This is exactly what I’ve been seeing, and to be honest, I’ve even started doing it too in some matches because of how rare some of the opportunities to finish a challenge are.
This challenge system is completely broken and encourages people to do all kinds of things EXCEPT play the game properly. Match performance should always be rewarded higher than some obscure challenge that has no relation to the current games objective.
You need to injoy life more.
oh, i’m sorry that you and i have different expectations for games. and especially for a game franchise that has slowly been dying, and at this point on it’s last leg, only to spit in the face of the entire player base, despite the fact that we know it could do better and have been offering input that microsoft has shrugged of just for another penny in they’re pocket!

They need to implement a system similar to Halo Reach or Destiny 2. In Reach, you got credits (experience) to unlock further items and you got more based if you won as well.
Destiny 2 does the same with it’s Crucible, where you are rewarded, win or loss, with wins netting you more awards and valor.
Totally agree. Extremely boring to play a game where you know no matter how well/poorly you play, it doesn’t affect the XP or rewards you get. Why should I even do more than the bare minimum? Just makes me want to jump to a different game where I know good gameplay is rewarded.
What else, if anything, than money has gone through the minds of people who designed this system?
I’ve found myself becoming increasingly agitated with my teammates each game. After reading this I feel that I have a better understanding as to why. No one is playing to win, everyone is playing to complete challenges. So frustrating.

I want to know how everybody knew this progression system was bad except for the people that are actually making the game. All I did during oddball was try to get asalt rifle kills that was it I didn’t care about anything else it’s taking all the fun out of playing the actual game.
If they gave you armor pieces or new weapons skins and actual EXP when you play a match I think it would be more enjoyable.
I think I experienced this once when I was playing BTB CTF last night…dude (or dudette) on the opposite team was just standing there so I just threw a sticky at him. But at the same time when playing Ranked Oddball I had to stop what I was doing and go check on my kids so it could be that the actual player had to leave real quick and take care of an issue…or maybe not…who knows.
I once threw a Spike grenade and got someone.
For Reach specifically…you can’t compare single player rewards with multiplayer ones though. Every match gave you XP, and yes there were XP for single player too but that was negligible.
You got significantly more for cheesing single player than playing online.
Remember when you just play the game and enjoy it and wanted to win just to be competitive? Like back in the Halo 2 days, only progression back then was ranked levels and that was more than enough, now we have the arena filling that spot. Just enjoy the game and benefits come for sure later when it gets closer to full launch.
No reason to even start games! If a challange wants you to complete an Oddball game and the game you load into isn’t Oddball, why even start it? You might as well quit out and search again. And quit out of the next game too if again it isn’t Oddball. 
They locked decking out our Spartans the way we want behind this progression system though. So the Halo we used to play which allowed us to customize how we wanted to is replaced with forcing us to manipulate the progression system just to get the items we want to look the way we want.
That’s probably what they want tbh…
