How do you know that’s the reason?
Players in every game online will always quit and not play the objective. It’s nothing new.

This wouldn’t be an issue If they didn’t combine the damn playlists. Me, I don’t want to play objectives at all but get randoms who don’t play it. I wish I could play Slayer only so I could only worry about myself and my kills and not a stupid objective.
I’ve already noticed some griefing behavior going on in matches. Seriously, game is not even fully out yet and some of y’all have already started that sad behavior.
I totally agree. Im guilty of it. the challenge/progression System is so bad that i found myself freakin camping weapon spawns just to TRY and get kills with weapons i dont like using… and just ignoring the objective. After 10 hours of play i am only lvl 5. Then i got a bunch of really bad challenges. I just logged out…
I agree with the OP.
Especially when you have to pay $10 to unlock the only true progression available in the game. Players first priority is complete Season objectives first, then finish the Match objectives.
I, too, am guilty of doing this, and the reason why… even if we lose, I’ll still come out on top because I finished three objectives which is the only things that gives me progression or points.
I remember when EA Battlefront 2 pulled that stunt. This isn’t quite the same but damn it’s close.
I think it all depends on the person - I’ve been ignoring the lack luster challenges and focusing on winning. However I’m happy not to buy the battle pass or buy skins.
I do feel the challenges should be relevant to what you are playing.
Matchmaking challenges should be focused on the objective - slayer games on kills, CTF games protecting or scoring the flag…. Etc maybe they could be based on certain medals but only count in certain game types.
That’s the biggest flaw with the challenge based system. So many challenges demand that you play suboptimally.
The reason MCC’s weekly challenges work is because they aren’t so specific that they take your focus away from winning the game.
They are things like “win games in social/ranked”, “get spree medals”, “get multikills”, “get assists”, “get objective based medals”
Nothing demands a specific gametype, only a specific playlist. Nothing demands you go out of your way to use weapons you aren’t comfortable with, or ignore objectives to farm something. They are all just stuff you do while playing normally.
The game is 2d out. How about wait until the players has been got familar with gameplay, weapons, movement, game modes,…
Yup. Halo players have been using objective games to boost their K/D ever since it started to get tracked.
It’s frustrating that challenges are the only way to level up an already grueling Battle Pass system, I wish 343i addressed the progression issue sooner than they did,
it’ll probably take months for a solution to be considered and the game will suffer for it.
I remember playing the first flight and not getting XP after a match - I genuinely thought it was a bug so I reported it and attached clips and screenshots.
Naturally I was very surprised when they confirmed that it was by design.
Agreed. This system has to change, or I fear for the future of this game.
It’s just so frustrating because the community was very vocal about this during the flights. Ultimately though, they decided we were making a big deal out of nothing. Their response to it was:
“While we understand the community’s feedback around wanting a steady drip of match XP and more ways to earn XP for the Battle Pass, we are optimistic that the system available at launch will give players adequate means of continually having something to accomplish and a means to progress.”
And look, to an extent I get it. The community complains about a lot of stuff and they can’t cater to every single person’s dream version of the game. You can say the forums/Reddit aren’t indicative of the entire halo community, but when the users on those platforms are this united on something, maybe believe it’s not just us and there is a real problem.
I think these are all very relevant.
Last night I was in a situation where I needed to get 15 kills with the BR in order to get 250 XP. Where do I get the BR the easiest? In Ranked matches. So I had to go and play Ranked matches completely not focusing on the objectives, but I tried to get 15 kills as soon as I could. I did it in two matches, mind you, but still, those Ranked matches should focus on player skill, teamwork and winning. Instead, I probably dragged my team down by not focusing on the objectives but hunting enemy spartans.
And this is just one occurrence from the past days. I played 10+ hours now and I’m still only level 3, and I got only a nameplate background and a Challenge Swap, because I haven’t paid for the Premium Pass. This is extremely underwhelming. These challenges make you not enjoy the game because you’re forced to do something you wouldn’t otherwise. Or else you won’t get XP, progress and virtually any reward. This clearly upsets the game balance because players don’t focus on actually playing the game how they’d like to, which is ultimately bad for everyone.
Now, I should kill an enemy player with “the Gungoose’s rocket launcher”. Where do I even begin with that? Madness.
I’m currently stuck on Kill a Spartan with a shade turret, destroy a Ghost and Destroy a Brute copper… been the same for the last few days. So my only way to progress is to play a match for 100xp each time (well, until its play X amount of matches)
And just hope that I can get a turret or destroy a ghost or chopper… so far no joy.
I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. Only last night, I was speaking with my Halo party chat about this, among other things.
The way the system works is definitely flawed, and honestly I think what bothers me the most, outside of the armour cores limiting customisation, being forced into game modes that I don’t enjoy rather than being able to select the ones that I would like to play, the fact that a number of the new power weapons feel weak, and that the vehicle turn physics feel super clunky compared to literally any other Halo game… is that you don’t get experience each match, but rather you have to waste multiple matches and up to 30 minutes or more of your time and with people who aren’t taking the games seriously just to get a measly 100 - 300 xp. This is honestly pretty ridiculous in my eyes.
I personally like that exp rewards aren’t locked behind winning all of the time, but you should still be rewarded for that.
Because of the way the system works right now, everyone seems to prioritise doing their ‘’kill a Spartan with a certain weapon that may not even be on the map or game type that you are playing on‘’ challenges instead of actually trying to win, even to the point of sabotaging the game, so that they can finish their objectives. It’s a very bad system and I’m not sure how 343 didn’t notice these things during testing.
In CoD you’re rewarded for kills and match wins.
I know its been stated before, but this progression system really encourages people not helping the team win beacuse they have a certain challenge to complete which in turn frustrates other players who many have a “win x games” challenge
I’m so sick of grabbing the oddball and having my team RUN AWAY from me leaving me to fight the entire team because they need bulldog kills
