to progress through the system… this in turn creates no incentive to play the game mode and instead seek out specific weapons and even quit if such a challenge is impossible on th current game and map type. ONtop of that the daily challenge, which has been made to be worth more with recent changes is no better than a participation trophey as you literally have to do nothing but sit through a full game to get it which further disincentivises winning… While I don’t think you should get nothing for playing the game all the way through you shouldn’t get nothing for doing the objectives and winning the game, right now winning and losing give you the same reward…
