No reason to win games

Agreed. At least they are working on a new progression system, so we will see in a couple months

Maybe im getting to old, but back in the day me and my friends use to play countless hours of halo 1 and 2 simply because it was fun. We didnt need a reqard system

Here I am just playing the game to have fun not obsessing over this kind of stuff. When did people stop playing games just to enjoy them?

I will add my voice to the choir; I used to like the challenge system because it seemed like the challenges were streamlined to the point where you would earn them simply for doing a good job playing the game.

Instead, these challenges force you into playstyles that deviate from the objective and frequently from your playstyle. While I believe that weapon-based challenges will help prevent weapon metas, the lack of performance and per-match XP only encourages players to pursue challenges instead of the actual objective.

For everybody who play just for the gameplay experience and not to unlock stuff, all the power to you. However, a lot of us consider grinding for the cosmetics we want as part of the experience, and when the system to do that doesn’t reward good performance, it’s incredibly frustrating.

I’m glad 343 has made this their top priority, because they’re going to be receiving a lot of feedback about how to fix this system.

OP, we said this was going to happen months ago after the first beta test and clearly 343 didn’t listen.

I am six hours into playing the multiplayer and honestly I am done. I have been playing Halo for nearly 20 years and I am done with INfinite already.

My mind was made after having a game about an hour ago where I got three double kills, a triple kill, and a killing frenzy and got NO XP for my merits. Nothing!

Instead, I have to get kills with a freaking chopper which I have played nearly 50 games now and never even ridden in one yet. Sorry charlie you can’t level until you get five kills with a chopper. F-that!

I only came here to see if anyone else felt the same as me and clearly people do. If 343 changes it I will come back.

BUT, I’m done with Infinite and I am going back to Halo 5 and MCC.

What Infinite has done is make me appreciate how great the movement was in H5. It really was the peak of the franchise, because Infinite has taken that away from us and it is a crying shame.

Halo Infinite multiplayer 5.5/10.

I am staying with MCC and 5, at the moment. I am very keen to get on to the campaign for Infinite, but this Battle Pass for Infinite has left me disappointed.

Give XP for playing objective and winning games and these low attention span zoomers might consider not just playing TDM in every game mode.

Exactly… H1/H2 didn’t have a reward system, and it was fantastic… but games are no longer designed that way. As much as I enjoy earning and unlocking things, in addition to playing my favourite game, it’s shifted the focus for most players, thus ruining the experience.

esports.

Plain and simple… what was thought to be a great idea -ā€œhey, lets turn gaming into a sport!ā€, changed the entire fabric of game design. Now it’s all about stats and k/d and tournaments and twitch, etc… Gaming can now be a legitimate career. The downside, is that that developers now cater to them instead of making games that are just fun to play.

The culmination of this is seen with Infinite’s challenges system. The game itself plays beautifully… but MP is absolutely broken because everyone is going after inane challenges to level up an even more broken ā€œbattlepassā€ (which is another recent game dev trend that deserves it’s own rant) instead of actually playing the objective. Which, again, is another sore spot, as everyone is being shoehorned into the same playlist.

I don’t know if it’s generational, societal, or what… but those of us that just like to game for gaming’s sake… we’re the minority.

I repeat, for those in the ivory tower of "I just play games for enjoying to play games. " You are arguing from a false dichotomy of you either play for fun or play for clout. (Kd, achievements, challenges, etc. )

It isn’t simply that people don’t want to ā€œjust play the gameā€, it’s that a huge feature of the game and past Halos, personalizing your look, is locked behind challenges solely. Not even playing and gaining experience naturally each match.

We didn’t ask to play Halo by chasing challenges, yet here we are if we want to look anything different than the default set of armor.

Please try to look at the other side for a moment, because I have been playing since Halo 1, ā€œgaming for gaming’s sakeā€ too, and there’s nothing wrong with wanting a little bit more than that.

Yep. People simply want to experience everything the game has to offer. That includes customization. What’s worse is that Halo has had 13 years of free customization. For a lot of (not-so) newer players, this is a default feature and seen as a genuine improvement over CE & 2. Heck even 2 let us play as Elites.

Now players can’t even do something as simple as change their color or make an emblem. People are mad be cause 343 made and objectively worse cosmetic system and are charging them for it.

Well, I’m sure they’ll fix it. I’m happy with my Funko coating tho.

Having challenges that work against team cohesion and the game objective is one of the biggest problems with Destiny 2’s PvP. Why would people try to capture zones when all the rewards they are pushing for are about getting kills?

This might just be my ethic as a more experienced player, but I always play to win. If I’ve got a challenge to complete I’ll look for advantages where I can finish it, but the game comes first 95% of the time. The other 5% is usually someone royally pissed me off in quick play and I troll the crap out of them until the end of the match.

Quite a few challenges are to win matches. Also people not playing objective and only going for kills has been a thing since the dawn of time

Remember when we played games to have fun? Not to progress on a battle pass or something of the sort?

So I just had a match which we lost, very likely due to one guy very clearly not going for the oddball, but instead trying very hard to kill somebody with the mauler. I even saw him kill the enemy carrier but instead of picking it up, stood there with the mauler drawn, waiting to kill the next enemy who showed up.

This is officially my biggest problem with this game.

If you want to just have fun without helping your team… Then there should be a FFA playlist where you can do whatever you want without negatively affecting the other people on your team. It’s as simple as that. The idea behind team games is… playing as a team.

Do that in custom games. Get a group of friends and explore the map as much as you like. Don’t waste other peoples free time by forcing them into a 3v4 situation just so you can explore the map while they are trying to play a match.

I wish this were true. Out of all of my weekly challenges only 1 of them was to win a match, and that’s while I was using challenge swaps hoping to get ā€œwin a matchā€ challenges.

I’m glad to see more likeminded people going for this topic. I’ve mentioned before on previous posts, they need to just replace the entire challenge-based progression system with the one from MCC. This new one doesn’t work with this style of game, and is detrimental to its overall longevity.
